DESCRIPTION
TheGemcoRotatingCamLimitSwitchhasbeen
developedtomeetallrequirementsforanindustrial
multipurposecam-actuatedlimitswitchinapplications
wherepreciserepetitivesequential,automatic,orsemi-
automaticoperationsarerequiredincontrolcircuitry.
Whenmotionisexpressedinshaftrotation,either
througharollerchain,gear train, or directly,the Gemco
RotatingCamLimitSwitchmakes it possibletoopenor
closeindependentcircuitsatanydesiredangularposition
oftheinputshaft. Anyclosedcircuit or opencircuitfrom
4°to 356° isobtainable without theuse of specialcams.
Allcamsettingscanbeadjusted at any angularposition
ofthecamshaft.

TO ADJUST CAM SETTING
SUGGESTED SET-UP PROCEDURE
The Gemco Micro-AdjustCams maybe adjusted either
beforeorafterinstallation. Thefollowingprocedureis
recommendedforcamadjustment.
1. Mounttheassemblyandcoupleshaftdriving member
withtheshaftkeywayalignedwiththepositioningarrow
locatedonthe bearingendplate. The machine shouldbe
inthestartcycle positionwithallcams set atzero.
2. Turncamadjustment disctothe desired setting,
observingthe angular degree positionmarkingsonthe
topof the cam block.
3. Followthe cam settingprocedure asdescribed inside
thecoverof the enclosure.

Mounttheassembly andcoupletheinput shaft to
thedriving member,withtheshaftkeywayupandin
linewith the positioning arrowonthebearingend
plate. Themachineshould be inthestartcycle
position.
ESTABLISHING CAM SHAFT
DIRECTION OF ROTATION
Camsettingsshouldbemade with the camshaft
uppermostto theviewer. The picture at thetop
illustratesthisviewingpositionandalsoshowsthe
adjustingtoolbeing applied to the adjusting wheel.
Shaftrotation is alwaysestablishedofftheright
endoftheunitevenwhentheinputshaft,whether
director through agear reducer, issituated atthe
leftend. Asanaidto designating shaftrotation
whengear reduceris used, consult page 10of the
1980Catalog Section.
CAM SETTINGS
Forclockwiserotation,set“make” angle with the
blackdialand “break” with thered dial fordwell
settingsless than 180° or greater. Reverse colors
fordwellsgreater than 180°.
Forcounterclockwiserotation,set“make”angle
withthe white dial and“break”withtheyellow
dial. Reversecolors for dwells greater than 180°.
Switchconnectionsshouldbe made inaccordance
withtheillustrationstotheright,which,incidentally,
arebothclockwiserotatingexamples.

ELECTRICAL CONTACTS
Thewelded silvercadmiumoxidecontactsprovidethefollowingadvantages:(1)Highelectricalconductiv-
ity, (2) Excellent resistance tostickingcontacts,(3)Minimumelectricalerosion. Thepresenceof cadmium
oxidegiveshigharcquenchingcharacteristicsofcadmiumwithoutareductionofhighconductivityoffine
silver. This is becausethecadmiumoxideremains as discreteparticlesthroughoutthesilver base andeach
exhibitsitsownphysicalcharacteristics.

TheN.O. andN.C. contacts of the single pole, doublethrow snapon circuitsof thesame snap switch has
twopoles, which can be usedon opposite polarities. The N.O. andN.C. circuit of each poleof thetwo
polesnapswitch, however, mustbe used onthesame polarity.
