DESIGN
Die Idee bei der Entwicklung des TMA-1 war ein Design zu
kreieren, das einerseits das Sinnbild eines Kopfhörers verkör-
pert und andererseits als Tool für den Anwender funktioniert.
Der Designansatz bestand darin, so viel wie möglich an De-
sign wegzulassen und sich nur auf Details zu konzentrieren,
die notwendig sind, damit das Design technisch und visuell
funktioniert. Wir haben besonders auf die klare Verbindung
der einzelnen Elemente des Kopfhörers Wert gelegt. Diese
Verbindung lässt das Design als Ganzes, gleichen Ursprungs,
erscheinen, das jeden einzelnen Schritt im Design vorgibt. Kein
Nonsens und geradeaus.
WARUM TMA-1
Der Name TMA-1 ist dem Science-Fiction Film „2001: A Space
Odyssey“ von Stanley Kubrick entnommen. TMA-1 (Tycho Mag-
netic Anomaly-1) bezieht sich auf die scheinbar magnetische
Unregelmäßigkeit, die im Tychokrater auf der Mondoberfläche
von amerikanischen Astronauten gefunden wird. Ein schwar-
zer Monolith, der etwa 12 Meter unter der Mondoberfläche ver-
graben ist, verursacht die Anomalie.

Stellen Sie die Lautstärke niedrig ein bevor Sie die Kopfhörer

El interés principal a la hora de diseñar el TMA 1 ha sido desar-
rollar un modelo que, por una parte sea un icono dentro del
mundo de los auriculares y, por la otra, que funcione y parezca
una herramienta útil para el usuario. El enfoque adopatado
para este modelo ha sido el de un diseño con una línea lo más
limpia posible y que acentúe los detalles necesarios para hacer
que funcione desde el punto de vista técnico y visual. Hemos
diseñado unos auriculares que se centran en las relaciones
de cohesión entre sus diferentes elementos. Una relación que
hace que el diseño parezca un todo con un mismo ADN con-
trolando cada paso de este diseño. Directo y sin tonterías.
¿POR QUÉ TMA-1?
El nombre TMA-1 se ha tomado de la película de ciencia ficción
firmada por Stanley Kubrick ‘2001 Una odisea en el espacio’.
TMA-1 (Anomalía Ticomagnética-1) se refiere a una supuesta
irregularidad magnética descubierta por astronautas america-
nos en el cráter Tico, en la superficie de la luna. La causa de
esta anomalía es un monolito negro enterrado bajo la superfi-
cie lunar a 15 metros de profundidad.

PROTEJA SU OÍDO
Baje el volumen antes de colocarse los auriculares en los oí-
dos. No escuche a un volumen alto porque puede llevarle a

DESIGN
The main focus in developing the TMA-1 has been to produce
a design that on the one hand is an icon of headphones and
on the other hand works and looks like a tool for the user. This
approach involved stripping out as much as possible whilst
exaggerating the details that are necessary to make the de-
sign work both technically and visually. There is a central DNA
which controls and influences every aspect of the design en-
suring that the different elements of the headphones com-
bine perfectly to enhance the final product. No nonsense and
straight up.
WHY TMA-1?
The name TMA-1 is taken from Stanley Kubrick’s science fiction
movie ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. TMA-1 (Tycho Magnetic Anom-
aly-1) refers to the apparent magnetic irregularity found at the
Tycho crater on the Moon’s surface by American astronauts. A
black Monolith buried 40 feet under the lunar surface causes
the anomaly.

THE
HEADPHONES
In the background to the story in the book, an ancient and un-
seen alien race uses mechanisms with the appearance of large
crystal Monoliths to investigate worlds all across the galaxy
and, if possible, to encourage the development of intelligent
life. The monoliths are extremely long-lived and reliable ma-
chines and resist destructive testing beyond the theoretical
limits of material strength. We thought this name was fitting
for our rugged, all black DJ headphone.
TESTERS
A very important part of the TMA-1 development is the thor-
ough integration of DJs in testing and modifying the product.
This lead-user driven approach to development has given valu-

WEARING
THE
HEADPHONES
PROTECTING YOUR HEARING
Set the volume to low before you place the headphones on
your ears. Do not listen at high volume levels as it can lead to
permanent hearing loss. Do not increase the volume once a
comfortable level has been selected. Your ears will adapt as
you continue to listen and if you increase the volume level, you
may be causing damage to your ears without feeling discom-
fort.
ADJUSTING THE FIT OF THE HEADPHONES
Place the headphones and adjust the earcup to the required
fit.
INTERCHANGEABLE EARPADS
The earpads are interchangeable. For earpads exchange see
fig 02-04.

L’objectif principal dans le design du TMA-1 a étè de dévelop-
per un design qui serait, d’un côté, une icône des casques et
de l’autre côté, qui marcherait comme et aurait l’air d’un outil
pour l’utilisateur. L’approche de ce design à étè d’exclure tout
le superflu dans le design et de se focaliser sur l’éxagération
des détails nécessaires pour rendre le design plus technique et
visuel. Nous avons fabriqué en ce focalisant sur des relations
de cohésion entre les différents éléments des casques. Une re-
lation qui fait paraître le design comme un ensemble dont tous
les éléments du design seraient contrôlés par le même ADN.

POURQUOITMA-1
Le nom TMA-1 à étè pris du titre du film de Stanley Kubrick
‘2001, L’Odyssée De L’Espace’. TMA-1 ( de l’anglais Tycho Mag-
netic-Anomaly-1 ou en Français Tycho Anomalie-Magnétique)
correspond à l’apparente irrégularité magnétique découverte
au cratère Tycho sur la surface de la Lune par des astronautes
américains.

PROTÉGER SON AUDITION
Diminuez le volume avant de mettre les écouteurs dans vos
oreilles. N’écoutez pas à un niveau élevé de volume, cela peut

Lo scopo principale del design della TMA è quello di sviluppare
un’estetica che da una parte rappresenti un’icona nel mondo
delle cuffie e che dall’altra sia funzionale e pratico per l’utente.
Il design è focalizzato su forme pulite e sull’estremizzazione
dei dettagli necessari per un funzionale risultato tecnico ed es-
tetico. Centrale nel design è anche la relazione tra i diversi el-
ementi della cuffia. Una relazione che fa sembrare sia la stessa
DNA a controllare ogni movimento del design. Design pulito e
privo di inutilità.
PERCHÈ IL NOME TMA-1?
Il nome TMA-1 è stato preso dal film di fantascienza ‘2001:
Odissea nello spazio’ di Stanley Kubrick. TMA-1 (Tycho Mag-
netic Anomaly-1) si referisce all’apparente irregolarità mag-
netica trovata nel cratere Tycho sulla superficie della luna da
astronauti americani. L’irregolarità è causata da un monolite
nero interrato 40 metri sotto la superficie della luna.

PROTEGGERE L’UDITO
Metti il volume ad un livello basso prima di mettere gli auri-
colari all’interno delle orecchie. Non ascoltare a volumi alti in
quanto puó causare sordità permanente. Dopo aver trovato un
livello di volume confortabile non lo devi incrementare. Le tue
orecchie si adattano mentre tu ascolti e se incrementi il livello
di volume rischi di causare danni alle tue orecchie senza sentire
disagio.
