PREFACE
This document is intended to assist the service technician in the operation, maintenance and
repair of the Akai device. Together with the User Reference Manual, this document provides a
complete description of the functionality and serviceability of the Device. Any comments or
suggestions you may have pertaining to the document are welcome and encouraged.

In addition to any purchase price that Akai may charge as consideration for Akai selling or
otherwise transferring this service manual (“Manual”) to you, if you are not a service and repair
facility (“Service Center”) authorized by Akai in writing to be an authorized Service Center, Akai
sells or transfers the Manual to you on the following terms and conditions:
Only Service Centers authorized by Akai in writing are authorized to perform service and repairs
covered by an Akai warranty (if any), and transfer of the Manual to you does not authorize you to

Regarding the Power Supply Fuse
CAUTION: The product under service may employ the use of a
replaceable fuse. Danger of fire or electrocution if fuse is incorrectly
replaced. Replace with only the same type or equivalent type
recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
Regarding the Internal Battery
CAUTION: The product under service may employ the use of a
internal battery. Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly
replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type
recommended by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries
according to the manufacturer's instruction.

Safety Instructions
Carefully read the applicable items of the operating instructions and these safety suggestions
before using this product. Use extra care to follow the warnings written on the product itself and in
the operating instructions. Keep the operating instructions and safety suggestions for reference in
the future.
1. Power Source. The product should only be connected to a power supply which is described
either in the operating instructions or in markings on the product.
2. Power Cord Protection. AC power supply cords should be placed such that no one is likely to
step on the cords and such that nothing will be placed on or against them.
3. Periods of Non-use. If the product is not used for any significant period of time, the product's
AC power supply cord should be unplugged from the AC outlet.
4. Foreign Objects and Liquids. Take care not to allow liquids to spill or objects to fall into any
openings of the product.
5. Water or Moisture. The product should not be used near any water or in moisture.
6. Heat. Do not place the product near heat sources such as stoves, heat registers, radiators or
other heat producing equipment.
7. Ventilation. When installing the product, make sure that the product has adequate
ventilation. Improperly ventilating the product may cause overheating, which may damage the
product.
8. Mounting. The product should only be used with a rack which the manufacturer
recommends. The combination of the product and rack should be moved carefully. Quick
movements, excessive force or uneven surfaces may overturn the combination which may
damage the product and rack combination.
9. Cleaning. The product should only be cleaned as the manufacturer recommends.
10. Service. The user should only attempt the limited service or upkeep specifically described in
the operating instructions for the user. For any other service required, the product should be
taken to an authorized service center as described in the operating instructions.
11. Damage to the Product. Qualified service personnel should service the unit in certain
situations including without limitation when:
a. Liquid has spilled or objects have fallen into the product,
b. The product is exposed to water or excessive moisture,
c. The AC power supply plug or cord is damaged,
d. The product shows an inappropriate change in performance or does not operate
normally, or
e. The enclosure of the product has been damaged.

Main Board Power Test(PCBA)
1Test using multimeter to measure the voltage according to the location shown in below figure.
2If all the value tested are same after round up then the main board power test is passed.

Part II
Functionality Test
Setting up
1Plug in the power and USB cable to the APC20.
2Connects the usb with the PC
3Press the power switch to power on the set before start the test program.
4Open the APC20 Test Application by double click or simply select using a mouse and press the
Enter button on the keyboard on the APC20 Test Program .10.exe as shown in the figure below.

5After the program have been loaded, it will pop up a selection window which you need to select
USB device as shown below. Select USB Audio Device for WinXP and APC40 for Win Vista

6After Selecting the USB device used, a main test window will show up as below.

APC20 TEST PROCEDURES

Button function test
1As shown in the figure below, press all the button in the are which are mark by yellow box.

2This part of test is to test the button functionality and once you press the button it will on the yellow
LED and at the test application the button press will be show in green. Below is a sample of all the
button are pressed and showing green.

Slider test
1Slides the fader show in the incated area to test its functionality.

2For the 9 vertical fader, push it to the top then push it down to the bottom to ensure it can reach
top and bottom side. When it does, the fader will show green to pass.
3Noted that when fader are at the top position, the current parameter are 127 and bottom is 0.
4As for the one and only horizontal slider, push it to the left most with the current parameter is 0 and
to the right most with the current parameter is 127.
Encoder test
1There are only one encoder to be tested.
2The encoder are the CUE LEVEL. This VR only need to turn it clockwise 360 deg but
you just need to turn it slowly to pass it.
3After this test, the display of the test application should be as below.

Part III
LED test
The main purpose of this test is to make sure all LED are ok and the color are correct.
Green LED test
1Press the Green LED? Button in the applcation by using the mouse.
2The LED on the indicated area will on. Make sure all the LED are on and the color or brightness
are even among each type of LED.

RED LED test
1Press the Green LED? Button in the applcation by using the mouse in the test application.
2The clip launch will all lite up in red with certain part of the other LED as shown below.

Dual LED test
1Passing the red by click on RED pass button then the 2 color LED will both lite up
as shown below:

2 Confirm that all same colored LED are even in color.

**Critical Point:
Make sure the LED:

3Make sure that all LED in the indicated are on and no missing as shown below.
4 After confirm that all LED have no problem, press the ALL LEDs? to complete the test
5 There will be a big PASS on the top right showing the set has pass all the test.
