Overview
TheAT-8400 Seriesswitch is a modular unit that simplifies the task of
buildingand maintaining aFast Ethernet orGigabit Ethernet network.
SeeFigure 1. With the AT-8400Series switch, youcan buildan Ethernet
network customized to the unique needsof your networkenvironment.

Youcanconnectyourworkgrouphubs andotherswitchestothechassis
sothat the AT-8400 Seriesswitch functions asthe focal point of your
network. Or you can connect workstations, servers, printers, androuters
directlytothechassissothateachdevicehassoleuseofadedicatedlink
to the network.
Below are the cards that are available for the AT-8400 Series switch.
AT-8411TX linecard — Fast Ethernet witheight 10/100Base-TX
twisted pair ports
AT-8412/SCFX linecard — Fast Ethernet with four fiber optic
ports
AT-8412/MTFX line card — Fast Ethernet with four fiberoptic
ports
AT-8413 GB/T line card — Gigabit Ethernet with onetwisted pair
port and one expansion slot for an optional GBIC module

Chassis Slots 1 through 12
Slots1through12accommodatetheFastEthernetandGigabitEthernet
line cards. When installed, the cardsare interconnected viathe chassis
backplaneand function asone logicalEthernet switch. Ethernet line
cards can be installed in any of theslotsand in any order.
The chassis can accommodate a variety of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit
Ethernetlinecards.Chapter2containsdescriptionsofthelinecardsthat
were available when this manualwas released.
