Chapter 1 | About the Avaya Scopia®
Application server
Avaya Scopia®Application server is a state of the art modern server optimized to run the Scopia®Solution software
products: Scopia®Management, Scopia®Desktop server, Content Center for Scopia®Desktop and Avaya Scopia®
ECS Gatekeeper.
Avaya Scopia®Application server is a 1U device incorporating the latest Intel technology. It comes installed with
Windows 2012 R2 Server operating system, and its hardware supports the full capacity range of the applications it is
designed to run. It is also highly reliable, using a solid state drive (SSD), and has the ideal specifications to run
Scopia®Solution components.
This publication covers the latest Avaya Scopia®Application server (P/N 55876-00003).

Technical Specifications and Environmental Requirements
This section details the system specifications of the Avaya Scopia®Application server. Refer to this data
when preparing system setup and afterwards to verify the environment still complies with these
requirements.
The Avaya Scopia®Application server specifications are as follows:
•CPU: Single Intel Xeon E3-1275V2 Quad Core, 3.5 GHz CPU
•RAM: 8GB DDR3-1600MHz
•SSD: 100GB
•Ethernet: Dual 1GB NICs
1 x DB9 serial port connector
2 x USB 2.0 connectors
•OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 Server
The hardware and environmental requirements are as follows:
•System power requirements: 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz
•Maximum power consumption: 200W (682 BTU/h)
•Operating temperature: 10°C to 35°C (50°F to 95°F)
•Relative humidity: 5% to 90% non-condensing
•Storage temperature: -40°C to 70°C (-40°F to 158°F), ambient

Supported Capacity
You can configure the Avaya Scopia®Application server in one of several configurations, where each
represents a possible set of software installations on a single server. A standalone installation has far
more capacity than a joint configuration.
For more information on installing each of the components, see the installation guide for that product.
•Standalone Avaya Scopia®Management configuration
This software installation applies to both Scopia®Management enterprise or service provider
(multi-tenant) editions, in configurations with or without the internal Avaya Scopia®Gatekeeper.
The supported capacity on this device is as follows:
–Up to 40,000 users listed in the user directory
–Up to 2,000 simultaneous MCU connections
–Up to 2,000 simultaneous gatekeeper connections
–Up to 10,000 simultaneous gatekeeper registrations
•Standalone Avaya Scopia®ECS Gatekeeper configuration
This software installation applies to both regular and alternate ECS installations. The supported
capacity on this device is as follows:
–Up to 2,000 connections to the gatekeeper
–Up to 10,000 registrations to the gatekeeper
•Standalone Scopia®Desktop server configuration
When installing only Scopia®Desktop server on this device, it can support any one of the following
Scopia®Desktop server configurations:
–Dedicated Scopia®Desktop Conference Server for up to 250 participants
–Dedicated Scopia®Desktop Content Center Server for up to 600 streaming sessions and 10
recording sessions
–Dedicated Scopia®Content Slider Server for up to 100 slider sessions.
•All-in-one configuration
This server installation combines Scopia®Management with its internal Avaya Scopia®
Gatekeeper and Scopia®Desktop server. The supported capacity on this device is as follows:
–Up to 20,000 users listed in the user directory
–Up to 200 simultaneous gatekeeper connections
–Up to 1,000 simultaneous gatekeeper registrations
–Up to 100 simultaneous Scopia®Desktop or Scopia®Mobile calls

Checking Site Suitability
Prior to setting up your device, you need to verify your site suitability for:
•System power requirements
•System environmental requirements
•The device physical dimensions.
For more information, see Technical Specifications and Environmental Requirements on page 4to learn
about these requirements. Ensure the site conforms to the listed requirements.
Unpacking the Device
About this task
We strongly recommend that you follow safety guidelines described in this section during unpacking.
Procedure
1. Inspect the shipping box to verify that it is not seriously damaged during shipping.
2. Place the shipping box on a horizontal surface paying attention to the This Side Up symbol
on the shipping box (Figure 1: This Side Up symbol on page 7).

Caution:
The accessories kit is situated on top of the device inside the shipping box and can be
damaged if the box is placed upside down. Pay attention to the This Side Up symbol on
the shipping box to handle the box correctly at all times.
Caution:
To prevent injury and equipment damage, follow the lifting guidelines described in the
Safety Guide when lifting or moving the shipping box.
3. Cut the plastic straps.
Caution:
The plastic straps are tightly stretched and can hit you when you cut them. To avoid this,
make sure you do not face the side of the box secured by the straps before you cut the
straps.
4. Cut the strapping tape.
5. Open the shipping box.
6. Take the accessories kit out of the shipping box.
7. Take the device out of the shipping box.
8. Carefully open the additional boxes, remove the packing material, and remove the drives and
other contents.
Important:
We recommend keeping the packaging materials in case you need to repack the device.
9. Remove the cellophane wrapping from the server case.
10. After opening the shipping box, check the shipment is complete. Compare the contents of the
shipment with the packing list included in the box.
Inspecting for Damage
After you verify that all of the equipment is included, carefully examine the power supplies and cables for
any damage resulting from shipping. If you suspect any damage from shipping, contact your local freight
carrier for procedures on damage claims. If you observe any physical defects in the items you ordered,
contact Technical Support for Return Material Authorization (RMA) form.

Important:
Before proceeding with the installation, verify that all of the ordered parts are present and in good
condition. Keep a record of the parts and serial numbers. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact
your sales representative.

Mounting the Device on to the Rack
To mount the device, perform these tasks in the order listed:

Preparing the Rack and Rails for Mounting the Device
About this task
This section describes how to prepare all the equipment required to mount the device onto the rack,
including choosing the rack and finding the right place on the rack to mount the device.
Before you begin
Ensure that the room is suitable for the device and remove the device from its box, as described in
Preparing the Avaya Scopia®Application server Setup on page 6.
Procedure
1. Verify that you have a 19” rack that meets the EIA-310 standards. This standard includes the
exact specifications, including the shape of the holes, their size, the depth of the rack and
other features.
The rack should be sturdy enough to support the device when you slide it in and out.

We recommend choosing a rack without doors. If installing in an enclosed rack, ensure that
the rack has adequate ventilation.
2. Ensure that the environment is suitable and set up the rack, considering factors such as the
ambient temperature of the room. Read the safety instructions that came with your rack for
details.
Important:
Maintain a minimum clearance of 30 inches (76.2 cm) in the rear of the rack to allow
adequate airflow.
Ensure the rack is stable. The leveling jacks at the bottom of the rack should be fully
extended.
3. Decide where on the rack to place the device, using the guidelines listed below. Mark this
location on the rack, ensuring that the height is the same on each rack post.
Proper placement prevents the device from overheating and ensures that the rack is stable.
•Find a space on the rack which is 3 empty square holes in height (1U), as shown in
Figure 2: One rack unit of space on the rack on page 10.
Note that the holes on the rack posts are not spaced equally. They form a repeating
pattern of two holes close together, then one hole separate, then two holes close
together and so on.
The top of the device should start on the lower of the two holes which are close
together.

•If there are few devices mounted in the rack, find the lowest possible location to mount
the device, to ensure the rack remains stable.
4. Make sure you have the following items, which were shipped with the device and are used to
mount the rails to the rack (Figure 3: Preparing the parts required to mount the rails on page
11):•Two long outer rails and two short outer rails, to be attached to the rack itself (as
described in Mounting the Outer Rails on to the Rack on page 11)
