Cold rang e
If o nly the LEDs in the left area of the ga uge turn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem-
perature yet. Avoid high engine speeds, full ac-
celerating and heavy engine loads .
Normal range
The engine has reached its operating tempera-
ture once the LEDs up to the center of the gauge
turn on under norma l driving conditions . The
LEDsfarther to the right may turn on if the en-
gine is under heavy load or the outside tempera-
ture is high. This is no cause for concern as long

as the . indicator light in the Infotainment d is-
play does not turn on. If the red LED in the rig ht
s ide of the display and the . indicator light in
the d isplay turn on, the coolant temperature is
too high i=>page 12 .
(D Note
- Auxiliary headlights and ot her accessories in
front of the cooling-air intake impa ir t he
cooling effect of the coolant . This increases
the risk of the engine overheating dur ing
high outs ide temperatures and heavy en-
gine load .
- The f ront spoiler also helps to distribute
cooling air correctly while driving. If the
spoiler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the eng ine over-
heating will increase . See an authorized
Audi dealer or author ized Audi Se rvice Fa-
cility for assistance.
Fuel level
The ind icator @ on ly func t ions when t he ignition
is sw itched on. If the fuel level drops below 1.9
gal (7 L), the left LEDwill light up red and the ~ ...

indicator light will turn on <=>page 16. The bot-
tom LEDblinks red when the fuel level is very
low.
The fuel tank capacity of your vehicle is listed in
the Technical Data section <=>page 301.
(D Note
Never drive until the tank is completely emp-
ty. The irregular supply of fuel that results
from that can cause engine misfires. Uncom-
busted fuel will then enter the exhaust sys-
tem. This can cause overheating and damage
to the catalytic converter.
Indicator Lights
Description
The indicator lights in the instrument cluster
blink or turn on. They indicate functions or mal-
functions.
With some indicator lights , messages may ap-
pear and warning signals may sound. The indica-
tor lights and messages in the display can be cov-
ered by other displays. To show them again, se-
lect the tab for the indicator lights and messages
using the multifunction steering wheel
<=>page 19. If there are several malfunctions,
you can display them one at a time using the
thumbwheel.
Some indicators lights in the display can turn on
in several colors .
Overview
Some indicator lights turn on briefly as a function
check when you switch the ignition on . These sys-
tems are marked with a./ in the following tables .
If one of these indicator lights does not turn on,
there is a malfunction in that system.

There is a malfunction in the alternator or the ve-
hicle elect rical system.
Drive to an autho rized Audi dealer or aut horized
Audi Service Facility immediately. Turn off all un-
necessary electr ical equ ipment because it will
drain the batte ry. See your authorized Audi deal-
er or authori zed Audi Service Facility if the bat-
tery charge level is too low.
(•) Electrical system: low battery charge. Please
turn on ignition
The sta rting ability may be impaired.
If t his message turns off afte r a litt le while , the
battery charged enoug h while driving.
If the message does not turn off, have and au-
thor ized Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service
Facility repair t he malfunc t ion.

More force is needed to steer and brake the mov-

hicle is rolling, tr y to bring it to a stop off to th e
side from moving traffic. See an author ized Audi
dealer or author ized Audi Service Facility for as-
sistance.
A_ WARNING -
If the engine st ops while driving, you will
need to use more force to brake the vehicle.
This increases t he risk of an accident. There
will still be power stee ring if the ignition is
switched on while the vehicle is rolling and
the re is suff icient battery charge. Otherwise,
you must use greater force when st eering.
~ Front safety belt

Brake pads!
If the warning light turns on, immediately con-
tact your authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility to have all brake pads in-
spected . Both sets of brake pads on an axle must
always be replaced at the same time .
A WARNING
Driving with bad brakes can cause a collision
and serious personal injury.

immediately contact your authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility to
have all brake pads checked or replaced if

cator light monitors the safety systems.
Safety system
If the II (USA models)/ m(Canada models) in-
dicator light turns on or blinks, there is a mal-
function in a safety system.
Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility immediately to have the
malfunction corrected.
A WARNING -
Have the safety systems inspected immedi-
ately. Otherwise, there is a risk that the sys-
tems may not activate during a collision,
which increases the risk of serious injury or
death .

o Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is part of
the On Board Diagnostic system (OBD II) . The
¢4c;ymbol turns on when the ignition is switched
on and turns off again once the engine is started
and running at a steady idle speed. This indicates
that the MIL is functioning correctly.
The indicator light turns on if there is a malfunc-
tion in the engine electronics. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility to
have the malfunction corrected .

!?i Engine speed limitation
Applies to vehicles w ith engine speed lim itation
(PlMaximum engine speed: XXXX rpm
The engine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the driver information system.
This protects the engine from overheating.
The engine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature
range and you have released the accelerator ped-
al once.
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine control malfunction, the II indicator
light also turns on. Make sure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam-
ple when downshifting. Drive to an authorized
Audi dealer or authori zed Audi Service Facility im-
mediately to have the malfunction corrected.

The low beams remain switched on at all times
for safety reasons when the light switch is in the

lights on and off using the light switch. You can
still control all wiper functions that are inde-
pendent of the rain sensor.

Applies to: vehicles wit h rear safety belt detection
The respective indicator light will turn on briefly
when a safety belt on the rear seats is fastened
or unfastened.
f!I-If this indicator light turns on briefly, the
safety belt on the rear seat is not fastened.
II- If this indicator light turns on briefly, the
safety belt on the rear seat was fastened .
• - If this indicator light blinks, the safety belt
was unfastened while driving . Above a certain
speed, there will also be a warning tone.

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
The malfunction indicator lamp (Mil) l&Iin the
instrument cluster is part of the On Board Diag-
nostic System (OBD II) .
The warning/indicator light turns on when the ig-
nition is switched on and turns off once the en -
gine is started and is running in idle at a stable
speed . This indicates that the MIL is functioning
correctly.
If the light does not turn off after starting the
engine or turns on while driving, this may indi-
cate there is a malfunction in the engine . If the
indicator turns on, the catalytic converter may be
damaged . ..,.

Drive with reduced engine performance (avoid
high speeds for extended periods of time and/ or
fast acceleration) and have the malfunction cor-
rected. See an authorized Audi dealer or author-
ized Audi Service Facility.
The indicator may turn on if the electronic speed
lim iter is fau lty . For additional information, refer
to c>page 75, Electronic speed limiter.
On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the components
of your emission control system. Each monitored

component in your engine system has been as-
signed a code . In case of a malfunction, the com-
ponent will be ident ified and the fault stored as a
code in the control module memory.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery system.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the st or-
ed data can only be displayed using spec ial d iag-
nostic equipment (generic scan tool for OBD).
In orde r to connect the special d iagnost ic equip-
ment, push the plug into the Data Link Connector
(DLC).The DLCis located to the right of the hood
release c>fig. 4.
Your authorized Audi dea ler or a qua lified service
station can interpret the code and perform the
necessary repair .
& WARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for per-
sonal use. Incorrect usage can cause malfunc -
tions, which can increase the risk of a colli-
sion!
