Recommended Best Pracce
The Building Regulaons 2010, Statutory Instrument Part
9, paragraph 42, imposes a requirement that tesng and
reporng of mechanical venlaon performance is
conducted in accordance with an approved procedure.
Compliance with this requirement by an assessed and
registered ‘Competent Person’ should follow a ‘Best
Pracce’ process and adopt air ow measurement,
Method A – The Uncondional Method – using a suitable
UKAS cered measuring instrument. Generically referred
to as a ‘Zero Pressure Air Flow Meter’ or ‘Powered Flow
Meter’.
Further informaon on this method is detailed in NHBC
Building Regulaons Guidance Note G272a 10/13 and
BSRIA ‘A Guide to Measuring air ow rates’ document
BG46/2015
Installaon with exible ducng
Where exible ducng is used the diameter must be
maintained with the minimum radius of a bend equal to the
diameter of the ducng. It is good venlaon pracce that
the ducng is extended to 90% of its possible length in
order to maintain the best possible airow. Ensure that
exible duct connecons are not over ghtened to the fan
outlet spigot. To maximise airow rigid ducng should be
used where possible. The fan and ducng should be
installed in accordance with the requirements of the
Domesc Venlaon Compliance Guide, part of the
Building Regulaons.
Fan adjustment—Timer
The fan with mer funcon switches on when the voltage
is supplied to the LT or L1 terminal via an external switch.
Aer the voltage to the LT or L1 terminal is disconnected
the fan connues to run for the set overrun period,
between 1 and 20 minutes. The mer overrun is factory
set to 15 mins, it is adjusted by turning the potenometer
(T) clockwise to increase and an-clockwise to decrease.
