of the heat pump controller
The heat pump installation must be installed
and commissioned by a competent person in
accordance with the current legislation and
standards and the instruction manual.
The use of a heat pump plant must be notified to
your local energy supply company.
The heat pump must not be inclined by more
than 45° during transportation and installation.
Be aware when transporting the device: the heat
pump is not attached to the transport pallet!
The components and pipework of the
refrigeration circle must on no account be used
for lifting purposes.
For safety reasons, the power supply of the heat
pump and of the controller must never be shut
off even outside the heating period.
Operation of the heat pump as heat source is
admissible only as outside device with outside
air. The air-carrying sides must never be reduced
or obstructed.
Before opening the device, all electric circuits
must be switched off.
Works on the refrigeration system must be
carried out only by competent persons. They
must be skilled and experienced in the dangers
of handling the refrigerating agent.
After purging the evaporator with a chemical
purifying agent, the neutralization of remainders
as well as intense water rinsing is absolutely
necessary.
Never use scouring, acidic or corrosive agents for
cleaning the device surface.


General
Operating range
The heat pump is designed exclusively for the heating of
heating circuit water and sanitary hot water. Considering
the application limits (see technical details), the heat pump
can be installed on new or existing heating installations.
The heat pump must be installed only outside.
The integration in ventilation systems or the use
of the cooled down air for refrigeration purposes
is not admissible.
Functioning of the air / water heat pump
The heat pump converts the low temperature heat of the
ambient air to a higher temperature. The fan on the heat
pump pulls in the air through the air-duct and conducts
it to the evaporator. The evaporator contains the liquid
agent which boils and vaporizes at low temperatures and
low pressure. The vaporizing heat is transferred from the
air which is cooled. The air is discharged to outside. The
compressor sucks in the vaporized agent and compresses
it to achieve a higher pressure. The compressed gaseous
agent enters the condenser, where it condenses at high
pressure and high temperature. The condensation heat
is transferred to the heating circuit water with resultant
increase in temperature.
The energy transmitted to the heating circuit water
corresponds to the energy transmitted from the ambient
air plus the small amount of electric energy for the
compressor.
Energy-saving use of the heat pump heating
installation
By choosing a heat pump heating installation, you have
acknowledged the need for environmental protection
by lower emissions and less consumption of energy. To
ensure your new heating system works as efficiently as
possible, please note the following:
The heat pump heating installation must be
correctly sized and installed.
Avoid unnecessarily high flow temperatures.
The lower the flow temperature at the heating
circuit water side is, the more efficiently the heat
pump works.
The controller must be set correctly!.
Preferably open the window totally to renew the
air. Compared to constantly pivot-hung windows
opening outward, this kind of ventilation reduces
the energy consumption and saves money!.
Scope of supply
Scope of supply heat pump basic device
• Compact device with fully hermetic compressor and
all relevant safety components for refrigeration circuit
monitoring, without a soft starter and without control-
ler.
•1 m tube for condensate drain, connected to the heat
pump side.
•Electric switch box with power contactor, protective
system IP44.
•Sensors inside the device for sensing the hot gas tem-
perature and heating-circuit water flow and return tem-
perature.
•Electric heating element 6kW for supporting the hea-
ting and the sanitary hot water production during sing-
le source operation.
•Electronic soft start for limiting of breakaway starting
current.
Accessories necessary for operation
(Only original accessories made by manufacturer)
The heat pump is a functioning unit only combined with the
heat pump controller and the control- and sensor-line.
The heat pump controller controls and monitors the heat
pump and serves as heating controller at same time. The
control- and sensor-line is the connection between the
heat pump and the controller.
Our accessory range offers control- and sensor-lines of
different length, suitable for the installation conditions of
your heat pump.

General
To avoid transportation damage, the heat pump should be
transported in packed condition on a wooden pallet to the
final destination with a lift truck or a pallet truck,
Attention when transporting the device: the heat
pump is not secured to the transportation pal-
let!
To avoid damage, the heat pump must not be
inclined by more than 45° during the transpor-
tation.
Transport with tubes
The heat pump may be transported to the installation site
with two ¾” tubes. There are holes for this purpose in the
device frame.
The transport tubes are not supplied with the unit.
When selecting the tube material, consider the
weight of the heat pump.

Preparation
1) Open the quick-release screws on the operator side
(side with logo) by turning anticlockwise (90°).
2) Take off the façade on the operating side and water sup-
ply side.
3) Pass the transport tubes through the lowest holes in the
frame.
Please note the position of wirings and refrige-
ration circuit components to avoid damage!
Secure the heat pump against slipping down
and only carry horizontally!

Installation
When installing the device, please observe the
installation advice and the minimum distances in
the annex
The heat pump must be installed on a sustainable and ho-
rizontal underground. The base frame of the heat pump
must seat solidly.
As fundament material, use materials meeting these con-
ditions (concrete, sidewalk plates etc.)
The air temperature in the air outlet area may be
5K lower than the ambient temperature. Due to
this, under certain climatic conditions, there will
probably be an ice layer.
Therefore, the air outlet of the device should not
open out in the sidewalk area.
The surface in the air outlet area of the heat pump must
leak water.
The operating side of the heat pump must always be ac-
cessible for the service technician. When installing the heat
pump, please keep the following minimum distances:
Heating water supply point
The supply points are situated behind the right-hand
covering, seen from the operating side. Take of the co-
vering.
Connection to the heating system
The heating system must be flushed before connecting
the heat pump to prevent contamination inside the heating
system affecting the function of the heat pump.
On the heat pump side, flow and return must be equipped
with isolating valves to allow eventual flushing of the con-
denser.
To avoid structure-borne sound transmissions to the hea-
ting system, the connection of the heat pump on the he-
ating circuit water side must be made by flexible connec-
tions.
The flexible connections must be insulated by the
customer in accordance with the valid prescriptions
/ standards.

cessory range - “installation set”)
The outside heating water pipes must be insulated in ac-
cordance with the valid prescriptions / standards. They
must be laid underneath the frost line.
When connecting the heating circuit water pi-
pework, the connection point on the heat pump
must be secured against torsion with a spanner
in order to avoid damage to the copper pipe on
the condenser side.

Condenser ventilation
After filling the heating circuit with water, the condenser must be
ventilated by the ventilating valve.
Hydraulic schematic
The heat pump must be integrated to the heating circuit in
accordance with the recommended schematic, see schematic.
The heating circuit must be equipped with a safety valve and
an expansion tank in accordance with the current legislation for
pressure protection. Furthermore, filling and drain devices, gate
valves and return valves must be installed.
Pressure differential valve
The installation of the pressure differential valve is required to
ensure the minimum water flow rate through the heat pump.
The pressure differential valve must be sized correctly to ensure
minimum water flow rate through the heat pump even if the
heating circuit valves are closed.
Buffer storage:
A series buffer tank is needed to ensure a minimum running
time of the heat pump even if the heating valves are closed.
Size of the buffer storage:
The minimum heating circuit water flow rate depends on the hea-
ting output of the heat pump; for further details see the technical
data sheet of the heat pumps.
With single source air/water installations, the buffer tank should
be installed on the flow before the pressure differential valve.
Circulating pump
The heating circuit water and sanitary water circulating pumps
must be graded.
The use of variable speed pumps is not permitted!
Sanitary hot water heating
Sanitary water heating with the heating pumps takes place with a
second heating circuit run in parallel to the heating circuit. Please
note: during the installation, the return must not be connected to
the buffer storage.
Sanitary hot water storage
For sanitary hot water requirements using a heat pump, it is vi-
tal to have a large enough heat exchanger within the hot water
tank to ensure sufficient volume and temperature of hot water
(<= 55°C).
The storage size must be big enough to ensure sufficient sani-
tary hot water even during off-times by your local energy supply
company.
Alpha-InnoTec hot water tanks have special smooth bore pipe
exchanger surfaces. They are manufactured to match the re-
quirements of the heat pumps.
Condensate drain
The condensate tube must be laid in the device
vertically through the opening of the basic frame.
The frost-free condensate drain must be ensured. See
socket plan in the annex.

Installation and electric works must be carried
out by competent persons and in accordance
with all safety and IEE* regulations.
*IEE – Institute of Electrical Engineers
Please secure right-hand rotating field of the
load supply when connecting the heat pump.
The supply of the heat pump must be equipped
with an all-pole switching-off divece with mini-
mum 3 mm contact opening distance and a 3-
pole overload release. Please find the relevant
starting current on the respective technical data
sheet.
It is not necessary to open the switch box for the installati-
on of the power supply for the heat pump.
The supply point of the heat pump is on the device rear
side at the plug box.

the house lead-through .
The connection between the heat pump and the controller
(accessory) will be made by the control-and sensor-leads
(accessories).
Heat pump-side connection of the sensor- and control
leads
For connecting the sensor- and control leads, the switch-
box will be placed laterally in the frame. Release the at-
tachment screws.
After connection, lead the sensor- and control-lead through
the cable duct to the device rear side.

Do not tilt Connection of the sensor- and
the switchbox. control line on the rear side
of the switchbox.
Lead the sensor- and control-line through the cable
duct to the device backside and in the ground with
a tubular cable protection up to the house lead-th-
rough.
After connection of the sensor- and control-line, place the
switchbox in the original position.
The sensor- and control-line must have minimum 15 cm
excess length inside the heat pump to enable the service
technicians to hang out the switchbox when doing mainte-
nance works..

Start up
The heat pump will be started by the heat pump controller;
the start up is to be carried out by a competent person.
For this, fill in the notice of completion
(see page 29) and fax it to the supplier.
Before the start up, please check the following:
1. The installation and assembly have been carried out
in accordance with the pages 5 to 8?
2. Are the air leads free?
3. Does the sense of rotation of the fan comply with the
given sense of rotation?
4. All isolation valves and slide valves in the heating-
circuit water circuit are open?
5. Is the condensate drain ensured?
6. The heat pump controller has been installed according
to the instruction manual?
7. Does the compressor have electrical disconnection
protection?
8. Is the right-hand rotating field of the heat pump
ensured?
Maintenance
Clean the device with a damp cloth and a mild cleansing
agent.
Never use scouring, acidic or corrosive agents.
Trouble Shooting
The diagnostic programme within the heat pump
controller will establish errors.
Please find further details referring to diagnosis and trouble
shooting in the heat pump controller instruction manual!
