CAUTION: Please read this manual thoroughly before using the
device!
1. Warnings and safety
• Because the device generates heat when used, it needs to be positioned
in a well-ventilated place, so it should not be put in a concealed space,
such as a cupboard. KEEP THE VENTILATION SLATS FREE AT ALL TIMES.
These can be found on the top and underside of the device.
• Do not place the device on a soft surface or furnishings (e.g. carpet or
fabric) or next to curtains.
• TO PREVENT FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCKS, THE DEVICE MUST NOT BE
EXPOSED TO RAIN OR HUMIDITY.
• For your own safety: to prevent electric shocks do not remove the
housing. Do not try to repair any malfunctioning parts of the device
yourself. Ask a professional expert to do this for you.
• When plugged into the mains, the device remains electrically charged
even when switched off.
• Pull the plug out of the wall socket whenever the device is not being used
for longer periods. Hold the plug to do this, not the cable.

Thank you for entrusting us with your confidence in our product and
congratulations on choosing to buy the ART 2.4 music distribution system.
The device enables you to listen to your favourite music in four different
zones of a home, office or restaurant. The device and its controls can be
used independently, but also controlled, for example, by a home
automation system (domotics).
Additional copies of this manual can be requested or downloaded from the
website at www.artsound.be Always keep this manual with the product.

5. Installation
To install correctly follow the steps listed below.
5.1 Positioning
•Ensure that the ART 2.4 is positioned in a well-ventilated place and
that all ventilation slats are free.
•Observe all statutory regulations.
•Position the device centrally, so that distance to the wireless controls
is minimised.
•All loudspeakers are brought to the central unit the ART 1.4 from the
various zones. This so-called star shape is an absolute necessity.
•The optional wall-mounted transmitters are wireless. For optimum
installation and functioning, consult the documentation supplied.

5.2 Connection to an external audio source
An external sound source can be connected to the ‘Audio in’ input of the
ART 1.4 via a quality cinch interconnect cable (e.g. Oehlbach). Observe the
correct colours (white/red or Left/Right).
The input amplification can be adjusted by means of a button. (Fig1–5). In
most cases this button is set to the middle setting.
TIP: use the “tape-out” or “pre-out” connection on the amplifier and
connect this to the audio input of the ART 2.4 in order to listen to the music
selected on your amplifier in 4 other zones.
5.3 Connecting the loudspeakers.
2 loudspeakers can be connected in each zone, namely, left and right.
Ensure that the polarity of the loudspeaker is correct:
Connect the red terminal onto the + of the loudspeaker.
Connect the black terminal onto the - of the loudspeaker.
The loudspeaker can be of the 4 or 8 ohm type.
5.4 Connecting the RF aerial.
The RF aerial receive commands from the wireless controls. In order to
optimise reception, it’s important to follow the guidelines below:
•The aerial can be attached directly to the ‘RF’ connector
(Fig1-1).

•If the dimensions of the unit prevent this or in order to improve
reception, you can opt to use the square BNC connector. Twist
the aerial to optimise reception.
CAUTION
•If the ART 1.4 is positioned in a metal container or cage (e.g.
reinforced concrete), the RF aerial must be positioned outside
this container. Only use a quality COAX cable of 50 ohm to
extend the aerial connection. To restrict loss in the cable, the
maximum length of the COAX cable should be 10m. Your
technician will be glad to provide you with advice on this. E.g.
Oehlbach AK2002
5.5 FM aerial :
You can use the FM aerial supplied. Plug this into the connector intended
for this purpose (Fig 1-4)
5.6 Configuration of the device with one or more RF remote
controls
To operate the ART 2.4 with the RF handheld transmitter on its own,
proceed as follows in order for the ART 2.4 to identify the hand
transmitter:
•Hold down the set-up button for about 3
seconds until the LEDs start to flash in all
zones.
•The device is now ready to read in the
address of the remote control.

•Press on the ‘Zone 1 – button‘ on the remote
control. The appropriate LED lights up.
•Next, press on the key with number 1.
•The zone LEDs will start to flash temporarily.
This is to confirm that the remote control has
been read in.
•If the installation is equipped with several
remotes: take the next remote control and
press once again on the ‘Zone 1 – button’;
next press the key with number 1. Repeat
this untill all remotes have been read in.
•Hold down the set-up button for approx. 3
seconds, until the LED for zone 1 lights up
continuously. The remote control can now be
used to operate the system.
5.7 Configuration for use with one or more RF handheld
transmitter and RF wall-mounted transmitters
To operate the ART2.4 with the RF handheld transmitter and the RF wall-
mounted transmitter, proceed as follows:
First, ensure that all loudspeakers are connected, as well as an
active sound source on the audio-input.
STEP 1
•Hold down the set-up button for approx. 3
seconds until all LEDs start to flash.
•The device is now ready to read in the
address of the remote control
•Press on the ‘Zone 1 – button‘ on the
remote control. The appropriate LED lights
up.
•Next, press on the key with number 1. The
zone LEDs will start to flash temporarily. This
is to confirm that the remote control has
been read in.
•

•If the installation is equipped with several remotes: take the next
remote control and press once again on the ‘Zone 1 – button’; next
press the key with number 1. Repeat this untill all remotes have
been read in (max. 4 !)
•Press the set-up button briefly.
•Only the LED for zone 1 (ART1.4) will slowly
start to flash, indicating that zone 1 is ready
to read in the address of the wall-mounted
transmitter intended for Zone 1.
STEP 2
•Take the wall-mounted transmitter for Zone 1 and
press the AUX button. The LED for zone 1 will start
flashing briefly, indicating that the address of this
wall-mounted transmitter has been read in. If
several wall-mounted transmitters are used within the same zone: take
the next wall-mounted transmitter and press its AUX button.
•Now press on the set-up button again briefly. The
LED for zone 1 will start to flash twice as quickly.
The device is now ready to read in the maximum
volume for zone 1. The audio signal on the AUX
input is now audible at 50%.
•You can now regulate the maximum volume for this
zone by pressing the volume higher or volume
lower buttons.
•Now press on the set-up button again briefly.
•The LED for zone 2 will start to flash slowly. The
device is now ready to read in the address of the
wall-mounted transmitter for this zone. Return to
STEP 2 and do the same for the wall-mounted
transmitters for the other zones.
•When all wall-mounted transmitters have been
read in (max. 4), hold down the set-up button for
approx. 3 seconds to leave set-up (no LED will be
flashing in this event). The system is now ready to use.

5.8 Deleting programmed function from the memory
There is a possibility to delete all programmed controls (remotes and wall
mounted transmitters) from the memory. This is done as follows:
•Remove the plug from the mains socket.
•Set the switch on the front to ON.
•Press the set-up button and hold this in whilst inserting the plug
back in the mains socket. Hold the button down for at least 6
seconds.
All the addresses of the controls, are now deleted and the configuration of
these functions can be repeated, as described in sections 5.5 and 5.6.
6 Using the system
Before the ART 2.4 can be used it must be correctly installed. See section
5 for this.
6.7 The LED displays
•Green LED (integrated in on/off button): device working
•Temp LED (red):
oFlashing: the device is too warm. Ensure good ventilation and
if necessary, reduce the volume in the zones.
oThe red LED says lit: The device is in heat protection mode.
Turn the device off to allow it to cool down. Ensure there is
enough ventilation. The device can be used again when it has
cooled down sufficiently.
•Zone LEDs: these light up blue when a zone is activated
6.8 Using the RF handheld transmitter.
1. Select the zone for which you which to
change the audio settings.
2. Select a radio preset (1-6)
3. Search the next of the previous strong
radio signal
4. Select the external audio source

6. Press in Store key, followed by the
preset no. (1-6) to store the radio
station.
6.9 Using the RF wall-mounted transmitter
1. Select external audio source (AUX)
2. Select a radio preset (1-4)
3. Zone out
4. Volume higher – lower

6.4 ‘Party mode’
The so-called party-mode enables zones 2 to 4 to be linked to zone 1. In
this way it is possible to turn two or more zones into a single zone. The
individual controls for the connected zones therefore work for these
connected zones. In this way, it is possible to create the same mood in all
the different zones in your home.
E.g. if zone 2 is linked to zone 1, raising the volume in zone 2 will raise the
volume in zone 1 and vice-versa.
How to switch on the party-mode?
° Press briefly on the AUX button of the control which
you would like to put into party mode (zone 2..4) in
order to turn the zone on.
° Keep the AUX button pressed in, until the music in this
zone briefly disappears (approx. 5 sec).
° This zone is now connected to zone 1
How to switch off the party-mode?
Turning the party-mode off is identical to turning it on (see above).
7. Warranty conditions
2 year warranty from the date of manufacture.
The warranty is limited to the repair of replacement of the defective
material insofar as this defect is a result of normal use and the device has
not been damaged.
