Troubleshooting - Sound problems
Sound problems for ASUS Notebooks
If you experience sound problems with your ASUS Notebook, please refer to the solutions
below:
Run the Audio Troubleshooter
For help fixing audio problems, try running the audio troubleshooter.
To run the troubleshooter, select Start , type "audio troubleshooter", and then select Find
and fix audio playback problems from the list of results and select Next.

Check Device Manager
Check whether the Device Manager is normally working or appears with an exclamation mark
a. Open Start , type Device Manager
b. Check whether it appears with the exclamation mark
c. If you see an exclamation mark, select and open your sound card, select the Driver tab and
select Update Driver. You can also download the latest audio driver from the ASUS Official
Site to install it. Please refer to the FAQ How to search the driver for ASUS product?

Check the Volume
Check whether the status of speaker is on "mute"
a. Click the "volume" icon at the right bottom corner of the desktop toolbar
b. Check if its set to "mute".
c. Test the volume by raising the volume slider.

Set default device
Check the playback device
If you're connecting to an audio device using USB or HDMI, you might need to set that device as
the default.
Open Start , type Sound, select it from the list of results. On the Playback tab, select a
device, then Set Default.

Check if there is any external device connected to the headphone jack as the system will apply
the default settings to the external device, instead of the built-in speaker.

Microphone function
Check that the microphone is not covered by anything. Normally, the microphone is located on
either side of the laptop camera. (In N46VM's case, the microphone is located at the left side of
the laptop camera.)
Adjust the volume of microphone
a. Open Start , type Sound
b. Choose "Recording " -> Microphone, Click the right button of mouse and choose
Properties

c. Choose Levels to adjust the microphone volume and confirm the microphone is not on Mute.
