andfiberv-groovesurface.
6.Thesplicingthemachinemustbehandledgentlytoavoidstrongvibrationorimpact,and

A complete splice
Afullfiberspliceprocedureincluding:thefiberendfacepreparation,fibersplicing,tension
test,heatingandcoolingofshrinktube.Thischapterwillintroducedetailsofthespecific
processofthefibersplice.
Pressandholdthepowerbuttonuntilthepowerindicatorlight,then,LCDalsoenterthe
self-testscreen.
Preparetwoopticalfibers,asshowninFigure3.2,inwhichanopticalfiberissetintotheheat
shrinktube.

AsshowninFigure3.3,clenchedfibercleaver,placethefiberintothetoothoftheclampsby
thelefthand,reservebarefiber30to40mmstrippedfibercoating.Useacottonballdipped
inanhydrousalcohol(purity>99%)wipeopticalfibercoatinglayerthatresidualdebris,Figure
3.4shows.
Putthecleanedfiberintothecutterpositionedgroove,theedgealignmentofthefiber
coatingcutterruler“13”scaleoutside(thescaleisgreaterthan13,showninFigure3.4).Close
smallplaten,requiringthatthebarefiberstraightontheleftandrightrubberonthechop-
pingblock.Togetherwithclosethelargeplate,andpushthecutterbladeslidertotheother
endtocutoffthefiber.
AfterCutting,openthelargeplatentotakeawaycuttingbrokenfiberintothewastefiber
storagebox.(Brokenfiberhasagreatharmtohumanhealth,so,pleasebesuretocollectand
chopbrokenfiber).Openthesmallplaten,andcarefullytakeoutthecutendfacefiber.Donʼt
makethefibercrosssectiontouchinganyotherobjects,toavoiddamageorcontamination
endface.

Openthewindproofcoverandthetwosidefiberplatens,then,putthepreparedfiberinto
V-groovethroughthelocatingslot.Makesurethatthefiberendfaceshouldbelocated
betweentheV-grooveedgeandtwoelectrodes.
ShowninFigure3.5
Pleaseoperatecarefullyanddonʼtletthefiberendfacetouchanyotherobject.Thenclose
thelargeplatentofixopticalfiber,whichshouldbeplacedhorizontallyintheV-groove,
withoutupturnedphenomenon.Ifclampingfailed,youcanliftfibercarefullyandrepeatthe
operationaboveuntilthefiberclampingisqualified.
Similarly,prepareandclamptheotheropticalfiber.
Then,closethewindproofandcontinuetoobservetheamplifiedfiberfromthedisplay.Ifthe
fiberendfaceisuneven,tiltordamaged,youneedtoremovethefibertocutagain.

First,selectthefusionparametergroupaccordingtotheopticalfibertype.Press“MENU”to
enterthemainmenu,andthenselectthe“parameters”iconandpressthe“confirm”keyto
enterthemenu.Weneedtoselectafusionparametergroupmatchedwithsplicefibertype.
ItissuggestedtochooseSM8.
Press"SET"tostartthesplicingprocedure.Themachinedrivesthemotor,whichwillpromote
bothsidesoffiberstothemiddleofthescreen,judgingthefiberendfacewhethermeetthe
requirements.Ifqualified,turntothenextprocess,otherwiseshowatipofbadendfaceand
stop.
Afterjudgment,thealignmentmotorwilladjustfiberPositiontomakebothsidesoffibers
aligninthree-dimensional.Atlast,theelectrodedischargearctofusefiber.Whenfusionis
completed,themachinewillgivethelossestimates,andhaveatensiontestifneeded.
Heat-shrinkable
Theopticalfiberfusionpointisreallyfragileandeasilybroken,so,youneedprotectionby
usingheatshrinkable.Openthewindproofcover,largeplatenandheatercover.Gently
removefiber,anddonʼtbendfibergreatlytoavoidthefusionpointbroken.

Moveheatshrinkabletubingtothefusionpoint,whichmustbeinthemiddle.Then,place
heatshrinkabletubinginthemiddleoftheheatingfurnace.Theheaterbeginsheatingas
soonasheatingfurnaceclosed.About34secondslater,heatingshrinkinghasbeen
completed.Thefigurebelowistheheatshrinktubingbeforethermalshrinkageandafter
thermalshrinkage.
Cooling
Theheatshrinkabletubingafterheatingatinahightemperature,andneedcooling.Hangthe
coolingtrayonthecarryinghandle.So,afterheating,pulloutthefiberfromtheheating
furnacetothecoolingtraybyhands.About1minutelater,itcoolstotheordinarytemperature.
ThemachineadoptsMETRO-stylemenu,whoseinterfaceissimple,beautifuland
convenienceforoperation.Theoperationinterfacehas8icons,andeachiconcorresponds
toadifferentfunctionalmenu.

button,andthemachinewillbeginsplicingopticalfiber.Selectthemenubutton,andpressthekey
theparametervalueswillswitchbetween"automatic"and"manual".
Suspend1Whenfibersplicing,fiberadvancingtomeetthegapconditions,theprogrampauses,
waitingforthefurtheroperationoftheuser.Forcontinuetosplicing,press"SET"button.Tointerrupt
splicing,pressthe"RESET"button.
Suspend2 Fibersuspendtherunningattheendofthesubsequentprocessofaligning.
ResettimeAfterafibersplicing,toprepareforthenextsplice,propulsionmotorsneedtoberesetto
thereferenceposition.Fibersplicingcompleted,openthewindscreen,oversometimetowaitfor
