Levelthecamera
Toadjusttheviewinrelationtoareferenceareaoranobject,usethelevelgridincombinationwitha
mechanicaladjustmentofthecamera.
1.GotoVideo>Image>andclick.
2.Clicktoshowthelevelgrid.
3.Adjustthecameramechanicallyuntilthepositionofthereferenceareaortheobjectisaligned
withthelevelgrid.
Selectexposuremode
Toimproveimagequalityforspecificsurveillancescenes,useexposuremodes.Exposuremodeslets
youcontrolaperture,shutterspeed,andgain.GotoVideo>Image>Exposureandselectbetween
thefollowingexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainartificiallighting,forexamplefluorescentlighting,select
Flicker-free.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainartificiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithfluorescent
lightingatnightandsunduringdaytime,selectFlicker-reduced.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.
BenetfromIRlightinlow-lightconditionsbyusingnightmode
Yourcamerausesvisiblelighttodelivercolorimagesduringtheday.Butasthevisiblelightdiminishes,
colorimagesbecomelessbrightandclear.Ifyouswitchtonightmodewhenthishappens,thecamera
usesbothvisibleandnear-infraredlighttodeliverbrightanddetailedblack-and-whiteimagesinstead.
Youcansetthecameratoswitchtonightmodeautomatically.
1.GotoVideo>Image>Day-nightmode,andmakesurethattheIR-cutfilterissettoAuto.
2.Tosetatwhatlightlevelyouwantthecameratoswitchtonightmode,movetheThreshold
slidertowardBrightorDark.
3.Tousethebuilt-inIRlightwhenthecameraisinnightmode,turnonAllowIRilluminationand
SynchronizeIRillumination.

Ifyousettheswitchtonightmodetooccurwhenit’sbrighter,theimageremainssharperasthere
islesslow-lightnoise.Ifyousettheswitchtooccurwhenit’sdarker,theimagecolorsare
maintainedforlonger,butthereismoreimageblurduetolow-lightnoise.

Ifyoustillhaveproblemswithmotionblur:
•Increasethelightlevelinthescene.
•Mountthecamerasothatobjectsmovetowarditorawayfromitratherthansideways.
Handlesceneswithstrongbacklight
Dynamicrangeisthedifferenceinlightlevelsinanimage.Insomecasesthedifferencebetween
thedarkestandthebrightestareascanbesignificant.Theresultisoftenanimagewhereeitherthe
darkorthebrightareasarevisible.Widedynamicrange(WDR)makesbothdarkandbrightareasof
theimagevisible.

withinit.Byusingviewareasyoucanremovepartsofthefullview,forexample,thesky.
Whenyousetupaviewarea,werecommendyoutosetthevideostreamresolutiontothesamesize
asorsmallerthantheviewareasize.Ifyousetthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewarea
sizeitimpliesdigitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,whichrequiresmorebandwidthwithout
addingimageinformation.

YoucanusetheVAPIX®applicationprogramminginterface(API)toturnofftheprivacymasks.

MotionJPEG,orMJPEG,isadigitalvideosequencethatismadeupofaseriesofindividualJPEG
images.Theseimagesarethendisplayedandupdatedataratesufficienttocreateastreamthat
showsconstantlyupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotionvideotheratemustbeatleast
16imageframespersecond.Fullmotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequality
andaccesstoeveryimagecontainedinthestream.

TheImagetabcontainscamerasettingsthataffectallvideostreamsfromtheproduct.Ifyouchange
somethinginthistab,itimmediatelyaffectsallvideostreamsandrecordings.
TheStreamtabcontainssettingsforvideostreams.Yougetthesesettingsifyourequestavideostream
fromtheproductanddon’tspecifyforexampleresolution,orframerate.Whenyouchangethesettings
intheStreamtab,itdoesn’taffectongoingstreams,butitwilltakeeffectwhenyoustartanewstream.
TheStreamprofilessettingsoverridethesettingsfromtheStreamtab.Ifyourequestastreamwitha
specificstreamprofile,thestreamcontainsthesettingsofthatprofile.Ifyourequestastreamwithout
specifyingastreamprofile,orrequestastreamprofilethatdoesn'texistintheproduct,thestream
containsthesettingsfromtheStreamtab.

guaranteedconstantimagequality,butyouneedtomakesureyouhavestoragemargins.
Maximumbitrate(MBR)Maximumbitrateletsyousetatargetbitratetohandlebitratelimitationsinyour
system.Youmightseeadeclineinimagequalityorframerateastheinstantaneousbitrateiskept
belowthespecifiedtargetbitrate.Youcanchoosetoprioritizeeitherimagequalityorframerate.We
recommendthatyouconfigurethetargetbitratetoahighervaluethantheexpectedbitrate.Thisgives

morelikelytogetbetterimagequalitywheninsceneswithalotofactivityifyouusetheaveragebitrate
option.Youcandefinethetotalstoragerequiredtostorethevideostreamforaspecifiedamountoftime
(retentiontime)whenimagequalityisadjustedtomeetthespecifiedtargetbitrate.Specifytheaverage
