USE AND CHARACTERISTICS
ThisBBQissafeandeasytouse.ThespeciedgasforthisBBQ
isLPG.PleaseensureyouonlyuseyourBBQwitha2.8kPa
approvedregulator.Regulatorandhosesupplied.
Foodcanbebarbequedonthecookinggrideitherwithorwithout
thehoodbeingclosed.Whenthehoodhasbeenclosedfor
5minutes,thehoodmustbeopenedforatleast1minuteto
releaseheat.
Thegreasetrayisttedbelowtheburners.
Pleasecleanthegreasetrayregularly.(Seepage14)
Adequateventilationisvitalforcombustionandefciency
performanceoftheBBQ.Thiswillensurethesafetyoftheuser
andotherpeopleinthevicinityoftheBBQbeingused.
NeverusetheBBQinanyenclosedcoveredarea.
INSTALLATION
SELECTING A LOCATION
ThisBBQisforoutdooruseonlyandshouldbeplacedina
well-ventilatedarea.Thisapplianceconsumesoxygenanditis
dangerousforthehealthandsafetyoftheoccupantstousethis
applianceinareasnotproperlyventilated.Takecaretoensure
thatitisnotplacednearorunderanycombustiblesurface.
ThesidesoftheBBQshouldnotbecloserthan1mtoany
combustiblesurface.KeepthisBBQawayfromammable
materials.
PRECAUTIONS
DonotobstructanyventilationopeningsintheBBQbody.
Positionthegascylinderonthecylinderhanger.Thecylinder
mustnotbeplacedonthegroundwhilsttheBBQisinuse.
Shouldyouneedtochangethegascylinder,ensurethatthe
cylindervalveisclosed,anyappliancesareswitchedoffand
therearenosourcesofignition(cigarettes,openames,sparks,
etc)nearbybeforeproceeding.
Inspectthegashosetoensureitisfreeofanytwistingor
tension.Thehoseshouldhangfreelywithnobends,folds,or
kinksthatcouldobstructthefreeowofgas.Apartfromthe
connectionpoint,nopartofthehoseshouldtouchanyhot
BBQparts.

Never use Natural Gas
in a unit designed for
Liquid Propane (LP)
Gas. LP gas is not
Natural Gas.
The conversion or
attempted use of
Natural Gas in an LP
unit is dangerous and
voids your warranty.

Alwaysinspectthehoseforcuts,cracks,orexcessivewear
beforeuse.Ifthehoseisdamaged,itmustbereplacedwitha
hosesuitableforusewithLPGandwhichmeetsthenational
standardsforthecountryofuse(SouthAfrica:SANS1156-2or
BS3212).Thelengthofthehoseshallnotexceed1,5m.
CONNECTING THE GAS HOSE TO THE BBQ
ConnectthegashosetothegasmanifoldinletontheBBQ.
Donotovertighten.Donotuseanysealingtapeorliquidonthe
connection.
FIXING THE REGULATOR TO THE CYLINDER
EnsurethatalltheBBQcontrolknobsareintheOFFposition.
Connecttheregulatortothegascylinderaccordingtoyour
regulatorandcylinderdealer’sinstructions.
Alwayscheckthatthebullnosesealontheregulatorisinplace
andingoodconditionbeforeconnectingtheregulatortothe
cylinder.Performthischeckeverytimeacylinderisconnectedor
changed.Alwaysmakesurethatthethreadisfullyengagedand
properlytightened.
PleasenotethatthethreadontheregulatorisaLEFTHAND
threadandmustbeturnedinanANTI-CLOCKWISEdirectionto
tightenitwhenfacingthecylindervalve.
ASSEMBLY OF SIDE TABLES
Thehood,body,storagecabinet,mainburners,backburner,side
burnersareallpre-assembledanddonotneedtobeadjusted.
Theleftandrightsidepanelsareseparatedfromthebodyfor
shipping.
Thegascontrolpanelforthesideburnersandmainburnersare
separate,andrequireassembly.Pleaseusewashersandboltsto
connecttheleftandrightpanelstothebodyofthebarbecue
(seethepictureonthefollowingpage).

Bullnoseseal
UsegaspipeCandA&Btoconnectthemainburnersandside
burner.Lineuptheholesinthesidetableassemblywiththe
holesofburnerassembly.Place5screws(M6x12)inholesofthe
sidetableandfullytighten.Connectthesideburner’shose
assemblytothemainvalveassembly.
OnceyouhaveinstalledtheBBQ,youmustcheckforgasleaks
beforeusingtheBBQ(fordetailedstepsontesting,pleaserefer
to“leaktesting”below).
Onceyouhaveconnectedallthepartsaccordingtotheabove
instructions,pleasecheckifthereareanypartsthathavenot
beenused.Ifsopleaserepeattheaboveinstructions–thereare
nosparepartssupplied.
Beforeusing,pleaseremovethefoamandplasticpacking
material.PleasealsocleanyourBBQ.
FIXING THE REGULATOR TO THE CYLINDER
EnsurethatalltheBBQcontrolknobsareintheOFFposition.
Connecttheregulatortothegascylinderaccordingtoyour
regulatorandcylinderdealer’sinstructions.
Alwayscheckthatthebullnosesealontheregulatorisinplace
andingoodconditionbeforeconnectingtheregulatortothe
cylinder.Performthischeckeverytimeacylinderisconnectedor
changed.Alwaysmakesurethatthethreadisfullyengagedand
properlytightened.
PleasenotethatthethreadontheregulatorisaLEFTHAND
threadandmustbeturnedinanANTI-CLOCKWISEdirectionto
tightenitwhenfacingthecylindervalve.

Before proceeding
make certain that you
understand

If any burner fails to
ignite, turn the control
knob off (clockwise)
and also turn the
cylinder valve off. Wait
ve minutes before
attempting to relight
following the correct
ignition sequence from
left to right.
Do not touch any hot
BBQ parts.
The outside of the
BBQ bottom especially
becomes very hot
during use. Use
protective gloves to
handle any parts that
might become hot
during use.
LIGHTING YOUR GAS BBQ
Thelidmustbeopenwhenlightingtheburners.
Depressany/orrequiredknobsandturnanti-clockwise.Youwill
hearanaudible"click",whichwillignitethepowerfulpilotame.
Keeptheknobdepresseduntiltheburnerisalight.
Releaseandturnthecontrolknobanti-clockwiseforthedesired
setting.Followthesameprocedureasabovetoignitetheother
burners.Ifforsomereasontheburner(s)doesnotignite,referto
theManualIgnitioninstructionsthatfollow.
Afteruse,rstturnoffthegascontrolvalveatthecylinderand
thenturnALLcontrolknobstotheOFFposition.Thelidmustbe
openwhenlightingtheburners.
MANUAL IGNITION
1. Openthegascontrolvalveatthecylinder
2. Removegrids.Theburnerswillbevisible.FIRSTstrikea
matchandholdapproximately40mmawayfromtheRIGHT
HANDburner,thenpushandturntherightmostcontrolknob
anti-clockwisetotheHIGHposition.
3. Iftheburnerfailstoigniteafter5seconds,turntotheOFF
positionandwait2minutes.ThenbeginagainfromStep2.
Iftheburnerstillfailstolightafterseveralattempts,callyour
localdealerforservice.
4. Afteruse,rstturnoffthegascontrolvalveatthecylinder
andthenturnALLcontrolknobstotheOFFposition.
LEFT SIDE BURNER IGNITION
1. Opentheleftsideburnerlid.
2. Turnthecontrolknobsclockwiseto“OFF”position.
3. Connecttheregulatortothegasbottle.Turnthegassupply
“ON”atthecylinder.Usesoapywatertocheckgasleakage
betweenthebottleandtheregulator.
4. Pushdownandturnthelefthandburnercontrolknobanti-
clockwisetothe90°position(Fullrateposition).Anaudible
clickwillbeheard,thisshouldlighttheburner.Checkthat
theburnerisalight.Iftheburnerhasnotlit,repeatthis
process.
5. Iftheburnerhasnotlitaftertwoattempts,turn‘OFF’thegas
cylindervalveandwait5minutesbeforeretryingtheignition
sequence.

6. Whentheburnerhaslit,theburnerratecanbeadjustedby
turningtheknobanticlockwisetoanypositionbetweenthe
fullandlowratepositions.
7. Toturntheburner‘OFF’.Ifthesideburnerisnolonger
required,orifyouhavenishedcooking,pleaseturnthe
cylindervalveandregulatorswitchtothe‘OFF’positionand
thenturnallthecontrolknobsontheapplianceclockwiseto
the‘OFF’position.
REAR BURNER IGNITION
1. Beforeusingthebackburner,pleaseassemblethe
rotisserieandmotorandremovethewarmingrack.The
warmingrackmustalwaysberemovedwhenlightingthe
backburner.
2. Turnknob‘A’tomaximumthendepressandholdfor10
seconds.Thenpushignitionbutton'B'toignitethepilot
ame.Oncethepilotameisalight,keepknobdepressed
foranother10secondstoallowtheamesafevalvetoopen
andlighttherearceramicpanel.Turntodesiredsetting.The
rearburnerisnottobeusedatthesametimeasthebbq
burners.
An“AAA”batteryisrequiredfortheelectronicignition
ofthebackburnersystem.
Afteruse,rstturnOFFthegascontrolvalveatthecylinderand
thenturnALLcontrolknobstotheOFFposition.

REAR BURNER MANUAL IGNITION
1. Openthegascontrolvalveatthecylinder
2. Removegrids.Theburnerswillbevisible.FIRSTstrikea
matchandholdapproximately40mmawayfromtheRIGHT
HANDburner,thenpushandturntherightmostcontrolknob
anti-clockwisetotheHIGHposition.
3. Iftheburnerfailstoigniteafter5seconds,turntotheOFF
positionandwait2minutes.ThenbeginagainfromStep2.
Iftheburnerstillfailstolightafterseveralattempts,callyour
localdealerforservice.
4. Afteruse,rstturnOFFthegascontrolvalveatthecylinder
andthenturnALLcontrolknobstotheOFFposition.
ROASTING HOOD COOKING! VERY IMPORTANT!
GasBBQ'sequippedwitharoastinghoodgivetheoptionof
cookingwiththehoodclosedtoforman‘oven’forroastingfood,
suchasjointsofmeat,wholechickens,etc.Whenthehoodis
closed,alargeamountofheatistrappedinsidetheGasBBQ.
Thus,itisimportanttomakesurethattheburneristurnedtothe
lowpositiontopreventburningofthefoodanddamagingthe
GasBBQ.Avoidliftingthehoodunnecessarilyasheatwillbelost
everytimethehoodisopened.
FLARE UP CONTROL
Flare-upsoccurwhenmeatisbarbecuingonthegrillandthe
juicesfallonthehotvaporiser/ametamerplateandvaporise.
Thesmokefromsomeare-uphelpstogivethemeatitsBBQ
avour,butexcessiveare-upwillresultinthemeatbeing
burnedandbecomingbitter.Tocontrolexcessiveare-up,itis
advisabletotrimexcessivefatfrommeatandpoultrybefore
grilling;tocontrolitfurther,theburnerscanbeturnedtothelow
setting.
Finally,extinguishexcessiveare-upsbyapplyingasmall
amountofbakingsodadirectlyontothevaporiser/ametamer
plate.Alwaysprotectyourhandswhenhandlinganythingnear
theBBQcookingsurface.
DONOTALLOWYOURBBQTOOVERHEAT.

FLASHBACK (FLAME IN BURNER TUBE)
IntheeventofashbackwhilsttheBBQisinuse,turnallthe
controlsandthecylindervalvetothe‘OFF’position.Wait5
minutesbeforeattemptingtorelighttheBBQ.Iftheproblem
persists,checkforblockedventuriportsbyremovingtheburner
andcleaningwithcompressedairorwithapipecleaner.Replace
burnercorrectly.
Ifproblempersistsdonottrytorectifytheproblemyourselfas
thiscouldresultinseriousinjuryand/orpropertydamage.Store
theapplianceinacleananddryenvironment.Donotstoreyour
gascylinderindoors.Storeinawellventilatedareaawayfrom
directsunlightoranelectricalsource.
Lighttheburnersinthesamemethod,inorderfromleftright.
Theburnerwillcross-ignitefromtheburnertoit’sleft.Adjustto
therequiredheatsetting.
END OF COOKING OPERATION
Aftereachcookingsession,turntheBBQburnerstotheHIGH
positionandburnfor5minutes.Thisprocedurewillburnoff
cookingresidue,thusmakingcleaningeasier.Thehoodmustbe
openduringthisprocedure.
Turning off your BBQ.
WhenyouhavenishedusingyourBBQ,turnoffthegasatthe
cylindervalve,andthenensurethatallthecontrolvalvesare
turnedtotheOFFpositioninsequencestartingfromthelefthand
andmovingtotherighthandsideoftheunit.WaituntiltheBBQ
issufcientlycoolbeforeclosingit’shoodorlid.
GAS CYLINDER
A9kgALVAgascylinderwitha5/8inchBSPlefthandthreadis
recommended.Thiswillmatchthesuppliedregulator.Cylinders
mustbestoredinanuprightposition,inawellventilatedand
dampfreeareaandoutofreachofchildren.
Thecylindermustneverbestoredwheretemperaturescanreach
orexceed50’C.Donotstorethecylindernearopenames,pilot
lightsoranyothersourcesofignition.DONOTSMOKEWHILE
HANDLINGTHECYLINDER.

FITTING THE GAS CYLINDER TO THE APPLIANCE
ThisapplianceisonlysuitableforusewithLPG.Thisappliance
isttedwitha2.8kPalowpressureregulator.
BEFOREUSEPLEASECHECKFORLEAKS
Nevercheckforleakswithanakedame,alwaysuseasoapy
watersolution.
1. Ensurethegascylinderisturnedoff,
2. Openthecabinetdoors.
3. Loadthecylinderintothecabinet
4. Connecttheregulatortothecylinder
5. Checkalltheconnectionsforgasleakage
(seeLeakTest on following page)
REGULATOR AND HOSE
UseonlyregulatorsandhoseapprovedforLPGinaccordanceto
theSouthAfricanNationalStandards.Theuseofthewrong
regulatororhoseisunsafe;alwayscheckthatyouhavethe
correctitemsbeforeoperatingthebarbecue.
Thelengthofthehosemustbe1.5meters(maximum).Wornor
damagedhosemustbereplaced.Ensurethatthehoseisnotob-
structed,kinked,orincontactwithanypartofthebarbecueother
thanatitsconnection.Thehoseshouldnotbetwistedorkinked
whenattachedtothegascylinder.Nopartofthehoseshould
touchanypartoftheappliance.
STORAGE
FIXINGS
Annualcheckingandtighteningofmetalxingsisrecommended.
STORING YOUR BBQ
StoreyourBBQinacooldryplace.Afterhavingcleanedthe
burners,coverthemwithaluminiumfoilinordertoprevent
insectsandotherdebriscollectinginburnerholes.THEGAS
CYLINDERSHOULDBEDISCONNECTEDANDSTORED
OUTDOORSORINAWELLVENTILATEDAREA.Whenusing
thebarbecueafterextendedperiodsofstorage,pleasetakenote
onceagainofthecare,maintenanceandsafetyinstructions.

GAS CYLINDER
A9kgALVAgascylinderwitha5/8inchBSPlefthandthreadis
recommended.Thiswillmatchthesuppliedregulator.Cylinders
mustbestoredinanuprightposition,inawellventilatedand
dampfreeareaandoutofreachofchildren.Thecylindermust
neverbestoredwheretemperaturescanreachorexceed50’C.
Donotstorethecylindernearopenames,pilotlightsorany
othersourcesofignition.DONOTSMOKEWHILEHANDLING
THECYLINDER.
LEAK TEST
Theleaktestmustbecarriedoutinawell-ventilatedarea,free
fromanyamesorothersourcesofignition.
• Withthecylinderconnected
totheGasBBQ.Openthe
cylindervalve.
• Brushtheconnections
(GasBBQtocylinder)witha
solutionofequalpartssoap
andwater(mustbefoamy).
• Astreamofbubblesforming
indicatesagasleak.(SeeFig.
A)
• Ifbubblesappear,turnthe
cylindervalveOFF(clockwise)
anddisconnecttheGasBBQ
fromthegascylinder.
• Tightentheconnectionand
retrytheleaktest.
• Ifyouareunsureorifyou
cannottightentheconnection,
placethecylinderoutsideina
cool,well-ventilatedareaand
contactAlvaon086 100 ALVA
(2582).
• Aleakbetweentheregulator
andcylindercanleadtoahigh
pressurere,whichisvery
dangerousandcanresultin

CLEANING AND CARE
Aswithallappliances,propercareandmaintenancewillkeep
themintopoperatingconditionandprolongtheirlife.Yournew
gasBBQisnoexception.Byfollowingthesecleaningprocedures
onaregularbasis,yourBBQwillremaincleanandingood
workingorderwiththeminimumofeffort.
BEWAREOFSPIDERSANDWASPS.BURNERTUBES
SHOULDBEINSPECTEDANDCLEANEDPERIODICALLY!
Spidersandsmallinsectsoccasionallyspinwebsormakenests
intheburnertubesduringwarehousingandtransit.Thesewebs
canleadtoagasowobstructionwhichcouldresultinare
inandaroundtheburnertubes.Thistypeofreisknownas
FLASH-BACKandcancauseseriousdamagetoyourBBQand
createanunsafeoperatingenvironmentfortheuser.Althoughan
obstructedburnertubeisnottheonlycauseofFLASH-BACKitis
themostcommoncauseandfrequentinspectionandcleaningof
theburnertubesisnecessary.(Seepage9)
ToreducethechanceofFLASH-BACK,theprocedurelisted
belowshouldbefollowedatleastonceamonthinlatesummer
orearlyautumnwhenspidersaremostactive,orwhenyourBBQ
hasnotbeenusedforanextendedperiodoftime.
BURNER TUBE CLEANING
Followtheprocedurethatismostconvenientforyou:
1. Useasmallbottlebrushwithaexiblehandle.Runthe
brushupthrougheachventuritubeandintotheburner
severaltimes.
2. Laytheburnersdownwiththeventuritubesfacingup,and
forcewaterthroughthem.Atthistime,observeeachburner
port.Makesurewatercomesoutofeveryhole.Ifnot,clean
theburnersasfollows
BURNER CLEANING
Regardlessofwhichventuricleaningprocedureyouused,we
recommendthatyoucompletethefollowingstepstohelpprolong
burnerlife.
1. Scrubtheentireoutersurfaceoftheburnerwitha
non-metallicscouringpadtoremoveanyloosecorrosion.
2. Cleananycloggedholeswithastiffpieceofwire
(forexample:anopenpaperclip).

Never attempt to
operate your barbecue
without the burner
tube being correctly
located. A serious and
immediate re hazard
would result.
VERY IMPORTANT
The location of burner
with respect to the
orice is vital to safe
operation. Check to
ensure the valve ori-
ces are inside of the
burner tubes before
using your gas BBQ
(See Rotary piezo
ignitor diagram). If the
burner tubes (venturi)
are not tted over the
valve orices and you
start lighting the burn-
ers, an explosion and
or re might occur.

3. Inspecttheburnerassemblyforanyopeningcausedbycor-
rosion.
4. Ifanyopeningsduetocorrosionarefound,replacethe
burner.
5. Replacetheburnerandspringasdescribedintheassembly
instructions.
6. Checktheburnerforproperlocation/seatingafter
replacement.
7. Ensurethatthevalveoricesareinsidetheburnertube.
CLEANING THE GRIDS
Aftercooking,turntheburnercontrolto“OFF”andlettheBBQ
coolbeforeattemptingtocleanyourgrillplates.Beforerstuse
-aswellasperiodically-wesuggestthatyouwashthegridsin
amildsoapandwarmwatersolution.Youcanuseawashcloth,
avegetablebrush,ornon-metallicscouringpadtocleanyour
grids.
CLEANING THE FLAME TAMER
Washingtheametamersaftereveryuseisnotnecessarybut
wesuggestthatyoufrequentlywashtheametamerinasoap
andwarmwatersolution.Useanon-metallicbrush/scourerto
removestubbornburnt-oncookingresidue.Drytheametamer
thoroughlybeforeyoureinstallitinthecookingbody.
CLEANING THE DRIP TRAY Thedriptrayshouldbeemptied
andwipeddownperiodicallyandwashedinamilddetergentand
warmwatersolution.
Alevellayerofcleandrysandshouldbeplacedinthebottomof
thesandtraytoabsorbthegrease.Liningthetraywith
aluminiumfoilbeforeusewillaidincleaning.

Burning-offthegrillaftercookingwillkeepitreadyforinstantuse,
however,onceayearyoushouldgivetheentireBBQathorough
cleaningtokeepitintopoperatingcondition.
1. Turntheburnercontrolstothe“OFF”position.
2. Turnthecylindervalveofffully.
3. Detachtheregulatorassemblyfromcylindervalvebyturn-
ingthequickcouplingnut.
4. Removeandclean(asexplainedabove)thegrids,ame
tamerandburners.
5. Coverthegasvalveoriceswithaluminiumfoil.
6. BrushtheinsideandbottomoftheBBQwithacleaning
brush,andwashdownwithamildsoapandwarmwater
solution.Rinsethoroughlyandletdry.
7. Removealuminiumfoilfromoricesandcheckoricesfor
obstruction.
8. Checksparkelectrode,adjustingitasinstructed.Electrode
tippointingtowardthetipofgascollectorandapproximately
5mmfromthetipofcollectorbox.
9. Replaceburners.Adjustsparkelectrodecollectorbox.
10. Replaceametamer,gridsandwarmingrack.
11. Re-connecttogassupply.

Occasionallyobserveburnerameforcorrectoperation.See
diagrambelow.
