YOUR“ANTI-CODEGRABBING“TRANSMITTERS:
Thetransmitters included withyour new remotestart systemuse the mostadvanced and
secureform ofradio frequency transmission available onany currentautomotive remote
system.Someoftoday’ssophisticated auto thievesuse adevice known asa code grabber,
whichwill receive andstorethe signal fromyourkeychain transmitter, and re-transmitat a
latertimetodisarm your system.
Youranti-codegrabbingtransmitters willchangetheirsignaleverytimethebuttonis pressed,
sowhen athief grabs then re-transmits yoursignal, thealarm system
willnot respond.
If your transmitter button is pressed more than fifty times while it is out of range of the
vehicle( children playingwith your keys), the transmitterwillnot operatewhenyou return
to the vehicle, and will need to be re-aligned to the receiver. To do this, simply press the
Lock/Unlockbutton two times withinaonesecondtimeperiod.Thesystemwillnow respond
tothattransmitter each timeabutton is pressed.
ARMINGTHE SYSTEM- ACTIVE:
1.Turn the engineoff, exit thevehicle, and closeall doors, hoodandtrunk.
2.Pressand release the Arm/Disarmbuttonofyour key chaintransmitteronetime.
Theparking lights willflashonce, the sirenwill chirp once,andthe dash mountedLED will
begin to flash slowly confirming the system is armed. If you have the optional door lock/
unlockcircuit installed, thedoorswill lock.
Note: Ifthesiren chirped three times,thenyou have left adoor, hood, ortrunkajar. Simply
closing that opening will provide full protection. If your vehicle has delayed interior
lighting,youmayalso get three chirpswhenarming. Oncethelight turns off, youwill
hearone chirp confirming full arming. If thesirendidnotsoundwhenarming,thenthe
chirps have been turned off. Refer to the section on "Eliminating the Arm/Disarm
Chirps"shownlater in thismanual.

unlockcircuit installed, thedoorswill lock.
Note: Ifthe siren chirpsthree times, thenyouhave left adoor,hood, or trunkajar. Simply
closingthat openingwill provide full protection. Ifyour vehiclehas delayed interior
lighting,youmayalsogetthreechirpswhenarming. Once the light turns off, youwill
hearonechirpconfirming full arming.
ARMINGTHE SYSTEM -PASSIVE (AUTOMATIC)
Ifthe passive armingfeaturehas been selected:
1.Turn the engineoff, exit thevehicle, and closeall doors, hoodandtrunk.
The dash mounted LED will begin to flash rapidly indicating that the 30 second passive
armingtimer has begun. If the LED does not begin to flashrapidly,thenyouhaveleftadoor,
hood,ortrunkajar. Closing this entry point will allow the arming cycle will begin. If any entry
point is opened during the 30 second arming cycle, arming will be suspended. When all

entrypoints are closed,thearming cycle willbegin again.
Attheend of the30 seconds, theparkinglights will flashonce,the siren willchirponce, and
thedashmountedLED will beginto flashslowlyconfirmingthe system is armed. Ifthesiren
did not sound when arming, then the chirps have been turned off. Refer to the section on
"Eliminatingthe Arm/DisarmChirps" shown later in thismanual. Passive doorlocking is a
selectablefeature. If you have theoptionaldoorlock/unlockcircuitinstalled,thedoorsmayor
maynotlockpassivelydepending upon the setup duringinstallation.
PROTECTIONWHILETHESYSTEMISARMED:
Opening any protected entry point, hood, trunk, or doors will cause the alarm to trigger
immediately. The siren willsoundand the parkinglightswill flash for30 seconds, thenstop
andcontinuetomonitorall protected entry points. If the thief left the door opened, the unit will
soundfor six30 secondcycles thenshut down,isolate thetriggered zoneand continueto
protectall other zones.
Wheneverthe systemis armed, the dash mountedLED willslowly flash. Thisserves as a
visualdeterrent to a potential thief. This LED is a verylowcurrentlightemittingdiode,andwill
notcause the batteryto draineven if leftunattended for long periods oftime.
Whenever the system is triggered, the vehicle's parking lights will flash for the full siren
soundingperiod. Optional -wheneverthe system istriggered,the interiorcourtesylight will
flashfor the full siren soundingperiod.
Wheneverthesystemis armed, the vehiclestarter circuitisdisabled,andthe vehicle will not
startwith the ignitionkey.
Whenever the system is armed, any strong impact to the vehicle will cause the shock
detectortotrigger the alarm. Anylesserimpact will causethepre-detectstage of theshock
sensor to emit a few short series of warning tones from the siren.
DISARMINGTHESYSTEM
As you approach the vehicle, press and release the Arm/Disarm button on the keychain
transmitter.
Theparking lights willflashtwo times, thesiren will chirptwice, and thedashmounted LED
will turn off.
Ifyouhavethe optional door lock/unlock circuit installed, the doors will unlock. If you have the
optionalentryilluminationcircuit installed, theinteriorlightwill turn on for30secondsor until
theignition key isswitched on.
Note: Ifthe passive arming mode wasselectedattimeofinstallation,thedashmountedLED
willstartflashingrapidlyindicating that the system isrearming. Opening anydoorwill
suspendthe automatic arming.
Iftheparkinglightsflashedthreetimes, and the siren chirpsfour times,this indicatesthat the
alarmsystem was triggered during yourabsence. Beforeturningontheignitionkey,examine
thedashmounted LED's flashpattern. Thenumber of flashesidentifiesthetriggered zone.
Foradditionalinformation,refertoINTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNALSfoundlaterinthismanual.
If the siren did not sound upon disarm, then the chirps have been turned off. Refer to the
sectiontitledELIMINATINGTHEARM/DISARMCHIRPS.
Note: Iftheoptional2stepdoorunlockcircuitisinstalled,whentheunlocktransmitterbutton
isactivated, the drivers door only will unlock, pressing the unlock button a second time
willcause alldoors tounlock. If yourtransmitter hasa speratelock unlockbuttons,
pressingthe unlockbutton anytime afterthe firstunlock command will cause allthe
vehicledoorsto unlock.

SILENTDISARMING
1. Asyou approachthe vehicle, press and hold the Arm/Disarm buttonof yourkey chain
transmitter for two seconds.
Theparkinglightswillflashtwice,andthedashmountedLEDwill turn off confirming that the
systemisdisarmed. Thesirenwillnotchirp. Ifyouhavetheoptionaldoorlock/unlock circuit
installed,thedoorswillunlock. Ifyouhavetheoptionalentryilluminationcircuitinstalled,the
interiorlight willturn on for30 secondsor until theignition keyis switched on.
Note: Ifthepassivearmingmodewasselected attimeofinstallation,the dashmountedLED
willstartflashingrapidlyindicatingthatthesystemisrearming. Openinganydoorwill
suspendthe automatic arming.
Iftheparkinglightsflashedthreetimes,andthesirenchirps four times, this indicates that the
alarm system had been triggered in your absence. Before turning on the ignition key,
examinethe dashmounted LED's flashpattern. The number of flashes identifiesthe trig-
geredzone. Foradditionalinformation,refertoINTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNALSfoundlater
inthis manual.
Note: Ifthe optional 2stepdoorunlockcircuitisinstalled,when the unlock transmitterbutton
is activated, the drivers door only will unlock, pressing the unlock button a second
time will cause all doors to unlock. If your transmitter has a sperate lock unlock
buttons,pressingtheunlockbuttonanytimeafterthefirstunlockcommandwillcause
allthevehicle doors tounlock.
WHILETHESYSTEMISSOUNDING
If during a triggered state, you wish to shut off the siren without disarming your security
system,simplypressand release any transmitterbuttonotherthan the disarm button. This
actionwill turn offthe siren yetleave the vehiclefully armed andprotected. This feature is
particularlyusefulifyou are awareofchildrenplaying near your vehiclethatmayaccidently
triggeryour securitysystem. In this caseyou cancancel the sirensounding.
INTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNAL
This systemwill inform youifan intrusion attempthas occurred whileyou were awayfrom
thevehicle. Upondisarm,thesirenwillchirp4 times and the parking lightswill flash 3times.
Enterthe vehicle andbeforeturning on theignitionswitch, observe theLED flash pattern.
If the LED flashes one time...pause, one time...pause etc., then an intrusion attempt was
madebyimpact or a strongvibrationthat the shock sensordetected. Checkthevehicle for
possibledamageto the glassorbody panels.
Ifthe LED flashes twotimes...pause, two times...pauseetc.,then an intrusionattemptwas
madeto open thehood, trunk, orby an accessorytriggering device. Check thevehicle for
indicationsof forced entry to theseopenings.
Ifthe LEDflashes three times...pause, three times...pauseetc., thenan intrusion attempt
wasmade tothe vehicledoors. Check alldoors forindications of forcedentry.
Note: TheLEDintrusionwarningindications are stored in thesystem's memoryand willbe
erasedwhen theignition switchis turned on.
VALETSWITCH:
Thevaletswitch allows you to temporarily bypass all alarm functions, eliminating the need to
hand your transmitter to parking attendants or garage mechanics. When the system is in
valetmode,allalarmfunctionsarebypassed,howevertheremotepanicfeatureandremote
doorlockswillremainoperational.Tousethevalet mode, the system must firstbe disarmed
eitherby using your keychain transmitter,orbyactivatingyourpersonalizedmanualoverride
code.

1.Enterthe vehicle, and turntheignitionkey to theonposition.
2.Pressandholdthevalet pushbutton switch until thedash mountedLED turns onsolid. The
systemwillremainin the valet mode.
3.Toreturntonormaloperation,pressandreleasethepushbutton switch any time the ignition
ison.
NOTE:Alwaysremembertoreturn the vehicle to thevaletoffposition.Thiswillensurethatthe
vehicleremainsprotectedatalltimes.
MANUALLYOVERRIDINGYOURSYSTEM:
USINGTHEVALETSWITCHMANUALOVERRIDE
Your Security System can be disarmed without the use of the keychain transmitter. This is
necessary,sinceyou will needtheability to operateyourvehicle if thetransmitteris lost or its
batteryfails. If your systemhasbeen selected forValet Switch manualoverride as indicated
onthe last pageofthis manual, toby-pass the alarmsystem;
1. Openthevehicle door. Thealarm will sound.
2. Turntheignition key to theonposition.
3. Within5 seconds,press and releasethe valetpushbutton switch.
Thealarmsystemwillstop sounding and enterthe (by-passed)mode. You cannow startand
operatethevehiclenormally.
Typically thisoverridemodeis used only ifthetransmitter has become inoperative.
Programming Your Custom Override Code:
Unlike override switches easily found, and defeated, this security system allows the con-
sumer to program a personal override code, offering a higher level of security. To take
advantageof this option,programmable feature #10must be selectedfor the CustomCode
Option. Consultyourinstallationcenterforprogrammingdetails.The system comes from the
factorywitha pre-programmed overridecodeof11. Tochangethisdefault override code,do
thefollowing:
1. Disarm the system by use of the transmitter, or by use of the emergency override
sequence. Turntheignitionswitch to theonposition.
2. Within10 seconds, pressand releasethe valet/override switch,3 times.
3. Within 10 seconds turn the ignition switch off, on, off, on, off, on.
(Thesiren or hornwill beepand the lightswill flash onetime.)
4. Within10 seconds,begin to enteryour chosen 10thsdigit bypressing and releasingthe
pushbuttonswitch from 1upto 9times.
5. Within10 secondsof the lastentered 10ths digit, turn theignition switch offthen on.
6. Within 10 seconds, begin to enter your chosen units digit by pressing and releasing the
pushbuttonswitch from1 up to9 times.
7. Finishby turning theignition switch tothe offposition.
If the new code was accepted, the unit will report back the newly entered code, by flashing
theLED, first indicating the10ths digit, pauseandthen the unitsdigit. Theunit will reportthe
new code three times with a one second pause between each code, then the system will
beginarming. IftheLEDflashpattern
reports the previously stored code, the new code was not entered correctly. Please repeat
steps1 through 7above consideringthe following.
NOTE: Acceptabledigits10ths or units are1through 9. The unit willnotrecognizea 0 (Zero),
orno digit enteredin any place,unitsor tenths.
NOTE: If 15 seconds of inactivity expire, or if the ignition switch is turned off for more then 5
secondsduringany of the abovesteps,theunit will revertbacktothe last successfully
storedcode.

Custom Code Programming Example:
To Change the code from the factory pre-assigned code of 11 to “52” you would do the
following:
1. Disarm the system by use of the transmitter, or by use of the emergency override
sequence.
2. Turnthe ignition switchto the onposition.
3. Within10 seconds, pressand releasethe valet/override switch,3 times.
4. Within 10 seconds turn the ignition switch off, on, off, on, off, on.
(Thesiren or hornwill beepand the lightswill flash onetime.)
5. Within10 seconds, beginto pressandrelease thepushbutton switchto set thetenths
digit.(As per theexample, press andrelease 5 timesto set thetenths digit to5)
6. Within10 secondsof the lastpress ofthe push-button, turn the ignitionswitch offthen
on.
7. Within 10 seconds, begin to press and release the push button switch to set the units
digit.
(Asper the example,press and release2 timesto set theunits digit to2).
8. Turnthe ignition switchtotheoff position. Immediately observetheLED flash pattern.
You will note the LED flashing five times, pause, and then flash two times, pause. This
pattern will be repeated three times indicating the new code (52) has been accepted and
storedin memory.
NOTE: Ifafterstep7,theLEDflashesacodeother than what was just entered, thisindicates
thatthecodehasnotbeenchanged. You will haveto repeat steps 1through 7 above
beingcertain to notethefollowing:
Acceptabledigits10thsorunits are 1 through9. Theunitwillnotrecognize a 0 (Zero),orno
digitentered in any place,units or tenths.
NOTE: If15 seconds ofinactivityexpire, or ifthe ignition switchisturned off formore then 5
seconds during any of the above steps, the unit will revert back to the last
successfully stored code.
MANUALLYOVERRIDINGYOURSYSTEM:
USINGTHECUSTOMCODEOVERRIDE
Assumingthe override codeprogrammed has notbeen changed, andthedefault override
codeof 11is in thesystem's memory.
1) Enterthevehicle and turntheignition switch totheon position.
Note: Thesiren will sound.
2) Within5seconds, press andrelease the pushbuttonswitch 1 time.
3) Within5 seconds, turnthe ignitionswitch off then on.
4) Within5seconds, press andrelease the pushbuttonswitch 1 time.
5) Turntheignition switchoff then on and startthe vehicle.
Note: Ifyou have changedthe programmed overridecode thensubstitute your newcode
tenths for step 2 above, and units for step 5 above.
ELIMINATINGTHENORMAL ARM/DISARMCHIRPS
Youcan selectivelyeliminatethenormalarm&disarmchirpsby holdingthetransmitterbutton
slightlylonger whenarming or disarming. This will preventthe sirenchirps for one arm or
disarmcycle. If you findthisinconvenient and wishtoeliminate these chirpspermanently,
1. Start with the valet switch in the 'off" position.
2.Turn theignition switch 'on" then 'off".
3.Within 10seconds of turning off theignition, movethe valet switch'on", "off',"on", "off",
"on", "off".

4. If the chirps were on before you started, the siren will emit 2 short chirps indicating that
the chirps are now off. If the chirps were off before you started, the siren will emit one
short chirp indicating that the chirps are now on.
NOTE: If the vehicle battery is disconnected then reconnected, the unit will return to the
defaultsettingofchirpson. Repeattheaboveprocedureto eliminate the arm/disarm
chirps.
REMOTEPANICOPERATION
TheLockor Unlock button onyourkeychain transmitter also functionsasapanic switch for
useinemergency situations. To use remotepanic,
1. Press and hold the Lock or Unlock button on the keychain transmitter for 3 or more
seconds. Thealarm willimmediatelysound.
2.Tostop thealarm, pressandholdthe Lock or Unlockbuttononthe transmitter again for3
seconds. If the button is not pressed, the alarm will automatically stop after 30 seconds.
Alsoifany transmitter button otherthanthe Lock or Unlockbuttonis pressed and released,
thePanicmodewillbeturnedoffimmediately. The normal function of thistransmitter button
willbesuspended during the Panicsoundingperiod.
NOTE: WhileinthePanicmode, pressing and releasingtheLock,orthe Unlock buttons will,
if the option is installed, lock and unlock the doors respectively. While in the panic
mode, anytime the unlock button is pressed, the panic feature will continue for the
allotted 30 seconds, however, the security system will be disarmed allowing the
vehicleto start.
SAFETY(Red Handled ) CONTROL SWITCH
The control switch allows you to temporarily disable the remote starting function of your
APS-785. Todisable the unit,move the redhandled control switchto the offposition.
The control switch also allows you to select between 2 hour start up and 4 hour start up
whenusingtheautomaticstartuptimermode. Thefactorypresetstartuptimeforthismode
is every 4 hours. To select between 2 or 4 hour start up timer:
1.Begin withthe control switchin theon position
2.Turn theignition switchon then off
3. Within 10 seconds, move the control switch off, on, off, on (2 switch cycles) to select a
2hour start timer. After10 seconds expire,the parking lightswillflash and thesiren will
chirp2 times confirming thatthe two hourstartcycle is set. Or, within10seconds move
thecontrol switch off, on, off,on, off, on,off, on(4 switch cycles)to select a4 hourstart
timer. The parkinglightswillflashandthesiren willchirp4timesconfirmingthatthe 4 hour
starttimer is set.
REMOTESTARTINGTHEVEHICLE
TheAPS-785 WILL NOTstartthe vehicle ifanyone ofthefollowing conditions exists:
1.The VehicleHoodIsOpened.
2.TheGearSelectorIs In Any GearOther ThenPark.
3.TheBrakeIsDepressed.
4.TheSafety Control SwitchIsInThe Off Position.
CAUTION ! Becertainthat the vehicleis outdoors beforeusing this orany remote vehicle
startingdevice. Arunningengineproducesdangerous carbonmonoxidefumes
whichcan be harmfulor fatal ifprolonged exposure occurs. DONOT remote
startthe vehicleif it isgaraged.
To Remote Start The Vehicle:
Press and release the trunk/key button of your keychain transmitter two times within 2

seconds. The vehicle will start and remain running for the pre-programmed 5, 10, 15, or
20 minutes. As a visual indication, the parking lights will flash or turn on depending on the
programming set up by your installation center.
When you arrive at your vehicle, disarm the alarm system by pressing and releasing the
arm/disarm button of your keychain transmitter. Enter the vehicle and turn the ignition key
to the on position.
CAUTION! Donot turnthekeytothestart position. This willcausethestartermotorto engage
withthealreadyrunningengine which could resultin damage. Stepon thebrake
pedaltodisengagetheremote start unit. The vehiclewill continueto runbutnow
on it's own power.
NOTE: Theengine will stoprunning beforethe expiration ofthe pre-programmed runtimer if
youcomplete any ofthe following:
1. Press and release trunk/key button of your keychain transmitter two times within 2
seconds.
2. Depress the brake pedal.
3.Openthehood.
4.Move thered handled controlswitch tothe off position.
5.Race the engine to above 4000 RPM.
OPERATINGONAUTOMATICSTARTUP TIMERMODE
TheAPS-785hastheabilitytoautomaticallystartthevehicleevery2or4hoursovera48hour
period. This feature is especially useful in cold climates where the only means to keep the
engineandengine fluids warmis to periodically startthe engine.
CAUTION! Be certain that the vehicle is outdoors before using this or any remote vehicle
startingdevice. Arunning engine producesdangerouscarbon monoxide fumes
whichcan be harmful or fatal if prolonged exposureoccurs. DONOTremotestart
thevehicle if itis garaged.
TOBEGINTHEAUTOMATIC STARTUPTIMER
1. Turnthe ignition keyon then off.
2. Within 10 seconds, activate the RF start command two times. (Push the trunk/key
button of your keychain transmitter 4 times).
Theparking lights will flash andthe siren willchirp 4times indicating thetimed startmode is
activated.
Thevehicle, on a 2 or 4 hour interval basis,willautomaticallystart,runforthepre-programmed
time(5,10,15 or 20minutes), andthen shut off. Thiswill continue for48 hours.
NOTE: Theautomaticstartuptimer can also beinitiated fromthe keychaintransmitter.
Todo this:
1. Start the vehicle using the keychain transmitter by pressing and releasing the trunk/key
button 2 times.
2. Shut off the vehicle using the keychain transmitter by pressing and releasing the
trunk/key button 2 times.
3. Within 10 seconds of step 2, activate the RF start command two times. (Push the
trunk/key button of your keychain transmitter 4 times).
The parking lights will flash and the siren will chirp 4 times indicating the timed start mode
is activated.
CANCELINGTHEAUTOMATICSTARTUP TIMER
Tocancel the automaticstart up timerdoone of thefollowing;
1.Start the vehiclemanuallywith the useof the ignitionkeyand depress thebrake pedal.
2.Remotestartthevehicle using your keychain RFtransmitter.

The system has an additional feature, (Channel 3) ,that can be connected to a number of

Tooperate the accessory associated with channel3, press and hold thetrunk/key button(s)
of your keychain transmitter for four seconds.
NOTE: Thefeature that hasbeen added tochannel 3 willalways be operatedusing the same
transmitter button that controls the remote start unit. There is no way to move the
channel3 function toa differentchannel.
