1 Introdu tion
These operating/installation instru tions (hereinafter referred to as the manual) provide you with all the
information you need to operate the VPureMix® Magnetrührsystem (hereinafter also referred to as the
devi e) smoothly.
The manual applies to the following sizes:

In prin iple, this manual applies to all sizes. Any differen es between the sizes are pointed out learly.
The manual must be read, understood, and applied by all persons assigned with the assembly, maintenan e,
leaning and troubleshooting of the devi e. This applies in parti ular to the listed safety instru tions.
After studying the manual, you will be able to:

Assemble and operate the devi e safely,
–
Clean and servi e the devi e orre tly and
–
Take the orre t measures if a malfun tion o urs.
In addition to this manual, generally valid, statutory and other binding regulations in regard of a ident
prevention and in regard of environmental prote tion in the ountry of use must also be observed.

1.1 Means of Presentation

The ommitments agreed in the ontra t of supply and delivery, the general terms and onditions and
the terms of delivery of Armaturenwerk Hötensleben GmbH (referred to hereinafter as AWH) and the
statutory regulations valid at the time the ontra t was on luded shall apply.
Warranty and liability laims in ase of personal injury and damage to property shall be ex luded, in
parti ular if these an be attributed to one or more of the following auses:

Improper or in orre t use of the devi e,

Not monitored or not observed permanent operation,
–
Improper assembly, ommissioning, operation and maintenan e of the devi e.

2 Safety
The devi e has been built in a ordan e with state-of-the-art te hnology and the re ognized rules of
safety. Nevertheless, the use of the devi e may pose a fun tional danger to the life and limb of the user
and third parties or a risk of impairments to the devi e and other obje ts of material value.
The following basi safety instru tions are intended to prevent injury to persons and material damage.
The operating ompany must ensure that the basi safety instru tions are observed and adhered to.
This manual ontains basi notes on the installation, operation, maintenan e and servi ing of the
devi e whi h must be observed.
Anyone involved in assembly, operation, maintenan e and servi ing must read and understand this manual.
The safety systems and safety instru tions des ribed in this manual must be observed.
WARNING
Failure to comply with this manual, incorrectly performed installation and repair work or
incorrect operation could lead to malfunctions to the device and to dangerous situations!
There is a risk of death or severe physical injury.

2.1 Intended Use
The devi e is intended for mixing fluids in ommer ial and industrial operations (food, industry,
hemi al industry and pharma euti al and biote hnologi al industry).
Depending on the size, the devi e must be permanently installed in a ontainer with adequate apa ity.
There are nine sizes in the gradations 30, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 liters.
NOTE ON EXPLOSION PR

Any misuse, such as operation of the device in a potentially explosive atmosphere or
when potentially explosive media are used, shall be precluded.

In the event of improper use, there is a risk of serious injury
This device has been designed exclusively for the purpose outlined above. Any other use
beyond that described here or conversion of the device without written approval from
AWH is considered contrary to the intended use. AWH accepts no liability for any damage
arising from such use. The operating company is solely responsible for the risk. The
device must not be put in to operation until it has been assured that all the safety
systems are functional, and the system in which this device is installed meets the safety
requirements of all relevant directives.

addition, the operator must ensure that the operating parameters are observed (see se tion -“6.4
General data and parameters”).

2.2 Danger Warnings
The safety systems and safety instru tions des ribed in this manual must be observed.
The magneti oupled mixer is operated using the ontrol of the higher-level system.
2.2.1 Dangers
NOTE
Risk of damage to the device!
The device must satisfy the requirements. It is to be installed by experts.
Make sure that only the media specified in the manual are used. The parameters listed in the
manual must always be complied with (see chapter “4 General Technical Data”).
WARNING
Danger from permanent magnets!
The magnetic field of permanent magnets poses a risk of influence on medical implants.

People with medical implants must not work on the device.
–
Ensure that no unauthorized persons are in the vicinity of the device.
–
nly instructed personnel are permitted to work on the device.

Danger of suffocation!
There is a danger of suffocation during assembly and maintenance work in the container
of the higher-level system.

Make sure that the no danger of suffocation is posed by the media used.
–
nly instructed and authorized personnel are permitted to work in the container of the
higher-level system.
–
Wear appropriate breathing protection for residual media posing a danger of suffocation.
WARNING
Danger of burns during welding work!
There is a danger of burns during welding work on the container plate.
–
Wear protective work clothing, face protection (welding protection), protective gloves
and safety shoes.
–
Make suitable fire-extinguishing devices available.
–
Report welding work to the appropriate authorities (e.g. plant fire department).
–
nly authorized and trained personnel may carry out work.

There is a danger of burns during operation or maintenance.

Let the motor cool down prior to cleaning work.

There is a risk of minor injury from parts which have become unusable due to incorrect

2.2.2 Danger zone of the devi e
The danger zone for setup, maintenan e and repair work extends to 1 m around the devi e. Take into
onsideration the swing range of any swit h abinet doors that an open. The operating ompany shall
ensure that people are prevented from entering the danger zone during motion sequen es.
2.2.3 Installation of Repla ement Parts and Wearing Parts
Repla ement parts and a essory parts not supplied by AWH have not been he ked or approved by
AWH. Installing and/or using this type of produ t an therefore negatively alter the pres ribed stru tural
properties of your higher-level system under ertain ir umstan es. AWH a epts no liability for any
damage arising from the use of non-original parts or non-original a essory parts. Standard parts an
be obtained from spe ialist dealers.

2.2.4 Swit h-off Pro edure
WARNING
Danger due to moved parts!
When the axis is moving, there is a risk of crushing your fingers and hands.
It is imperative that the following switch-off procedure is observed before cleaning,
maintenance or repair work is carried out (by specialist personnel only).
Disconnect the higher-level system/machine from the power supply.
Secure the higher-level system/machine against being switched on again.
2.3 Duties of the Operating Company
The devi e is used in the ommer ial se tor. The operating ompany is thus subje t to the legal
obligations regarding o upational safety.
In the EEA (European E onomi Area), the national implementation of the framework dire tive
(89/391/EEC) on the introdu tion of measures to en ourage improvements in the safety and health of
employees at work, as well as the orresponding individual dire tives, in parti ular the dire tive
2009/104/EC on erning the minimum safety and health requirements for the use of work equipment
by employees at work, shall be observed and omplied with in their urrent valid versions.
As a basi rule, the operating ompany in Germany must observe the Industrial Safety Ordinan e
(BetrSi hV).
In other ountries, the respe tive national guidelines, statutes and ountry-spe ifi regulations
regarding o upational safety and a ident prevention must be omplied with. The following, non-
exhaustive instru tions apply in parti ular:
–
The operating ompany must ensure that the devi e is used only as intended (see se tion “2.1
Intended Use”).
–
The operating ompany must provide information on the lo ally appli able o upational health and
safety regulations and, in addition, determine the hazards resulting from the spe ifi working
onditions at the lo ation of use of the devi e in a risk assessment. They must then be implemented
in the form of operating instru tions for the operation of the devi e.
–
When using hazardous substan es, prote tive measures must be spe ified in a ordan e with the
safety data sheets and operating instru tions shall be ompiled for the hazardous substan es.
Personnel must be briefed a ordingly.
This also applies to hazardous substan es that may arise during work pro esses.
–
A risk assessment of the workpla es must be arried out. The measures must be defined in the
operating instru tions and the personnel must be instru ted a ordingly.
–
Supervisors must monitor omplian e with the measures spe ified in the operating instru tions.
–
Throughout the entire operating period of the devi e, the operating ompany must he k whether
the operating instru tions it has ompiled refle t the urrent legislation and adapt them if ne essary.

–
The operating ompany must learly regulate and spe ify the responsibilities of personnel (e.g. for
operation, maintenan e and leaning).
–
The operating ompany must only allow suffi iently qualified and authorized personnel to work on
the devi e.
–
The operating ompany must ensure that all staff handling the devi e have read and understood the
instru tions.
Furthermore, it must provide personnel with training at regular intervals with ertifi ation and inform
them of the hazards.
–
The operating ompany must provide suffi ient workpla e lighting at the higher-level system in
a ordan e with the lo ally appli able regulations for o upational health and safety in order to
prevent hazards o urring as a result of poor lighting.
–
The operating ompany must provide personnel with personal prote tive equipment and make sure
that it is used (see se tion “2.6 Personal Prote tive Equipment”).
–
The operating ompany must make sure that nobody whose ability to rea t is impaired by drugs,
al ohol, medi ation or similar substan es is allowed to work on the devi e.
–
The operating ompany must take appropriate measures to inform groups of persons who are not
intended to ome into dire t onta t with the devi e (e.g. visitor groups) about the potential dangers
involved.
–
The operating ompany is responsible for making sure that the devi e is only ever operated in
perfe t ondition.
–
The onstru tor of the higher-level system must install the swit hing and safety devi es required for
the setup, inspe tion, shutdown (in luding emergen y shutdown), operation, maintenan e, leaning
and repair, and provide proof of their installation.
–
The operating ompany must provide fire safety devi es, e.g. the appropriate quantity of suitable
hand-held fire extinguishers of the appropriate size, at easily a essible pla es and provide
employees with training in fire safety.
–
Warnings in the do umentation for externally supplied assembly groups must be adhered to and
in orporated in the risk assessments for the spe ifi workpla e.
Conne tions
–
The lo al regulations must be observed by the operating ompany during the assembly of the devi e
and before ommissioning the system with the devi e.
2.4 Safety Measures (Implemented by the Operating Company)
WARNING
Danger from the incorrect use of media/materials!
The media/materials to be used for the intended operation of the device are procured
and used by the company operating the device. The selection of media/materials is the
responsibility of the operating company.
There is a risk of death or severe physical injury.

The media/materials that ome into onta t with the agitator (e.g. stirring medium and leaning agent)
must be approved for all materials of the devi e.
The responsibility lies with the operating ompany.
For the sele tion of the media/materials, make sure the permitted te hni al parameters of the
devi e are NOT ex eeded.
Adhere to the spe ified appli ation limits in the material data sheets.
Adhere to the safety data sheets supplied by the manufa turers of the materials and media, in
parti ular of hazardous substan es.
The instru tions regarding dangers and disposal must be observed!
Prote tive measures are to be defined and operating instru tions for hazardous substan es are to be
ompiled. This also applies to hazardous substan es that may arise during work pro esses.
The materials used in the devi e an be found in the order onfirmation / supplied material ertifi ates
of Armaturenwerk Hötensleben GmbH.
The operating ompany must ensure that:
–
Unauthorized persons (not operating or maintenan e personnel) are prevented from entering the
danger zone of the higher-level system (in whi h the devi e is installed).
–
The ontainer is emptied prior to assembly and maintenan e work on the devi e.
–
There is no danger of suffo ation in the ontainer before assembly and maintenan e work (e.g. due
to substan es or residue in the ontainer).
–
The dis onne tion of the energy sour es of the higher-level system is te hni ally designed in su h a
way to allow the swit h-off pro edure spe ified in se tion 2.2.4 to be observed.
–
This manual is stowed away for future referen e.
It must be available at the higher-level system in whi h the devi e is installed.
–
The intervals for inspe tions and ontrol measures are defined and observed depending on the
environment and media used.
–
The work des ribed in the manual is to be arried out by experts only.

Safety
2.5 Qualifi ation Requirements for Personnel
The devi e must be operated, maintained and repaired only by persons with the appropriate
qualifi ations. These persons must be familiar with this manual and a t in a ordan e with it.
The respe tive authorizations for personnel must be learly defined.
The following qualifi ations are designated in the manual for various fields of a tivity:
Expert/Spe ialist Personnel
An expert is a person whose professional training, knowledge, and experien e and knowledge of the
relevant standards and regulations enables them to arry out work on the devi e and identify and
prevent potential risks independently.
Instru ted Person
An instru ted person has been briefed and, if ne essary, trained by the operating ompany or an expert
in a briefing on the assigned tasks and potential hazards in the event of improper behavior and
instru ted on the ne essary safety devi es and prote tive measures.
Only personnel with the following spe ifi knowledge may be employed for work on the devi e:
–
Assembly/disassembly: Industrial me hani or omparable vo ational qualifi ation, pra ti al
experien e in the assembly/disassembly of devi es
The person must be familiar with the onstru tion, me hani al installation, maintenan e and

2.6 Personal Prote tive Equipment
In order to minimize health risks, personal prote tive equipment must be worn when working on the devi e.
Prote tive work lothing
Prote tive work lothing is tight-fitting work lothing with low resistan e to tearing and
lose-fitting sleeves and without protruding parts. It is mainly used for prote tion against
be oming entangled in moving omponents.
Do not wear any rings, ne kla es or other jewelry.
Safety shoes
Wear slip-resistant safety shoes for prote tion from heavy, falling obje ts and to prevent
slipping on slippery surfa es.
Prote tive gloves
Wear prote tive gloves to prote t your hands against fri tion, grazes, pun tures or deeper
injuries and against oming into onta t with hot surfa es or hemi al substan es.
Hardhat
Wear a hardhat for prote tion against falling or flying obje ts.
Welding hood
Wear a welding hood for prote tion from damage to the eyes or skin due to the welding ar ,
and from burns aused by flying parti les during welding.
Breathing prote tion
Wear breathing prote tion for prote tion against suffo ation.
Prote tive goggles
Wear prote tive goggles for prote tion against media es aping at high pressure and
against flying obje ts.
Personal prote tive equipment must be provided by the operating ompany in a ordan e with the valid
requirements.
Furthermore, both the national regulations and, if ne essary, the internal instru tions from the
operating ompany must be observed.
