Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch My Teamwork is Alcatel-Lucent’s complete browser-based
solution for conferencing and collaboration. This browser-based tool is enabled from any
telephone or Pocket PC at any location. This enables secure conferencing with anyone,
inside or outside the enterprise without the need for downloads or a virtual private
network (VPN). It provides multi-party conferencing using one or more of the following:

appliance.” You cannot install third-party software or use the command-line interface.

ACS incorporates media server capabilities for both VoIP (Voice over IP) and PSTN (T1
or E1) interfaces. In addition, ACS is an application server for several other
Alcatel-Lucent applications, providing VoIP and PSTN telephony as well as Instant
Messaging and Presence.
Note: Running a port scan (for example, Digital Defence) against an ACS server to
check that information is secure could cause logs to exceed capacity resulting in a
server crash.
Preventing unauthorized use
The following actions help to prevent unauthorized use of your system:
•Checking your CDRs (Call Detail Reports).
•Enabling fraud detection on your telephone service lines.
•Updating employee acounts. (for example: When employees leave, delete their
accounts.)
•Controlling the duration of access codes.
•Turning off “dial-out allowed.” (Only allow this for a limited number of people.)

End users may access these applications using any of a wide variety of standard web
browsers. (Refer to Appendix D for a list of supported browsers.) There is no need to install
software on end users’ desktops. The applications, as well as Alcatel-Lucent’s
administrative software, can also be re-branded for OEM distribution.
Note: Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch My Teamwork is intended to run over a high-
speed data connection. However, it is possible to use it over a dial-up connection with
the understanding that the user experience will be impacted by the connection speed.
On the first login to Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch My Teamwork, the browser must
load approximately 590 KBytes of data before the main contact window is fully

rendered and ready for use. Assuming a perfect telephone connection, allowing a 49.2
kbaud data rate, this will take approximately two minutes. (This quality connection is
rarely available, often resulting in a greater time to log in.)
Once logged in, and still assuming a very high quality connection, other (except
application/desktop sharing) operations should take only a few seconds longer than on a
high-speed connection. For application/desktop sharing, another 500 KByte ActiveX
control must be loaded, and after that, the data rate used by a sharing session can easily
exceed that of a dial-up connection.
In addition, OmniTouch ACS applications are extensible. OmniTouch ACS exposes the
same telephony and collaboration interfaces used to implement Alcatel-Lucent’s
applications to partners through XML and HTML URLs. You can also communicate
directly with OmniTouch ACS using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which is
OmniTouch ACS’s native call/session control protocol. Thus, Alcatel-Lucent partners
can provide their own customers (enterprises and service providers) with powerful,
customized and branded zero-footprint conferencing, telephony, and collaboration
applications. Alcatel-Lucent partners have used OmniTouch ACS’s flexible APIs to
develop converged application suites for PBXs, to add telephony/IM into portals, and to
deliver specialized conferencing solutions.

If you choose to buy your Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch My Teamwork server from a vendor
other than Alcatel-Lucent, you must select one of the following enterprise-class or small
business servers. These hardware servers have been tested for use with OmniTouch ACS,
Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch My Teamwork and AMDS, and A8628 Multimedia Instant
Conferencing (A8628 MMIC).

The hardware server you choose must support Red Hat Enterprise Server release 4.0 and
must adhere to the following minimum specifications as appropriate to the number of users
and ports purchased.
Important! Dell servers that use the PERC 6/i controller card require a firmware
update during the ACS/My Teamwork installation process.
Small and Medium Business
Use a small to medium business server for Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch My Teamwork
deployments that require up to 120 concurrent audio and data conferencing ports and
3,000 IM users.

Hardware setup
Although the exact hardware varies, all Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch My Teamwork
servers must have two Ethernet ports. The primary Ethernet port (eth0) is used to connect
the server to your network. The secondary port (eth1) is used for internal connections,
which vary according to your configuration.
If you are connecting your server to the PSTN, your server also includes a PSTN card
(TDM Network Interface Module 1 span 2 span 8) in one of your server’s PCI slots. The
PSTN card has an Ethernet port, and up to 8 trunk ports (T1 or E1).
A standard server configuration usually has two 72GB drives (that is, usually a RAID
configuration).

A one hour audio recording takes up approximately 27.5 MB. The space required for an
audio presentation recording will vary according to the size of the presentation.

Note: Recording requires approximately 8000 bytes/second
(480 kbytes/minute or 0.5 MB/minute). When you are recording a presentation with
audio, an insignificant amount of space is needed for the presentation because a history
of time stamps is recorded for each appearance of a slide. (A single copy of each slide
that was presented is made; no matter how many times the same slide appeared.)
Example:
For a Powerpoint presentation, each page requires between 65 and 75 kbytes/page. If the
Powerpoint presentation contained 10 pages, regardless of how many times each slide
appeared during the session, the presentation would consume between 650 and 750
kbytes. The audio consumption would be added to this amount to yield the total space
needed.

1Mount the server in the rack.

3Connect a keyboard, monitor, and mouse to the server.
You will only need these temporarily, to assign the server its initial IP address.
(Alternatively, you could perform this step using the server’s serial port, connected to a
computer running a terminal emulator (for example, HyperTerminal) application.

4Plug an Ethernet cable into the primary Ethernet port. Connect the other end of the cable
to your network.

5For PSTN servers:
a. Connect the crossover cable: Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet
port in the PSTN board. Usually, this is the rightmost port on the board.
Connect the other end of the cable to the secondary Ethernet port.
b. Connect T1/E1 or PRI cables to the trunk ports on the PSTN card.
Note: For a stack server, the PSTN board and secondary Ethernet are connected to
a backplane switch. A crossover cable is not used.

Purpose
This chapter discusses the network where your OmniTouch My Teamwork server resides.

Ethernet networks
OmniTouch ACS servers use two Ethernet networks:
•The primary (eth0) network is connected to your local LAN.
•The secondary (eth1) network is a private switched network used only by OmniTouch
ACS for communications internal to the OmniTouch ACS environment. No other
devices may be attached to this network. It is used for communication between a
server and its telephony card (in this case, the Ethernet port on the telephony card is
cabled directly to the secondary Ethernet port), or for communications within a stack
(see Chapter 6 Planning Your OmniTouch ACS Stack).
The primary (eth0) network is used for all communications between your ACS server and
your location’s LAN. Before installation, Alcatel-Lucent recommends that you go through
the following procedure for your LAN.

To verify your Ethernet port configuration
Decide where, in your network, you want to install the server. It is best to install
OmniTouch ACS on a dedicated Ethernet segment. OmniTouch ACS is usually deployed
with other web servers, behind a firewall, often in an enterprise’s DMZ.

1Verify your LAN’s Ethernet port configuration.
When you connect OmniTouch ACS to your LAN, the OmniTouch ACS’s Ethernet
port will attempt to auto-negotiate with your LAN’s Ethernet port to the highest bit
rate that they have in common. OmniTouch ACS software is capable of 10/100/1000
Mbit rates. Bandwidth considerations for the primary Ethernet interface are as follows:
•For PSTN-only servers or PSTN server stacks, a 100Mb interface is adequate.
•For VoIP-only servers:
A 100 Mb port will accommodate up to 300 simultaneous ports of voice conferencing.
For more than 300 ports per server, a 1Gb interface is required.
The Alcatel-Lucent software is certified for up to 400 ports of voice conferencing per
server, but when taking advantage of stacked systems, the actual number of VoIP
streams may be greater. For this reason, it is good to factor into the plan for headroom
when determining the amount of network bandwidth to provide. See additional
information in Appendix B.

2Determine your firewall configuration.
OmniTouch ACS does not provide firewall/port blocking. When configuring your
firewall, see Chapter 4, “Opening Ports in Your Firewall” for open ports required by the
server.

3Verify that your NAT configuration is compatible with SIP.
If you are using the Network Address Translation (NAT) protocol and you expect
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) devices or applications that are exterior to your
network to be communicating with OmniTouch ACS, there may be an issue when
using SIP, which OmniTouch ACS uses for all VoIP and IM signaling. Newer NAT
devices often list “SIP enabled” as a feature; it can be challenging to configure older
NAT devices to accommodate SIP.
