WHAT IS ASSISTED PEDALING?
This bicycle is equipped with an electric assisted pedaling system. An electric
motor assists the effort made by the cyclist. To activate the assiist it is necessary
to begin pedaling and impart force on the pedals, and consequently the torque
sensor. Conversely, if the rider does not pedal, the motor remains inactive. Four
different levels of assist are available. The assist modes are selected using a control
on the left handlebar.
When the assisted pedaling is activated, starting from standstill is much easier and
more immediate. Therefore, before using this bicycle in traffic, it is necessary to learn
how to use it so as to avoid any surprises when setting off.
When the bicycle is stopped, it is recommended to use the "ECO" assist mode
when setting off in order to avoid accidental falls.
When the assisted pedaling is switched off, the bicycle will require additional pedaling
force. The Ital E-Bike is equipped with an electronic gear change system. Reserve
power is stored in the battery to allow this system to function provided the bike is
turned on.
By law, class one e-bikes can not assist pedaling after 20mph, therefore, once 18 mph
has been reached, the assisted pedaling decreases gradually before completely
turning off at 20 mph
The range of the bicycle depends on the user, the circumstances and the type
of route. Main factors affecting the operating range are: weight of the rider,
cruising speed, slope of the route, tire pressure, wind direction, number of gear
changes and braking (in the city) and outside temperature. Very low temperatures
adversely affect the operating range. It is important to take this into account.

travelling RANGE of apedal assisted cycle
The Range of an e-bike is dependent on several factors. The electric motor will absorb
more power with increased weight and when climbing hills, riding against the wind,
stopping and starting repeatedly and changing gear, thereby reducing the distances
that can be traveled.
A light rider could travel 50 - 60 miles over flat terrain, if using a low level of assist.
However a heavier rider traveling up a 7% grade in race mode may only have a 15 mile
range.
It is important to note that the motor works at peak efficiency and will consume less
battery power for the same torque output when the rider pedals with a smooth and
consistent cadence of 70 - 80 rpm. By optimizing pedaling and gear position, a
skilled rider can learn to optimize range
Instantaneous power consumption is shown as a bar graph at the bottom of the
display screen (fig 1)
Who can ride your e-Bike?
• The rider must be able to ride a bicycle, i.e. they must have a basic knowledge of using
bicycles with the necessary sense of balance to ride and control a bicycle.
• The rider, from a stationary position, should be able to get on and off safely and must
be able to touch the ground with their feet. Children are not permitted to ride the

Ital E-Bike user manual - Edition 01 - 2020 21
General summary of The United States Code of Federal Regulations
The CFR 16 part 1512 defines a bicycle as:
(1) A two wheeled vehicle having a rear drive wheel that is solely human powered
(2) A two or three wheeled vehicle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor
of less than 750 watts (1) hp, whose maximum speed on a paved level surface, when
powered solely by such a motor while ridden by an operator who weighs 170
pounds, is less thn 20 mph.
Disabling or adjusting the speed limiter of your Ital E-Bike could violate State and
Federal laws that govern public roads, highways and other public lands.
Ital E-Bike speed limit
Your Ital E-Bike has a device fitted to limit the maximum assisted traveling speed.
It ensures that the maximum assisted speed (eco-standard-high-race)is kept below
20 mph as per the United States code of federal regulations. The user can exceed this
limit but there will be NO electric assistance from your Ital E-Bike.
The Ital E-Bike is considered a class 1 ebike
•Class 1: Ebikes that are pedal assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum
assisted speed of 20 mph.
Most states treat class 1 E-bikes like a traditional mountain or pavement bicycle,
legally allowed to ride where bicycles are permitted, including bike lanes, roads,
multiuse trails and bike only paths. It is the riders responsibility to make sure they are
compliant with all state and local codes when riding their ItalE-Bike.
