1.1 Safety First
In addition to always following all local codes and regulations, remember to always
place wiring in such a way that it is distant from the natural curiosity of cows.
WARNING
Always follow all local codes and regulations when working with electricity and
on ladders.
1.2 Conventions Used in this Manual
This manual is written to help technicians install and help Farmers use the SenseHub™
System. The following conventions are used throughout:
NOTE
Note identifies information that is of interest or is important.
CAUTION
Caution identifies an item or items that may cause harm to equipment or data.
WARNING
Warning identifies an item or items that may cause personal injury or loss of
data.
There are currently several different Application Plans available for the SenseHub™
System:
•Starter – Reproduction
•Advanced – Health
•Premium – Group and Nutrition
Each higher plan includes the contents and capabilities of the one directly under it
NOTE
The manual describes all possible reports and graphs. The reports and graphs
available on the farm depend on the Application Plan enabled on the farm.
There are also currently two different payment plans:
•Go – Farms using this payment plan are paying a monthly fee per tag purchased
for the farm.
•Up – For this payment plan the tags are covered for 6 years for cSense Flex tags
and for 3 years for eSense Flex tags.

2.3 Installing the SenseHub™ Controller
The SenseHub™ Controller enables coverage of a large area. The SenseHub™ Controller
requires an Ethernet connection with an active DHCP Server that provides the
SenseHub™ Controller with an IP Address.
•The SenseHub™ Controller must be installed at least 3 Meters above ground or 1
Meter below the rafters when installed inside a building.
•Mount the SenseHub™ Controller on poles as pictured:
2.4 Site Survey
Installing the SenseHub™ System with HR LDn Tags requires a site survey. The site
survey will decide the best installation points unique for every farm.
1. Define the farm and the areas to be covered.
NOTE
The SENSEHUB™ System does not require any network connection when
performing a site survey.
2. The first attempt at placement.

SenseHub™ System Components and Installation
SenseHub Install Manual Ver 3.2.docx Page 6
a. The SenseHub™ Controller is connected to an RJ 45, Ethernet Cable
connected to a PoE Injector and hung at least 3 meters above the ground
and 1 meter below the rafters as indicated.
b. The RTD Test tag is then walked around the farm area at chest height and
a test signal, one press, is sent every 5 meters or so.
c. Keep pressing the button until the response, two quick blinks, is received.
Then release the button.
d. Repeat as needed.
3. In this configuration, there is coverage for the entire farm.
NOTE
When considering placement of the SenseHub™ Controller remember that it
must be placed within 100 linear meters from the Power over Ethernet, PoE,
power supply or injector.

2.4.1 SenseHub™ System Installation Best Practices
Follow these best practices for trouble free SenseHub™ System installations:
1. Complete coverage is important; overlap does not guarantee better coverage.
a. Correct implementation of the site survey is important. Use the site
survey to determine where best to place the SenseHub™ Controller so
there is maximum coverage with minimum overlap.
CAUTION
Pay close attention to the other Radio Frequency Equipment in use already on
the Farm, like WiFi and RFID. The SenseHub™ Controller must be mounted at
least 5 meters away from all other antenna/s.
2. WiFi in use on the farm has the potential to greatly interfere with the
SenseHub™ System.
a. WiFi and the SenseHub™ Controller use similar wavelengths. WiFi routers
on the farm should be configured to remain on the configured WiFi
channels 1 or 2, even after reboot. The configuration of the WiFi Router
must be checked and confirmed.
b. From the above diagram, we see that the default SenseHub™ Controller
channel of 19 will suffer greatly when the farm WiFi is set to channel 6, 7,
or 8. Channels 5 and 9 may also interfere with the Controller.
c. Channels 1 and 2 and 13 and 14 on the WiFi will not interfere with the
Controller.
d. When the WiFi Router in at the farm is using 802.11n the WiFi should be
configured to use channel 1 and the Controller configured to use channel
23, 24, 25, or 26.

SenseHub™ System Components and Installation
SenseHub Install Manual Ver 3.2.docx Page 8
e. After installation of any SenseHub™ System follow-up visits are needed to
confirm that all the cows are being identified and there is no interference
from other transmissions.
2.5 Installing the SenseHub™ Controller
Follow these steps carefully to correctly install the SenseHub™ Controller.
NOTE
Follow all local codes and ordinances and follow all safety rules when
connecting to grounded outlets and when working on ladders and/or at
heights.
Press the Return to Default button on the bottom of the SenseHub™ Controller or the
SenseHub™ Antenna continuously for 10 seconds to return the Controller or Antenna to
the default network configuration of DHCP.
WARNING
When installing the SenseHub™ Controller or the SenseHub™ Antenna always
make sure that the rubber gaskets covering and sealing the Test Port and the
USB Port remain tightly in place.

2.5.1 Controller Installation
After performing a site survey follow these steps to safely install a single SenseHub™
Controller.
1. Establish the location for the Power over Ethernet, PoE, Injector. Install the
Injector must be placed no more than 100 linear meters from the router
providing the Ethernet network for the farm.
NOTE
When the correct location for the SenseHub Controller is more than 100 linear
meters from the router, see page 16 for installation instructions.
2. Smartly run the Ethernet Cable from the PoE Injector to the position of the
Controller.
NOTE
The maximum length of Ethernet cable possible between any two components
is 100 meters.
3. Connect the Controller Bracket as shown. The thumbscrew is on the bottom and
the two pins on the sides are toward the top.
