The screwed-down crown
The crown of the D15 Mk-1 GMT is specially designed to enhance the water
resistance and durability of your watch by screwing in tight to the case when not in
use for winding or setting the time. To open, turn the crown anti-clockwise approx-
imately two and a half full rotations until there is a click and the crown pops out.
It is now in the winding position (position 2; see gure 1, page 18). Once opened,
the crown can be used to wind the watch and set the time as detailed below.
To close, start from the winding position (position 2; see gure 1, page 18). Push
the crown in to the case until it stops; while holding it pushed in, turn the crown
clockwise approximately two and half full rotations until nger tight. Do not over
tighten. The crown should only be opened to wind the watch or set the time;
otherwise the crown should always be maintained in the fully closed screwed
down position.
Note: do not open the crown when in a wet or humid environment, or while under water.
The water resistance rating is only ensured when the crown is in its fully closed and
screwed down position (position 1).
Winding
Your timepiece is powered by a self-winding movement. A weighted rotor on
the back of the movement stores the energy generated by the actions of your wrist
in the movement’s mainspring. Approximately 12 hours of wear will fully wind
the spring, though this will vary depending on your level of activity. The fully
wound watch has a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and will continue
to run for up to this duration when not worn.
If the power reserve is fully depleted and the watch stops, it can be reactivated
by hand with approximately 30 clockwise turns of the crown from the winding
position (position 2; see gure 1, page 18). This serves to restart the mechanism;
however, note that the number of turns required to fully wind the watch varies
by the function of the calibre. Please also note that the crown will not lock while
winding, even when the watch is fully wound. The watch can be manually wound
by turning the crown clockwise while it is in the winding position, but should not
be worn while doing so because the winding action in this position may put uneven
pressure on the stem and could damage it over time.
Reading the time
The D15 Mk-1 GMT displays time for two time zones, as well as date and time
of day or night for the ‘local’ time zone (see hand identication on page 19,
gure 2). Local time is read on the 12 hour indices with the local hour hand
and minute hand. The date and time of day or night are also shown for local time via
the date hand at 6 o’clock and the day/night hand at 9 o’clock. A second time
zone, or ‘home’ time, is displayed by the 24hr hand, with minutes read on
the minute hand. Note that the second time zone shares the minute hand with
the local time zone, requiring time zones displayed to be multiples of full hours
apart. The 24hr hand cannot display a time zone that is at a half or quarter-hour
deviation.
Setting your watch
The AM-4705 is equipped with hacking seconds, which means the second hand
halts when the crown is in the setting position (position 3; see gure 1, page 18).
This allows the time to be set accurately down to the second.
Fully setting the time and date
When fully setting the time and date, note that rst the local and home time
zone clocks are set to the same time zone, which should be the desired time zone
for home time. The local clock is then set to the appropriate local time zone using
the forward or reverse time zone correction pushers as detailed below.
To fully set the time, begin by rst opening and then pulling the crown out to
the setting position (position 3; see gure 1, page 18). Then, by turning the crown
anticlockwise, move the hands forwards (clockwise) to position the 24hr hand
(see hand 4, gure 2, page 19) at 02:00 on the 24hr scale (read on the outer
edge of the dial). Press the forward time zone correction pusher (see pusher A,
gure 2, page 19) until the date indication moves forward by one day, shown by
the date hand at 6 o’clock (see hand 6, gure 2, page 19). The watch will now
be indicating midnight for local time. Press the forward time zone correction
pusher twice more to position the local hour hand at 02:00 on the 12hr scale.
Now both the local time zone and second time zone will be indicating 02:00.
Press the date correction button (see button C, gure 2, page 19) until the desired
date is shown by the date hand. Then, by turning the crown anticlockwise (still
in the setting position), move the hands forwards (clockwise) rst to a few minutes
