Read the Operating Instructions carefully and completely
before operating the unit. Be sure to keep the Operating
Instructions for future reference. All warnings and cautions in
the Operating Instructions and on the unit should be strictly
followed, as well as the safety suggestions below.

Water and moisture -Do not use this unit near water,
such as near abathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry
tub, in awet basement, swimming pool, or the like.
Heat -Do not use this unit near sources of heat, including
heating vents, stoves, or other appliances that generate
heat.
It also should not be placed in temperatures less than 5°C
(41oF) or greater than 35°C (95°F).
Mounting surface -Place the unit on a flat, even
surface.

Ventilation -The unit should be situated with adequate
space around it so that proper heat ventilation is assured.
Allow 10 cm (4 in.) clearance from the rear and the top of
the unit and 5 cm (2 in.) from each side.
-Do not place the unit on a bed, rug, or similar surface
that may block the ventilation openings.
-Do not install the unit in abookcase, cabinet, or airtight
rack where ventilation may be impeded.
Objects and liquid entry -Take care that objects or
liquids do not get inside the unit through the ventilation
openings.
Carts and stands -When placed or mounted on a stand
or cart, the unit should be moved with care.
Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may
cause the unit or cart to overturn or fall.
Condensation -Moisture may form on the CD pickup
lens when:
-The unit is moved from acold spot to awarm spot
-The heating system has just been turned on
-The unit is used in avery humid room
-The unit is cooled by an air conditioner
When this unit has condensation inside, it may not
function normally. Should this occur, leave the unit for a
few hours, then try to operate again.
Wail or ceilina mounting -The unit should not be
mounted on a-wall or ceil;ng, unless specified in the
Operating Instructions.
Electric Power

Power sources -Use on batteries or AC house current,
as specified in the Operating Instructions and marked on
the unit.
AC power cord
-When disconnecting the AC power cord, pull it out by
the AC power plug. Do not pull the cord itself.
-Never handle the AC power plug with wet hands, as this
could result in fire or shock.
-Power cords should be firmly secured to avoid being
bent, pinched, or walked upon. Pay particular attention
to the cord from the unit to the power socket.
-Avoid overloading AC power plugs and extension cords
beyond their capacity, as this could result in fire or
shock.
When not in use -Urr~lua the AC Dower cord from the
AC power socket or re”mo;e all the”batteries if the unit will
not be used for several months or more. When the cord is
plugged in, asmall amount of current continues to flow to
the unit, even when the power is turned off.
Maintenance
Clean the unit only as recommended in the Operating
Instructions.
Damage Requiring Service
Have the units serviced by aqualified service technician if:
-The AC power cord or plug has been damaged
-Foreign objects or liquid have got inside the unit
-The unit has been exposed to rain or water
-The unit does not seem to operate normally
-The unit exhibits amarked change in performance
-The unit has been dropped, or the cabinet has been
damaged

Power Supply
FUNCTION BAIT
IMPORTANT
Make sure that FUNCTION is set to (!) STANDBY POWER/
TAPE before connecting the AC cord or inserting batteries.
Before connecting the AC cord (LH model only)
Check that the rated voltage shown on the
rear panel matches your local voltage. To
match your local voltage, switch the AC
VOLTAGE selector (AC 11O-120/220-240 V,
~jm;.fi= ;~21;-
switchable) in the battery compartment with AC VOLTAGE
ascrewdriver or similar tool.
Connect the AC cord as illustrated below.

CAUTION
Use only the supplied AC cord. Use with other cords may
result in the risk of fire.
Open the lid of the battery compartment on the rear and
insert eight RI 4(size C) batteries, not supplied, as illustrated
below. Then close the lid.
cBefore using on batteries, disconnect the AC cord from the
AC inlet. Battery power is cut off automatically when the
cord is connected.

The batteries need to be replaced when:
The OPE/BATT indicator becomes dim, the tape speed
slows down, volume decreases, or sound is distorted during
operation.
Notes on batteries
To avoid damage from leakage or explosion, observe the
following:
●Insert the batteries with the 0 and ~marks correctly
aligned.
●Do not mix different types of batteries or old batteries with
new ones.
●Never recharge the batteries, apply heat to them or take
them apart.
●Remove dead batteries.
If liquid leaks from the batteries, wipe thoroughly to remove.
Maintenance
To clean the cabinet
Use asoft cloth lightly moistened with mild detergent
solution. Do not use strong solvents such as qlcohol,
benzine or thinner.
To clean the heads and tape
paths
After every 10 hours of use,
clean the heads 0 and 0, the

Press OPEN mark to open the disc
compartment and place adisc with the
printed side up.
Press Wll PLAY/PAUSE to start play.
The track number is displayed.
“1” indicates that the 1st track is playing, and “O1”
indicates the 11th track. “1” and a flashing “o”
indicate the 21st, 31st ... 91st track.
Turn VOLUME and TONE to adjust the sound.

follows.
The REPEAT indicator flashes: Asingle track is played
repeatedly. Select atrack with 1+4 or M.
The REPEAT indicator lights up: All tracks are played
repeatedly.
NOTE
.Do not place more than one disc in the disc
compartment.
●Do not try to open the disc compartment during play.
●Do not touch the lens. Doing so may cause malfunctions.

Extend the FM antenna and AM antenna is inside the

FM MODE/OSC
-Sets the FM sound to stereo or monaural.
ST: Reception is stereo. During stereo reception, the FM
STEREO indicator lights up.
MONO: When an FM stereo broadcast contains noise, set
to MONO. Noise is reduced, although reception is
monaural.
-If ahigh-pitched sound is heard during recording from
AM, set this switch to another position.
NOTE
if the unit picks up noise from other electrical appliances
nearby, like aTV or fluorescent lights, move the unit away.
To turn off the unit, set FUNCTION to (!) STANDBY
POWER so that the OPE/BATT indicator goes out.
To listen with the headphones, connect headphones with
astereo mini plug to the Qjack.
If an erroneous display or malfunction occurs, disconnect
the AC cord and remove all the batteries to turn off the
display. Then turn the power back on.

Use Type I(normal) tapes only.

Cable de aiimentacion de CA
-Para desconectar el cable de alimentacion de CA, tire
de su enchufe. No tire nunca del propio cable.
-No tome nunca el cable de alimentacion de CA con Ias
manes humedas, ya que esto podria resultar en
incendios odescargas electrical.
-Los cables de alimentacion deberan asegurarse
firmemente para evitar que se doblen, queden pillados,
oalguien pueda pisarlos. Preste especial atencion al
cable que va de la unidad al tomacorriente.
-Evite sobrecargar Ios cables de alimentacion de CA yIos
cables prolongadores por encima de su capacidad, ya
que esto podria resultar en incendios odescargas
electrical.
Periodos sin utilization -Cuando no vaya a utilizar la
unidad durante varies meses, desenchufe el cable de

reducira, si bien la recepcion sera monoaural.
-Si se oye sonido de tono alto durante la grabacion de
AM, ponga este selector en la otra position.
NOTA
Si la unidad recoge el ruido de otros aparatos cercanos
tales como TV oIampara fluorescence, mueva la unidad
Iejos de ellos.
Para desconectar la alimentacion de la unidad, ponga
FUNCTION en OSTANDBY POWER de forma que se
apague OPE/BATT.
Para escuchar con auriculares
Conecte unos auriculares con miniclavija estereo ala
toma (1.
Si la pantalia no funciona bien, desconnecte el cable del
AC ytodas Ias pilas para apagar la pantalla. Entonces,
proceda aencender la pantalla nuevamente.
