RECOVERY PROCEDURE.

WARNINGS
All installations should be in accordance with the relevant requirements of
Building Regulations, Local Authority Byelaws and I.E.E. Regulations and
Units should be wired by a competent, qualified Electrician.
Under normal operating conditions, when
mains power to the controller is interrupted, the
clock will operate normally for seven days after
which it will stop. The built-in battery will con-
tinue to back up the program information for the
life duration of the cell. If, however the battery is
removed and allowed to power down, all user
programming will be removed and replaced by a
manufactures default setting.

Leave the battery out for at least 60 seconds.
This will delete any user programming and reset
the controller.
Refit the battery (or new battery is necessary)
Carefully re-fit the front cover by connecting the
ribbon cable from the power PCB assembly in
the base unit.
Using a small pozi-head screwdriver, re-fit the 4
fixing screws retained from earlier.
Refit the four plastic fixing plugs retained from
earlier.
Turn the mains isolator back on.
Refer to the SmartCom² User Manual if further
settings are required
If the LCD screen display appears ‘blank’ or
‘freezes’ during programming, power to the
SmartCom² will have to be removed to allow for
the default settings to be recovered.*
In such a scenario, the lithium coin cell must be
removed form the controller for a period of time.
The information contained in this technical bulletin
is designed to aid a qualified or competent service
technician in the instruction it is intended for.
* Assuming ribbon cable connections has previ-
ously been checked for ware and connections are
correctly made to both the pcb’s
Tools required.
The following tools and equipment will be re-
quired to complete this task:
1. Small pozi-head screwdriver
2. Electrical screwdriver
3. SmartCom Owners manual
4. New Battery (if required)
Step by step instructions.
ENSURE ALL ELECTRICAL SUPPLY TO
THE HEATER AND THE SMARTCOM²
CONTROL PANEL ARE ISOLATED BEFORE
PROCEEDING.
Using a small electrical screwdriver, carefully
remove the 4 plastic fixing plugs located at
each corner of the front cover. Retain for later.
Using a small pozi head screwdriver, remove
the 4 retaining screws. Retain for later.
Carefully lift the front cover and unplug the rib-
bon cable from the power PCB assembly in the
base unit.
The battery is located on the pcb board on the
reverse side of the controller lid.
Using a small electrical screwdriver, carefully
prise upwards and remove the battery.
