Preventing Flashbacks
WARNING
Beware of ashbacks.
Spiders and small insects occasionally spin webs or make nests in the grill burner tubes during transit and warehousing. These
webs can lead to gas ow obstruction, which could result in a re in and around the burner tubes. This type of re is known as a
“ashback” and can cause serious damage to your grill and create an unsafe operating condition for the user.
Although an obstructed burner tube is not the only cause of a ashback it is the most common cause.
To reduce the chance of a ashback, you must clean the burner tubes before assembling your grill, and at least once a month
in late summer or early fall when spiders are most active. Also perform this burner tube cleaning procedure if your grill has not
been used for an extended period of time. A clogged tube can lead to a re beneath the grill.

Battery Usage
Information for Safety
1. When used correctly, primary batteries provide a safe and dependable source of portable power. However, misuse or abuse
may result in leakage, re, or rupture.
2. Always take care to install your batteries correctly observing the “+” and “–” marks on the battery and the device. Batteries
that are incorrectly placed into some equipment may be short-circuited, or charged. This can result in a rapid temperature
rise causing venting, leakage, rupture and personal injury.
3. Always replace the whole set of batteries at one time, taking care not to mix old and new ones or batteries of dierent
types. When batteries of dierent brand or type are used together, or new and old batteries are used together, some
batteries may be over-discharged due to a dierence of voltage or capacity. This can result in venting, leakage, and rupture
and may cause personal injury.
4. Store unused batteries in their original packaging and away from metal objects. Unpacked batteries could be jumbled or
get mixed with metal objects. This can cause battery short-circuiting which may result in venting, leakage and rupture and
personal injury; one of the best ways to avoid this happening is to store unused batteries in their original packaging.
5. Remove discharged batteries from equipment promptly to avoid possible damage from leakage. When discharged batteries
are kept in the equipment for a long time, electrolyte leakage may occur causing damage to the appliance and/or personal
injury.
6. Never dispose of batteries in re. When batteries are disposed of in re, the heat build-up may cause rupture and personal
injury. Do not incinerate batteries except for approved disposal in a controlled incinerator.
7. Never attempt to recharge primary batteries. Attempting to charge a non-rechargeable (primary) battery may cause internal
gas and/or heat generation resulting in venting, leakage, rupture and personal injury.
8. Never short circuit batteries as this may lead to high temperatures, leakage, or rupture. When the positive (+) and negative
(–) terminals of a battery are in electrical contact with each other, the battery becomes short-circuited. This may result in
venting, leakage, rupture and personal injury.
9. Never heat batteries in order to revive them. When a battery is exposed to heat, venting, leakage and rupture may occur and
cause personal injury.

Using the Grill
The knobs are located on the lower center portion of the control panel. Each knob is labeled on the control panel.
Grilling requires high heat for searing and proper browning. Most foods are cooked at the “+” heat setting for the entire cooking
time. However, when grilling large pieces of meat or poultry, it may be necessary to turn the heat to the lower setting after the
initial browning. This cooks the food through without burning the outside. Foods cooked for a long time or foods basted with a
sugary marinade may need the lower heat setting near the end of the cooking time.
NOTE: This grill is designed to grill eciently without the use of lava rocks or briquettes of any kind. Heat is radiated by the
stainless steel ame tamers positioned above each burner.
NOTICE The hot grill sears the food, sealing in the juices. The more thoroughly the grill is preheated, the faster the meat
browns and the darker the grill marks.
NOTICE DO NOT LEAVE THE GRILL UNATTENDED WHILE COOKING.
Lighting the Grill
WARNING Before Lighting
»Inspect the gas supply hose prior to turning the gas “ON”. If there is evidence of cuts, wear, or abrasion, it must be
replaced prior to use. Do not use the grill if the odor of gas is present. Only the pressure regulator and hose assembly

Cooking your Food
WARNING Important: Before Lighting
DO NOT LEAVE THE GRILL UNATTENDED WHILE COOKING.
Preheating
Some foods require preheating, depending on the type of food and cooking temperature. When preheating your grill:
»Keep the grill lid closed while preheating.
»When cooking food at a high temperature, preheat the grill for ve minutes. When cooking food at a lower temperature,
preheat the grill for two to three minutes.
Direct and Indirect Cooking
Food can be cooked directly or indirectly. Direct cooking is when food is directly above the heat. Indirect cooking is when food is
placed between burners.
»Direct cooking: Use for preheating, searing, and for foods that cook quickly. Sear meats to keep them moist and tender.
Some meats, such as steak, can be seared rst, using direct cooking, and nished using indirect cooking. Be sure to watch
food carefully when cooking directly to avoid overcooking.
»Indirect Cooking: Use this method for foods, such as a thick cuts of meat, that takes more time to cook or for delicate foods,
such as sh, that can easily dry out. Indirect cooking is ideal for foods cooked in aluminum foil or in a roasting pan. Avoid
placing food directly over a burner.
Grilling Tips
Refer to these tips while cooking meat on your grill:
»Defrost meats overnight in the refrigerator (instead of a microwave) for a juicier cut of meat.
»The cooking time is aected by the kind of meat, the size and shape of the cut, the temperature of the meat when cooking
begins, and the degree of doneness desired.
»Use a high temperature for a fast warm-up, searing steaks and chops, and grilling.
»Use a low temperature for all roasting, baking, and when cooking very lean cuts such as sh.
»You can cook poultry and large cuts of meat slowly to perfection on one side of the grill by indirect heat from the
burner on the other side. This cooks food without any direct ame touching it, reducing areups from fat and juice
dripping down.
NOTICE Cooking temperatures will vary depending on the outside temperature and wind.
»The doneness of meat, whether rare, medium, or well done, is aected to a large degree by the thickness of the cut.
»Always preheat the grill before placing food on it.
»Trim any excess fat from meat before cooking. To prevent steaks or chops from curling during cooking, slit the fat around
the edges at 2 in. (50.8 mm) intervals.
»Place pieces of food that are similar in size together for more even cooking
»Watch food closely to avoid overcooking, burning, or drying out food.
»Allow more time to cook large pieces of meat.
»The more food placed on the grill, the more time it will take to cook everything.
»Use a spatula rather than a fork to turn food on the grill as a spatula will not puncture the meat and let juices run out.
»Use a timer to avoid overcooking food.
»Apply a small amount of cooking oil to the grate before preheating to help avoid food sticking to the grate.
»For the juiciest meats, add seasoning or salt after the cooking is nished on each side and turn the meat only once (juices
are lost when the meat is turned several times). Turn the meat just after the juices begin to bubble to the surface.
»Follow the recommended cook times, heat settings, and special instructions in the "Grill Chart" on page 13 for more
detailed instructions.

Maintaining the Grill
Cleaning the Grill
Stainless Steel
»Always use the mildest cleaning procedure rst, scrubbing in the direction of the grain.
»Do not use steel wool as it will scratch the surface.
»To touch up noticeable scratches in the stainless steel, sand very lightly with dry 100 grit emery paper in the direction of the
grain.
»Specks of grease can gather on the surfaces of the stainless steel and bake on to the surface and give the appearance of
rust. To remove, use a mild abrasive pad in conjunction with a stainless steel cleaner.
Grill Grates
For easier cleaning, scrub the grill grates immediately after cooking is completed and after turning o the ame. If the grill is
allowed to cool before cleaning, cleaning will be more dicult.
Dip a brass bristle barbecue brush in water and scrub the hot grill. Dip the brush frequently in the bowl of water. Steam, created
as water touches the hot grill, assists the cleaning process by softening any food particles.
WARNING
»Wear a barbecue mitt to protect your hand from the heat and steam.
»Make sure that the gas supply and control knobs are turned o.
»Make sure that the grates are cool before removing.
Grill Burners
Extreme care should be taken when moving a burner as it must be correctly centered on the orice before any attempt is made
to relight the grill. Frequency of cleaning will depend on how often you use the grill.
Before cleaning, make sure that the gas supply and control knobs are turned o and the grill is cool.
»Clean the exterior of the burner with a wire brush.
»Clear stubborn scale with a metal scraper.
»Clear any clogged ports with a straightened paper clip. Never use a wooden toothpick as it may break o and clog the port.
Check if insects or other obstructions are blocking the ow of gas through the burner, and if so, call the customer service
line at 1-800-913-8999.
Grease Tray
»The grease tray should be periodically emptied, wiped down, and washed with a mild detergent and warm water solution.
»A small amount of sand may be placed in the bottom of the grease tray to absorb the grease.
»Check the grease tray frequently. Do not allow excess grease to accumulate and overow out of the grease tray.

vapors and liquids.
»Do not obstruct the ow of combustible and ventilation air.
»Keep the ventilation openings of the cylinder enclosure free and clear from debris.
Checking for Spiders and Insects
Periodically check and clean the burner and venturi tubes for insects and insect nests. A clogged tube can lead to a re beneath
the grill and is the most common cause of ashbacks.
To reduce the chance of a ashback, clean the burner tubes:
»Before assembling your grill
»At least once a month in late summer and early fall (when spiders are most active)
»If your grill has not been used for an extended period of time
Inspect the burners at least once a year or immediately after any of the following occurs:
»The smell of gas and the burner ames appearing yellow.
»The grill does not reach temperature.
»The grill heats unevenly.
»The burners make popping noises.
Storing the Grill
»The gas must be turned o at the supply cylinder when the unit is not in use.
»Place a dust cap on the cylinder valve outlet when the cylinder is not in use. Only install the type of dust cap on the cylinder
valve outlet that is provided with the cylinder valve. Other types of caps or plugs may result in leakage of propane.
»If the appliance is stored indoors, the LP gas tank must be disconnected and removed from the grill. LP gas tanks must be
stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area out of the reach of children.
CAUTION
»If burners go out during operation, close the gas supply at the source, and turn all gas valves o. Open the lid and wait
ve minutes before attempting to relight (this allows accumulated gas fumes to clear).
»Should a grease re occur, close the gas supply at the source, turn o all burners, and leave the lid closed until re is out.
»DO NOT attempt to disconnect any gas tting while your grill is in operation. As with all appliances, proper care and
maintenance will keep them in top operating condition and prolong their life. Your gas gill is no exception.
