A1.2 Installing the RS422/485 Serial Communications Card
The RS422/485 Serial Comms card supplied with LIPS FTI-E for connecting the
NUDAM input / outputmodules is the Amplicon 200 series, 9-way standard port. Full
installation details for this type of card can be found in the User Manual supplied
with the card.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock. Before opening the PC, ensure that the system
is isolated from the mains power supply.
WARNING Observe precautions for handling static sensitive devices.
To install the RS422/485 Serial Comms Card
•Ensure that the computer and any peripheral devices are switched o and are
disconnected from the mains power supply.
• Remove any obstructions which prevent access to the computer i.e. monitor,
keyboard etc.
• Refer to the PC ‘Operating Instructions’. Remove the cover from the computer to
reveal the motherboard and expansion slots.
• Select an empty expansion slot with a PCI type connector.
• Observe precautions for handling static sensitive devices. Slide the card into the
slot.
•To ensure that the air ow within the computer is sucient to adaquately cool the
machine, make sure that any remaining expansion slot covers are in place.
• Refer to the PC ‘Operating Instructions’. Replace the computer cover.
• Reconnect the computer monitor, keyboard etc.
• Reconnect the computer and any peripheral devices to the mains power supply.
• Switch on the computer.
• When the computer starts up, the Windows® software displays the ‘New
Hardware Found’ dialog box, stating that it has detected new installed hardware.
• Insert the Amplicon CD ROM, provided with the Serial Comms card, into the
CD ROM drive and wait for the ‘Wizard’ to nd the relevant software for the
installed Serial Comms card. Click ‘Finish’ when prompted. If a warning window is
displayed at this point, click ‘Continue Anyway’ to carry on.
• When the ‘New Hardware Found’ prompt is displayed, select ‘Install Automatically’
and click ‘Next’.
• If a warning window is displayed at this point, click ‘Continue Anyway’ to carry
on.
• The ‘New Hardware Found’ prompt is displayed again for the second RS485 port.
Follow the instructions as above.
•Acknowledge any displayed screens to nish the installation process.
ToconguretheRS422/485SerialCommsCard
• Open Control Panel - System - Device Manager

A1.3 Maintenance
The body of the camera, mountings and optical tube can be cleaned by wiping
with a clean cloth moistened with either water or a mild, neutral detergent.
The optical tube front window can be cleaned by wiping with a lens tissue.
For stubborn dirt, use a lens cleaner or alcohol on a soft cloth.
The recommended calibration interval for this system is 12 months. Hoses
and pipes should also be checked regularly for leaks, cracks, chang and
other wear and tear.

A1.4 Installation Requirements
To ensure safe and reliable operation of the FTI-Eb system the following
installation guidelines should be followed:
Ensure that the water and air supplies are connected and capable of supplying
the correct ow rate. Refer to Fig. 2a (Section B, Page 3) before installing the
camera and optic into the probe.
If the cleanliness of the water supply cannot be guaranteed, then a 100~150
µm particle lter should be installed in the supply feed. However, it is
important that a by-pass is available for when the lter has to be removed for
replacement or cleaning.
Ensure the ow of water at all times when the probe assembly is mounted,
even when the furnace is cold or the camera is not present.
The weight of the unit must be supported beneath the camera housing and
NOT by the clamp on the water cooled tube.
Beware that the end of the optic will be hot when removed from the furnace
during normal operation.
It is recommended that the FTI-E Borescope is installed in such a way that
it does not protrude into the furnace itself. The worst case is that tip should
be in-line with the furnace wall however it is preferred that the tip should be
protected by the furnace wall aperture; see below:
However ensure that the eld of view is not clipped by the inner wall of the
furnace.
While the FTI-E Borescope is designed to measure temperatures up to
1600 °C it is recommended that the ambient temperature at the tip is below
1200 °C
60°
Max. Ambient
1200° C
