The AW58100HTA is a radio wit h dual omnidirect ional ant ennas. It serves as an Access Point (mast er) in
a point-to-multipoint network. The AW58100HTS is a radio with a dual at panel high gain directional
ant enna. Mult iple AW58100HTS radios can serve as a Subscriber Unit s (client s) in conj unct ion wit h an
AW58100HTA.

Digital Conguration
1. Digital conguration is done by means of the radio’s built in browser interface. The unit should be
powered on and connect ed at least t emporarily t o a net work cont aining a comput er t hat can run a
convent ional web browser.
2. Using your web browser, connect t o t he radio as described in t he Quick St art Guide f ound earlier
in t his manual.
3. The init ial page aft er a successful login is “ Quick Set . ” The cont ent of t his page is somewhat dif -
ferent f or t he AW58100HTA Access Point and f or t he AW58100HTS Subscriber Unit .
4. Each page provides a menu on t he lef t t o navigat e f rom sect ion t o sect ion. The menu looks like t his
when it s sect ions are expanded:
Beware t hat cert ain act ions may cause t he web page t o freeze. In most cases, t his is because you are
viewing a browser-cached version of t he page and not t he live one f rom t he radio. Clear your browser
cache and/ or logout and log back in t o recover. You are caut ioned not t o use t he “ back” but t on on
your browser t o at t empt t o move back t o earlier pages. If you do, you will be logged out and will
need t o login again.
In t he upper right of t he page is a label t hat t ells you t he version of t he web int erf ace. If t he ver-
sion number is not t he same as shown below, you might want t o visit www.avalanwireless.com (t he
Downloads page under t he Support menu) t o see if a newer version of t his manual exist s bef ore pro-
ceeding furt her.

Changing The Configuration - Step by Step
Please be aware t hat if you change t he IP Address or User Password and f orget t heir new values, you
have locked yourself out of t he browser int erf ace. The AW58100 runs self -diagnost ics at boot -up and
will auto-correct most system conguration errors. Prior to calling technical support, it is recom-
mended to power cycle the radio and conrm that the problem remains.
In t he event of a lost IP address, reboot t he AW58100 t o creat e a t emporary IP address of 192. 168.88. 88
that can be used to access the radio to reset the user-dened IP address. This IP address expires after
3 minut es f rom reboot . In t he event of a lost password, please cont act AvaLAN t echnical support f or
assist ance.
If you are changing paramet ers over t he RF link (we do not recommend t his), be sure t o make t he re-
mote changes rst because the link will be broken if the network name or Security Keys do not agree.
1. Set t ing t he IP Address and Subnet Mask, Gat eway and Device Name:
• In t he upper right area of t he Quick Set page are t he dat a ent ry boxes for t hese paramet ers.
They cont ain t he current values.
• A special not at ion is used f or t he IP Address and Subnet Mask: Use / x at t he end of t he
IP Address t o specif y t he subnet mask: / 8 f or 255. 0. 0. 0, / 16 for 255. 255. 0. 0 and / 24 for
255. 255.255.0. Ent er a new IP Address and subnet making sure you will be able t o browse t o
t he new address wit h your comput er. Also, make sure t hat t he new IP address is unique on your
LAN.
• The Gateway address should be specied if it is necessary to communicate with the radio
t hrough t he Gat eway. Your syst em administ rat or should have t his value.
• The Device Name is an arbit rary st ring and simply allows you t o at t ach a human-f riendly name
to this specic radio.
• Click “Apply Conguration” when you have entered new values. Nothing appears to happen, but
you have been disconnect ed and will need t o browse t o t he new IP Address t o login again.

2. Set t ing t he User Password:
• On t he Main Menu at t he lef t side of t he browser window, click “ Syst em” , t hen click
“ Password. ”
• Ent er t he old password and t he new password t wice in t he boxes indicat ed.
• Click t he “ Change” but t on.
• Log out and log back in t o t est .
3. Setting the Frequency, Network name and Encryption Key:
• To set t he Frequency, log in t o t he Access Point and on t he quick st art page a select ion can be
made.
• The Net work name is an arbit rary charact er st ring t hat must be set alike in all linked radios.
• The encryption key is a user specied character string.

After conguring your AvaLAN radios and establishing links among them, you can use the browser
int erface t o view st at us and t roubleshoot ing Inf ormat ion. The init ial “ Quick Set ” page will show
whet her t he wireless link is operat ing and t he current signal st rengt h. For more comprehensive inf or-
mat ion, choose “ Wireless” from t he Main Menu at t he lef t side of t he window. The “ Wireless” page
leads t o most of t he usef ul st at us inf ormat ion.
The t able on t he Int erfaces t ab provides a list of t he int erf ace processes running in t his radio. If it is
a Subscriber Unit , t here will be only one, “ Wireless_Radio.” If it is an Access Point , t here will also be
a WDS process running for each Subscriber Unit t hat is connect ed. These very long rows summarize
the conguration details and current running status of the radio. You can click and drag in the heading
row of t he t able t o change t he column widt h if part of t he dat a is not visible.

Physical Se t up
1. Mount each unit securely using t he mount ing bracket s provided or ot her means as necessary.
Maximize light ning resist ance by providing a st rong DC ground connect ion t o t he met al housing.
A. Assemble bot h bracket arms using t he Rot at or
Bolt , a Large Lock Washer and t he Hex Nut . Leave t he
bracket loose enough t o rot at e.
B. Use one of t he following met hods, or ot her
met hods necessary t o seccure t he bracket .
Wide Pole Mounting: Place t he pole bet ween t he
t wo large wedges of Bracket Arm A and t he Pole
Clamp Bar. Use t he t wo Clamp Bolt s t o bind t he bar
and bracket t o t he pole. Use Large Washers and Lock
Washers if needed. Leave t he clamp loose enough t o
rot at e.
Narrow Pole Mounting: Place t he pole bet ween t he
large wedge of t he Bracket Arm A and t he small
wedge on t he reversed side of t he Pole Clamp Bar.
Use t he t wo Clamp Bolt s t o bind t he bar and bracket
t o t he pole. Use Large Washers and Lock Washers if
needed. Leave t he clamp loose enough t o rot at e.
Wall Mounting: Hold Bracket Arm A ush against
t he wall t hen drill f our holes of roughly 3/ 16 inch
diamet er using t he four corner holes of bracket as a
measuring guide. If mount ing on wood, simply use t he
Wall Mount ing Screws t o secure t he bracket t hrough
it s four corner holes and t hose t hat you have drilled.
If mount ing on drywall press Drywall Anchors int o t he
drill-holes t hen do t he same but inst ead screw int o
t he anchors.
C. Adj ust t he bracket apparat us so t he square f ace of
Bracket Arm B f aces t he direct ion of t he device your
radio will be communicat ing wit h. Then using a ½
inch wrench f ully t ight en all applicable component s.

D. Use a large Phillips head screwdriver t o mount
your radio t o Bracket Arm B using t he f our Radio
Mount ing Screws. Use small washers and lock washers
if necessary. Make sure t hat t he orient at ion arrow on
t he back of t he panel ant enna f aces upward so t hat
t he drainage hole is at t he bot t om of t he radio.
E. Assemble t he cable gland on t he end of your RJ45
Et hernet cable(not provided). Then connect t he
cable to your radio’s Ethernet port, and fasten the
gland. The gland must be fully t ight ened t o provide a
wat erproof seal.
2. The AW58100HTS units have dual directional at panel antennas. It is important that the
AW58100HTS ant ennas be point ed t oward t heir Access Point AW58100HTA. Care should be t aken t o
align t he AW58100HTS panel ant enna t o provide t he best perf ormance. The HTS ant enna perf orms
best when the panel’s face is aligned toward its partner. By browsing to the Access Point radio, you
can see a graphical represent at ion of signal st rengt h received f rom each linked Subscriber Unit . Click
t he row in t he t able t o display t he graph for t hat part icular unit . This inf ormat ion can be used t o
facilit at e t he aiming process.
3. Power is provided t o t he unit s by means of t heir Et hernet cables, allowing t he power supplies t o
be locat ed at convenient locat ions. The included power-over-Et hernet inj ect ors (POE) provide t he
means f or adding DC power t o unused wires in t he cable. Each radio is provided wit h a cable clamping
device t hat allows an RJ45 plug on t he cable t o pass t hrough and can be t ight ened down around t he
cable t o provide a weat herproof seal.

- Ensure t he 110VAC is providing clean and consist ent AC power t o t he 18VDC power supply

- Ensure line of sight (LOS)
- Check signal st rengt h in web int erf ace (-40dB is excellent st rengt h and –80dB is weak)
Web Interface:
- Plug RJ45 male side of POE direct ly in t o comput er and verif y net work st at us shows connect ed
- Verify the local computer’s network settings are in the same IP subnet range as the radio
