GENERAL OPERATION:
All controls are located on the back of the Tech/Plus 32 behind a panel door.
The Tech/Plus 32 augmentative communicator is a self-contained 12 level communication device, which permits the
user to record and playback 432 distinct messages, each of 2.25 or 4.5 seconds in length. The Tech/Plus 32 is simple
to operate, just turn the unit on, adjust the volume, set the level select knob to the desired level, slide in the overlay
to match the level select knob and push the message square to play the corresponding message.
RECHARGEABLE BATTERY (optional):
The Rechargeable Battery pack provides you with up to eight hours of use with a recharging time of approximately
four hours. Follow these instructions when recharging:
The battery must be fully charged before using for the first time.
1. To charge the battery pack, plug the charging unit into an AC outlet.
2. Plug the other end of the charger into the back of the Tech/Plus 32 into the jack labeled CHARGE. The
charging LED will turn RED when charging.
3. When the charging LED changes to GREEN, the battery is completely charged.
4. It is recommended that the unit be recharged nightly.

RECORD OPERATION:
Note: It is important that the built-in microphone located on the front right-hand side of the Tech/Plus 32 is
open and clear during recording.
Recording procedure for the 32 message squares:
1. Set the Level Select knob (see diagram below BACK VIEW for Level Selection).
2. Set the VOLUME control, by sliding the wheel to the left until it reaches the desired volume level.
3. Press and hold in the Recording Button. The Recording Button must be engaged for the entire
recording process. An external recording switch can be used by plugging a switch into the jack on the
back of the Tech/Plus 32 labeled EXT REC.
4. Select one of the 32 message squares on the face of the Tech/Plus 32 and depress and hold down that
message square, when the recording LED on the top right-hand side on the grid turns ON begin to say
your message into the built in microphone located on the front right hand side of the Tech/Plus 32.
5. When you are finished saying the message, release the message square.
6. Each of the remaining buttons can be programmed in the same manner for that level.
Recording procedure for the 4 core messages:
Note: The 4 core messages can be recorded on any level setting, they will play the same message on
every level.
1. Set the VOLUME control, by sliding the wheel to the left until it reaches the desired volume level.
2. Press and hold in the Recording Button. The Recording Button must be engaged for the entire
recording process. An external recording switch can be used by plugging a switch into the jack on the
back of the Tech/Plus 32 labeled EXT REC.
3. Select one of the 4 core messages on the face of the Tech/Plus 32 and depress and hold down that
message, when the recording LED on the top right-hand side on the grid turns ON begin to say your
message into the built in microphone located on the front right hand side of the Tech/Plus 32.
4. When you are finished saying the message, release the message.
5. Each of the remaining core messages can be programmed in the same manner.
PLAYBACK OPERATION:
*If you are using the optional external speaker, be sure to plug the external speaker in to the jack in the back of the
Tech/plus 8 labeled EXT SPK and then perform steps 1 through 4
1. Turn the Tech/Plus 32 ON. Lift the panel door on the back of the Tech/Plus 32. Slide the VOLUME
control wheel to the left, until it clicks ON.
2. Set the VOLUME control, by sliding the wheel to the left until it reaches the desired volume level.
3. Set the Level Select knob to the desired level to match the overlay.
4. Select one of the 32 message squares or core messages on the face of the Tech/plus 32 and depress that
message square for message playback.

OVERLAY DESIGN AND LAYOUT:
Graphic overlays (picture cards) can be changed easily by simply sliding the overlay through the side slot of the
housing grid. There are several methods you can use to make overlays for the Tech/Plus 32. Options include:
1. Drawing or printing corresponding icons or words on a sheet of 6” x 13 ¼” paper. Section each icon
so that it appears in each of the 32 message switch cutouts.
2. Developing your custom overlay using the Overlay Designer Pro or Tech Overlay Designer Software.
Tech Overlay designer is included on the resource CD as well as the instructions and on our website @
www.amdi.net.
3. Developing your custom overlay using the Mayer-Johnson Boardmaker software. Blank templates are
available on the resource CD included and on our website @ www.amdi.net.
CLEANING THE TECH/PLUS 32
Note: DO NOT SUBMURGE THE TECH/PLUS 32 IN WATER OR ALLOW WATER TO ENTER THE
EXTERNAL SPEAKER, RECORD JACK OR SPEAKER HOLES... THE TECH/PLUS 32 IS WATER
RESISTANT – NOT WATER PROOF.
1. Turn the Tech/Plus 32 off.
2. Remove the overlay from the grid.
3. With a wet wash cloth and mild soap wipe the soiled areas clean.
4. To rinse, use a wet sponge (cold water) and wipe the away the soapy area.
5. The grid can easily be removed for cleaning by unscrewing the 6 Phillips head screws on the back of
the Tech/Plus 32.
Care and Maintenance
The Tech/Plus 32 is designed to automatically power down after a message is played. However, the power down
mode is still an active mode and will drain some power from the battery, affecting battery life. Therefore, if the
Tech/Plus 32 is not going to be used for a long period of time (2 to 3 hours) it is recommended that the unit be
turned off.
If the Tech/Plus 32 should fail to operate, or operates incorrectly, follow these steps:
1. Check that the batteries are fully charged or are somewhat new.
2. Check that the Tech/Plus 32 is ON and a Message has been recorded at that level.
3. Make sure that there are no obstacles blocking the message membrane square.
4. Turn the Tech/plus 32 OFF for 15 Seconds, then back ON and retry playback.
