Title for the guide
Introduction
The technical Support team had determined that your Sprint’s Maintenance Station
needs to be replaced. These step-by-step instructions are designed to assist our end
users in the replacement procedures.
Scope
This applies to Sprint printers only.
Symptoms
The maintenance station is no longer functioning due to broken parts or electro-
mechanical problems.
Possible causes
1. Broken wiper blade mechanism no longer engages to wipe the print head.
2. The maintenance station pump will no longer drain waste ink.
3. The print carriage will not release from the maintenance station.
Parts needed
1. New maintenance station.
Tools needed for repair
1. You will need at least 3 Philips head screw drivers. Small (2 in shaft), medium (5-6 in
shaft) and long (12 in shaft).
2. 1 –Anti static wrist strap (these can be purchased at a computer or electronics
store).

Step 1 –Removing Control Panel
1. Remove the two Phillips (+) screws that hold the Control Panel to the printer body. These
are accessed from a rectangular hole located beneath the printer. (Photo 1.0)

2. Remove the ribbon cable from the LCD.
3. Remove the 2 pin connector from the LCD backlight cable.
4. Remove the flat flex cable from the Control panel cable.
5. Disconnect the 2-2pin ground cables from the Control Panel
6. Unscrew the green and white leads from the Print Button Assembly
7. Unscrew the two green ground leads from the front body panel screw.
8. Reassemble the new Control Panel by reversing the above steps.
9. Adjust the backlight and character contrast if required, see 4.7.

Step 2 –Removing Ink Delivery System
1. Remove the Ink Cartridges.
2. Remove Front Body Panel by removing the single front retaining screws and two rear
screws securing the front body panel. (See Photos 2.0 and 2.1)

4. Remove the fixed end of the Tube Carrier from the Tube Carrier and Tube Bracket
(Photos 2.3 and 2.4)

5. Remove the Dampers from the Carriage and place the Dampers in a plastic sandwich
bag above the level of the Print Head to minimize leakage from the Dampers.
6. Unplug the cables to J1 and J2 from the Ink LED PCBA and the connector labeled PIN 1.

7. Remove the four 6-32 screws from the lower support of the Ink Delivery System. (Photo
2.8 and 2.9)

8. Remove the 6-32 screw from the upper bracket of the Ink Delivery System and the Back
Panel Screw. (Photo 2.11 and 2.12)

9. Slide the Ink Delivery System forward and out of the Main Chassis.
10. Reassemble the Ink Delivery System by reversing the removal steps.
Step 3 –Removing Maintenance Station
1. Remove the Waste Ink Tank
2. Release the Print head carriage and move it to the left, away from the Maintenance
Station. (See your operator’s manual)

3. Remove the waste ink tray underneath the Maintenance Station. (Photo 3.0 and 3.1)

4. Remove the Data cable and the power cable from the Axillary Pump Board and unplug
the 4 pin connector from the motor cable.(Photo 3.2)

5. Remove the screws labeled A1 and A2 in photo 3.3 below. Loosen the screw labeled A3.
This will allow you to pivot the circuit board to access and remove the screw behind A2,
and also remove screw holding ground wire with the short shaft Phillips head
screwdriver. (Photo 3.4)

6. The last remaining screws holding the Maintenance Station in are shown in the images
below. (Photos 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7)

7. The last step is to simply remove the Maintenance Station. Rotate the Maintenance
Station front end down, and then slide it out from underneath.
8. Install the new Maintenance Station by reversing the above steps.
