MX-MM MobileMouse (MAC) Introduction
1
Introduction
What is MobileMouse?
MobileMouse is a pointing device that freesyou from the restrictions of traditional
desktop mouse devices and trackballs. The MobileMouse’s cordless, hand-held
design lets you interact with your audience—and your computer—with convenience
and comfort. MobileMouse’s infrared technology allows it to be used at distances of
up to 40 feet. It is designed to fit users’ hands of any size or shape, left or right.
Features
You realize several benefits from the following MobileMouse features:
• Complete 360-degree control of cursor direction and speed, giving you total
freedom of movement
• Two click buttons that replace those found on any standard Apple compatible
mouse
• Alow-power sleep mode to extend battery life (For travel, we recommend that
you remove the batteries to extend their life even longer and prevent
undesirable battery drain if the buttons become activated.)
• Plug-and-play compatibility with Apple System 6.0 (or newer), requiring no
special software and replacing any standard one-button Apple Desktop Bus
(ADB) mouse
What’s Included in this Package
In this package, you will find the following items:
• MobileMouse hand-held transmitter
• MobileMouse transmitter carrying bag
• MobileMouse receiver with 6-foot cable to 6-pin round ADB connector
• Two AAA alkaline batteries

MX-MM MobileMouse (MAC) Quick Start 3
Quick Start
To get started quickly, follow these instructions.
1. Turn off your computer. This is necessary to properly start up your new
MobileMouse and to protect your Apple ADB port.
2. Adjust the tracking speed.
At first, you may wish to slow the Mouse Tracking to slow or very slow. To
make this adjustment, open Mouse in the Control Panel. You can increase the
Tracking setting as you become familiar with MobileMouse operation.
3. Make sure the two AAA batteries are installed.
4. Hold MobileMouse in a pistol grip, with yourmiddle finger in the contoured
indent and your forefinger in front of the trigger-like click button.
a. Place your thumb on the center of MobileMouse’s mouse-button and gently
rock it in the direction you want the cursor to move.
b. Press softly to move the cursor slowly. Press harder to move the cursor
faster—the harder you press, the faster the cursor will move. The top click
button is redundant with the trigger button on the underside.

MX-MM MobileMouse (MAC) Installing MobileMouse 5
Installing MobileMouse
Overview
The MobileMouse receiver connects to your computer just like a conventional
mouse. It can be connected to any ADB port. To install MobileMouse, first verify
that your system meets these requirements:
• Macintosh or compatible system
• ADB port available
• Apple System 6.0 or newer
Connecting MobileMouse to an ADB port
Follow these instructions to connect MobileMouse to an ADB port.
1. Turn your computer off.
2. Plug the connector at the end of the MobileMouse receiver into any of the ADB
ports. Exercise caution when plugging in the connector to avoid bending pins.
3. Turn on your computer and let it boot up normally. You may now use
MobileMouse if the correct mouse driver is installed.

MX-MM MobileMouse (MAC) Using MobileMouse 7
Using MobileMouse
Holding MobileMouse
Hold MobileMouse in a pistol grip, with your middle finger in the contoured
channel on the underside, and yourforefinger poised in front of the trigger button.
The thumb can then easily control the cursor with light pressure on the mouse
button. Additionally, you can pull back your thumb to activate the top button,
which is redundant with the trigger button underneath. You will also notice that
MobileMouse works well for both left-and right-handed users.
Using the Pressure-Sensing Mouse Button
MobileMouse’s pressure-sensing mouse button converts the touch of your thumb
into a smooth cursor movement. To move the cursor, place your thumb on the center
of the mouse button and rock it in the direction you want the cursor to go. You can
move the cursor in any direction—MobileMouse has full 360-degree control. A light
touch producesslow, precise cursor movement. More pressure increasesthe cursor
speed—the harder you press, the faster the cursor moves.
To get started, you may wish to slow the Mouse Tracking to slow or very slow. To
make this adjustment, open Mouse in the Control Panel. You can increase the
Tracking setting as you become familiar with MobileMouse operation.
Clicking on an item
The two click buttons on MobileMouse emulate the single button on a conventional
Apple-compatible mouse. Use either button to click on an item.
Dragging an item
Simply press and hold either button while moving the cursor to the desired location.
Release this button to complete the drag operation.

8Using MobileMouse MX-MM MobileMouse (MAC)
Changing the Batteries
The MobileMouse transmitter uses two AAA alkaline batteries.
1. Remove the battery compartment cover by carefully pressing down on the cover
at the front edge, while sliding it toward the rear.
2. Insert the batteries with the positive (+) and negative (–) orientation shown
inside the compartment (negative at the flat end of the battery).
Positioning the Receiver
The MobileMouse receiver is multi-positional. It can lay flat or be mounted on either
side, or it can be stood up. If you are placing it on a table or desktop, stand the
receiver up to minimize any disruption of the signal by the table or desk. When you
are mounting or positioning the receiver, be careful not to block the lens from line-
of-sight contact with the hand-held transmitter. If the room where you are using
MobileMouse is filled with furniture or people, you may wish to mount the receiver
up high to avoid interruptions of the transmitted signal.
Distance and Operating Angles
The MobileMouse can be used to distances up to 40 feet, depending on conditions
such as room size and electronic noise (such as lights and monitors). The transmitter
works by sending an infrared signal to the receiver. This signal is line-of-sight,
which means the transmitter must be pointed toward the receiver, and the gap
between the transmitter and receiver must not be blocked from normal vision. By
experimenting, you will find that the receiver and transmitter work throughout a
very broad range of use angles—you only need to point in the general direction of
the receiver to get smooth operation. For presenters, you may even find that you can
bounce the signal off of the presentation screen, or a wall, and back to the receiver.
Transporting the MobileMouse
When transporting MobileMouse, remove the batteries from the transmitter. While
MobileMouse does automatically go into a low-power sleep mode, we recommend
removing the batteries to extend their life even longer and to prevent undesirable
drain if the mouse-button or click buttons should become activated.
Note
If your MobileMouse’s
operational distance begins to
diminish, or if the cursor
motion becomes rough,
replace the batteries in the
transmitter to restore normal
performance.

MX-MM MobileMouse (MAC) Technology and Specifications 9
Technology and Specifications
How MobileMouse Works
MobileMouse’s innovative design features no moving parts—the patented touch-
actuated sensor used in VersaPoint technology replaces the troublesome mechanical
assemblies (such as optical encoders, wheels, rollers, or balls) used in conventional
mice and trackballs.
When you press on the mouse-button, your finger pressure is transferred to the
pressure sensor under the disk. This sensor is divided into four zones:North, South,
East, and West. The pressure is distributed over the four zones, analyzed by the
VersaPoint electronics, and converted into an infrared signal that is sent to the
receiver. The receiver then converts this signal into data for cursor movement in the
desired direction.
The same four-zone sensor that determines cursor direction also controls cursor
speed—a light touch moves the cursor at a precise crawl while heavier pressure in
the same direction causesthe cursor to move faster. MobileMouse’s unique pressure
sensor changes its output signal proportionately to applied pressure. VersaPoint
electronics interpret the variation in sensor output and convert this into variable
speed cursor movement.
