Return of Damaged Goods
IMPORTANT If any item has been damaged in transit, this should be reported to the carrier and to the
supplier immediately. Damage caused in transit is the responsibility of the carrier not the supplier.
DO NOT RETURN a damaged instrument to the sender as the carrier will not then consider a claim. Save
the packing with the damaged article for inspection by the carrier.
Return of Goods for Repair
If you need to return goods for repair please contact our Customer Service Department. They will be
able to advise you on the correct returns procedure.
Any item returned to Land Instruments International should be adequately packaged to prevent damage
during transit.
You must include a written report of the problem together with your own name and contact information,
address, telephone number, email address etc.

Approvals apply in the USA
Operation of radio transmitters, telephones or other electrical/electronic devices in close proximity
to the equipment while the enclosure doors of the instrument or its peripherals are open, may cause
interference and possible failure where the radiated emissions exceed the EMC directive.
The protection provided by this product may be invalidated if alterations or additions are made to the

1 Introduction
The LANDSCAN LSPHD SYSTEM uses high speed infrared detectors and precision
electronics to provide accurate linescan temperature measurement at high scan rates.
Thesystemiscompact,yetrugged,providingreliableoperationinthemostsevere

2 Installation
2.1 Introduction
TheequipmentspeciedinthisUserGuidemustbeoperated,maintainedandserviced
bysuitablytrainedpersonnel,capableofcarefullyfollowingtheprocedures,warnings
andguidelinesgiven.ItisadvisablethatallUserGuidesandInstallationGuides
associatedwithLSPHDSystemequipmentshouldbereadthoroughlyandbekeptreadily
available.
CAUTION
Ensure that the LSPHDHeadismountedsecurely,inalocationwheretheeffects
of vibration, dust and fumes are kept to a minimum. Ensure that the scanning
sight path is not obscured.
The LSPHD10,20&21haveafocusdistancefactorysetat2000mm/79in.
RefertoSection2.2fordetailsofhowtochangethefocusdistance.
Chooseamountinglocationwhichminimisesexternalheatingofthescanner.
Iftheambienttemperatureoftheunitexceedsthespeciedmaximum,a
coolingsystem(availablefromAMETEKLand)mustbetted.
Iftheinstrumentistobeusedinenvironmentswheregasesresultingfrom
combustionarepresent,contactAMETEKLandsothattheapplicationcanbe
fullyassessedbeforeyouinstallthescanner.

2.2 Changing the focus distance

The focus distance of the LSPHD 10, LSPHD 11, LSPHD 20, LSPHD 21 and LSPHD 22,
linescannerheadisfactorysetto2m/79in.Thefocusdistancecanbeuser-adjusted
intherange1m/40intoinnity.
1) Removethefrontcoverofthescanner(thepanelnearestthelaserswitch).
RefertoFig.2.ThefocuscanbeadjustedbyturningtheFocusing ring,which
isheldinplacebytheClamping plate.
2) RemovethetopscrewfromtheClamping plate to free the Focusing ring.
3) Inordertofocustheinstrumentaccurately,thefocusingmechanismmustrstbe
'zeroed'. Rotate the Focusing ringinthedirectionofthe'Focuslong'arrow(i.e.
totheright)untilitiswoundinfully.
4) Refertothetablebelow.RotatetheFocusing ring to the left for the number of
turnsrequiredtomatchthefocusdistanceyouwanttoset.
Thetablebelowgivesthefocusdistancesthatcanbeachievedbyturningthe
focusingring.Eachscrewholeonthefocusingringisat0.05ofaturn.

the focusing ring to the required intermediate position.
6) Whenyouhavefocusedthescannertotherequireddistance,therewillbeahole
in the Focusing ring thatalignswiththeholeintheClamping plate(youmay
needtoadjusttheFocusingringslightly).Insertandtightenthescrewthrough
the Clamping plate to secure the Focusing ring in position.
7) Replacethecoverpanel.
Thescannerisnowfocused.

2.3 Positioning The Scanner
Before installing the scanner, refer to the cautions given in Section 2.1.
The scanner must be installed so that the target plane is parallel to the scanner
window.
RefertoFig.3(below).Thewidthofthescan(SW)isproportionaltothedistance
(TD)betweenthescannerandthetargetplane.Chooseatargetdistancethatwillgive
ascanlinethatjustexceedsthewidthoftheproduct,asthisgivesmaximumspatial
resolution.

2.4.1 Scan Width
ThefullscananglefortheLSPScanneris80°,andtheScanWidth(SW)canbe
calculated as:
SW=(TD+35)x1.678mm
or
SW=(TD+1.38)x1.678inches
Where‘TD’istheperpendicularTargetDistancebetweentheLSPwindowandthe
target plane.
Atthescanangleextremes(±40°)thelengthoftheTargetPath(TP)betweenthe
scanner and the target is:
TP=(TD+35)/0.766mm
or
TP=(TD+1.38)/0.766inches

2.4.2 Target Size
ThecalculatedTargetSizeisstrictlyonlycircularatascanangleofzerodegrees,i.e.
perpendicular to the instrument.
Atallotherscanangles,thetargetspotwillbeanellipse.Theellipticaltargetsizeis
showninthefollowingtablesforthescanangleextremes(±40°).

Head has an integral laser unit that can be used to help align
thescannerduringinstallation.Forinstructionsonhowtousethelaseralignmentunit,
refertoSection4.0ofthisUserGuide.
Tointerpretthescanproleproducedbythescanner,thescandirectionoftheunitmust
beknown.Thescandirectionisindicatedbyanembossedarrowheadcastintothetop
ofthescannercasing(SeeFig.4overleaf).
Thedesignofthescannermountingsensuresthatthescannerwillalwaysbereplacedin
the correct orientation, should the scanner be removed from the application for servicing
etc.
