1.1 Safety Aspects
The System complies with:
•EN/IEC 60601-1 (2006)
•EN 60601–2–37 (2007)
•ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 (2005)
•CAN/CSA C22.2 No.601.1 (2008)
It fulfils the requirements for dust protection (IP20) for ordinary equipment specified in EN 60529.
The System is classified as follows:

1.1.1 Terms and Symbols
Throughout this manual the following terms are used to indicate a situation that requires
safety precautions:
WARNING
Describes precautions necessary to prevent (patient or user) injury or loss of life.
CAUTION
Describes precautions necessary to protect the scanner and other associated
equipment from harm.

Terminal connected to the chassis. Should be connected to corresponding
terminals on other equipment to eliminate potential differences.

Additional protective ground (earth).
Type CF
CF: Isolated from earth. Maximum Patient Leakage Current under:
•Normal Conditions: ≤10µA
•Single Fault Conditions: ≤50µA.
Type BF
BF: Isolated from ground.
Maximum Patient Leakage Current under:
•Normal Conditions: ≤100µA
•Single Fault Conditions: ≤500µA.

1.1.2 Warnings and Cautions
For your own and others safety carefully read the following:
Warnings:
•Opening the instrument can expose live parts.
•Any work done on the open instrument with power on must only be done by BK Medical or their
authorized representatives, who are aware of the hazards involved.
•Any repair on the system must be followed by an electrical safety test to verify a continuous
safe operation of the system.
•Use only the original mains cable. NEVER USE EXTENSION CABLES!
•The system contains a Lithium battery. This battery must not, under any circumstance, be
removed or replaced by the user as there is danger of explosion.
Personal Safety:
Be aware that service technicians may be at risk of infection due to contaminated equipment,
especially puncture guides/needles and transducers. The following precautions should be
taken:
•At the hospital – before working on or receiving any equipment – ask staff to sterilize
transducers and puncture guides. Consoles must be also disinfected. Hospital staff should
follow the recommendations in the Care and Cleaning Guide.
•Use gloves when working with equipment that may be contaminated, especially if you have
open wounds or scratches.
•Equipment that may be contaminated must be sterilized before being returned to a customer.
Follow the recommendations in the Transducer User Guide.
•Always wash your hands after working with the equipment.
•If you scratch yourself on contaminated equipment, immediately contact the hospital staff or
see a doctor.
Cautions:
•Always use the correct fuses.
•Switch off all equipment before connecting or disconnecting their interfaces. Failure to do so
could damage the equipment.
•The power supply cord is the means of connecting the system from the main power supply.

The 2300 product family of systems is comprised of 4 models:
•bk3000
•bk3500
•bk5000
•EB2300 (for OEM)
Except where otherwise noted, this manual refers to the generic (base) system.

on the bk3500.
1.2.1 System Configuration
The various models can be factory-configured with a variety of hardware and software
options (for example, Video In, ECG, or Battery Module).
Note:
Available options are model-specific. Refer to the relevant
Product Data Sheet
for details.
The type number of the 2300 system = Ref. Type 2300.
