NXA-WAP200G Wireless Access Point
Introduction
AMX's new NXA-WAP200G 802.11g Wireless Access Point/Wireless Bridge (FG2255-01)
provides both high performance and increased security to support all of AMX's G4 Modero
wireless touch panels. The NXA-WAP200G provides convenient WLAN access for office/home
computers with connection speeds of up to 54Mbps.
The NXA-WAP200G integrates Power Over Ethernet (PoE), Repeater, and Bridge capabilities
which increase your deployment and coverage options while easing the installation process.
PoE allows you to deploy access points within locations where it would normally be
difficult and time consuming to run electrical wiring. PoE is an IEEE 802.3af standard
for distributing power over either a CAT5 (capable of up to 10/100 Mbps transmission) or
CAT6 (capable of up to 1 Gbps transmission) Ethernet cable. Within this configuration,
power is integrated onto the Ethernet cable through the PoE injector switch. Power and
data are then sent across the Ethernet cable to the terminal device which then separates
the power and data.
The NXA-WAP200G can be deployed in one of three modes to increase its deployment to those
locations where it could prove difficult to wire CAT5 Ethernet cables:
Access Point Mode - In this mode the WAP200G is connected to the LAN through a
CAT5 Ethernet cable and enables all of AMX's G4 Modero Wireless Touch Panels to
connect to the network wirelessly.
AP/Repeater Mode - When trying to install the WAP200G in a location that has
electricity but does not have an Ethernet connection, such as a brick wall with an existing
electrical outlet; the WAP can be placed in the AP/Repeater mode. This configuration
allows it to provide coverage for that area and send network traffic through another AP
back to the wired network using the Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
Bridge Mode - In this mode, the WAP200G allows devices with only wired 10/100
Ethernet ports (such as a Printer, PlayStation2, X-Box, PVR, etc.) to be connected to the
LAN wirelessly.
This 802.11g WAP is also fully compatible with IEEE 802.11b standards, so it can connect with
any existing 802.11b compliant devices.
In addition, the WAP200G functions in tandem with optional external antennas that meet a variety
of reception/transmission needs. Each antenna provides coverage which suits their particular
installation needs and site requirements. Refer to the WAP200G Accessories section on page 5 for
more information.
