1Locking and unlocking the vehicle · Variable soft top storage box
Locking and unlocking the vehicle
The central locking system locks and unlocks all the
doors, the boot lid and the tank flap. It can be
operated with the remote control or by
turning the key in the lock.
Remote control keys
Press the appropriate button for about 1 second.
eUnlocking button: Open one of the doors within
about 60 seconds, otherwise the vehicle will lock itself
again automatically.
rUnlocking button for boot lid:
Press the button for at least 1 second.
tLocking button: The turn signals flash once to
confirm that the doors and boot lid are properly
closed and locked.
uFolding out the master key:
Press the release button.
Folding in the master key:
Press the button and fold in the key.
WARNING!
The doors and windows cannot be opened from
inside the vehicle if it has been locked from the
outside.
Anti-theft alarm
The alarm system is automatically set when you lock
the car, and switched off when you unlock the car
with the remote control. If you unlock the vehicle by
inserting the key in the driver’s door, the ignition
must be switched on within 15 seconds, otherwise
the alarm will be triggered.

Variable soft top storage box
The storage box can be raised in order to extend the luggage compartment.
To raise the storage box: Slide the operating lever to position A.
To lower the storage box: Slide the operating lever to position B.
Note:
The lever for raising/lowering the variable soft top storage
box can only be operated when the soft top is closed.
Convenience features
Opening windows with remote control key: To open
the windows first press button eand then turn the
key to the right in the driver’s door lock and hold it in
this position (applies to RHD vehicles).
Closing windows with remote control key:
Turn the key to the left in the driver’s door lock and
hold it in this position (applies to RHD vehicles).
Opening/closing soft top with remote control key:
To open, press button eand briefly turn the key to
the right in the driver’s door lock. Then, within 2
seconds, turn the key to the right again and hold it in
this position (RHD vehicles). To close, briefly turn the
key to the left in the driver’s door lock. Then, within
2 seconds, turn the key to the left again and hold it
in this position (RHD vehicles).

Safety of children in the vehicle
Children under 12 should travel
on the rear seat. They must be
protected by a child restraint
system which complies with the
European standard ECE-R 44 and is
suitable for the child’s height and weight.
The safest place for the child restraint system
is behind the front passenger’s seat.
Adjust seat and sit in correct position
The front seats should not be positioned too
close to the steering wheel or dashboard.
Maintain a distance of at least 25 cm and sit in
a normal upright position. The top of the head
restraint should be at eye level or higher.
Always keep your feet in the footwell.

eAdjusting head restraints
Raising head restraint:
Take hold of the sides of the head
restraint with both hands and move it up as required.
Lowering head restraint:
Press the button on the side of the
head restraint and move the head restraint as required.
rUnlocking the backrest
Lift the lever and fold the backrest down/
return it to its upright position.
tAdjusting angle of backrest
Lean forwards and turn adjuster wheel.
uAdjusting lumbar support
Press appropriate part of the switch.
iAdjusting seat height
Lift or press the lever repeatedly until
the seat reaches the desired height.
oAdjusting seat angle
Lift or press the lever repeatedly until
the seat reaches the desired height.
pAdjusting seat cushion
Lift the button and move the seat cushion.
aMoving seat backwards or forwards
Lift the lever and move the seat into the desired position.
Then release the lever and move the seat further until the catch engages.

Wear the seat belt correctly
Make sure that the shoulder section of
the belt is positioned over the centre of
the shoulder and move the lap section
as far down over the hips as possible.
The belts should always be worn so
that they fit tightly
(see illustration).
Roll-over bars
The roll-over bars provide a further safety system for all
vehicle occupants, in addition to the seat belts and air-
bags. The roll-over bars are located behind the head
restraints for the rear seats. Never store or secure any
objects in the area behind the rear head restraints.
Safety
Seat belts must be worn on every journey, even on short trips in town. This
applies to the front and rear seats. To ensure that the seat belts, belt
tensioners and airbags are fully effective, please note the following points:

Press the button until the display is reset to zero.
pButton for service indicator
Press the button briefly when the vehicle is stationary
and the ignition is switched on. A service reminder
appears briefly if a service inspection is due in the
near future.

Press button with ignition switched off.
pCalling up driver messages again
Press button briefly when warning symbol appears.
pSetting speed warning 1
Press button briefly when desired speed is reached.
To cancel: press button for at least 1 second while
vehicle is moving.

Filling the tank
Opening the tank flap
Open the tank flap by pressing it in the direction
indicated by the arrow. Unscrew the tank cap
and hook it onto the flap
(see illustration).
Fuel grade
The correct fuel grade for your vehicle
is shown on the inside of the tank flap.
Note:
The sticker listing the tyre pressures
is located on the front passenger’s door pillar.

contact a qualified workshop without delay.
Warning symbols and auto-check control
Any faults which may occur are indicated by red or yellow symbols in
the instrument cluster display.

If one of the red symbols lights up while you are driving, stop the car,
switch off the engine and refer to the Owner’s Manual.

Turn the adjuster to the position for the
left or right exterior mirror. Press the
adjuster to move the mirror surface in the
desired direction.
Note:
At low outside temperatures, the
mirrors are heated automatically when the
rear window heating is switched on.

as some symbols are automatically accompanied by a corresponding
message, which is shown in the display for about 5 seconds. Please
refer to the Owner’s Manual for an explanation of the symbols for
which no message appears in the display.

If required, you can call up a message again by briefly pressing
the button.

[33] Lever for adjustable
steering column
Push lever down and adjust position
of the steering column as required.
Then push the lever back up.

When the light switch is set to AUTO,
the dipped beam headlights will be
switched on and off automatically
according to the outside light
conditions (only on vehicles
with a light sensor).

In fog, turn switch to dipped head-
lights position and then pull out to
1st stop (ifront fog lights) or to
2nd stop (ofront and rear fog lights).

rAir recirculation (circulates and filters the air in the interior
of the vehicle)

Note:
The air conditioner settings are stored and assigned to
the remote control key, taking into account whether the soft top
is open or closed. When the vehicle is started again the stored
settings will automatically be recalled.

To move the selector lever out of position Por N,
or into position Por R, press the interlock button
on the selector lever handle and the brake pedal
simultaneously.
Note:
Use the foot brake to hold the vehicle when
stationary with the engine running (in all selector
lever positions other than P).
Manual gear selection (tiptronic)
The tiptronic program enables you to change gear manually. Move the selector lever out of
position Dinto the tiptronic gate on the right. Press the selector lever forwards briefly to
shift up a gear, or push the lever back to shift down a gear.
WARNING!
Do not move the selector lever to positions P or R
when the vehicle is moving.
Windbreak
Installing:
Take the windbreak out of the bag (in luggage
compartment) and fold the two side sections
outwards.
Pull out the two retainer pegs A
and hold the windbreak in a
horizontal position against the
backrest upholstery. Slide the
two retainer pegs Aall the way
into the mountings.
Press the release catches B
(on left and right) and slide the
locking pins into the mounting
holes Cat the sides.
Fold up the vertical section of
the windbreak so that it engages in the upright
position.
Removing:
Proceed in the reverse sequence of the installation
described above.

RESET/selector button
Press the RESET button Crepeatedly to switch between the informa-
tion supplied by the on-board computer, the navigation system and
the menu display. Use rocker switch Bto highlight a menu function
(e.g. tyre pressure). Then activate the function by pressing the RESET
button C.
[29] Soft top control switch
Opening the soft top
Pull up and hold the switch until the soft top is fully open.
Closing the soft top
Press and hold the switch until the soft top is completely closed.
Notes:
If the control switch is released during the opening/closing
operation, the soft top will stop moving. The soft top is completely
open/closed when the warning lamp in the instrument cluster goes out. The soft top can
only be opened or closed when the ignition is switched on. For information on how to
open/close the soft top manually please refer to the Owner’s Manual.
