Whensettingtheinitialpassword,thepasswordissentincleartextoerthenetwork.Ifthereisariskofnetworksnifng,
rstsetupasecureandencryptedHTTPSconnectionbeforeresettingthepasswords.
Thedeicepasswordistheprimaryprotectionforthedataandserices.Axis’productsdonotimposeapasswordpolicyasproducts
maybeusedinarioustypesofinstallations,buttoprotectyourdatadothefollowing:
•Don’tusethedefaultpasswordthatcomeswiththeproducts.
•Useapasswordwithatleast8characters,preferablyusingapasswordgenerator.
•Don’texposethepassword.
•Changepasswordatarecurringinteral,atleastonceayear.
Setapasswordfortherootaccount
Important
Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproductmustberesetto
thefactorydefaultsettings.
Thedefaultrootaccounthasfullpriilegesandshouldbereseredforadministratietasks.Alwayscreateauseraccountwithlimited
priilegesfordailyuse.Thisreducestheexposureoftheadministratieaccount.

Howtoselectexposuremode
Thereareseeralexposuremodeoptionsinthecamerathatadjustsaperture,shutterspeed,andgaintoimproeimagequalityfor
specicsureillancescenes.IntheImagetab,selectbetweenthefollowingoptions:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forenironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlicer-free.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Forenironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand
sunduringdaytime,selectFlicer-reduced.
Selectthesamefrequencyasthepowerlinefrequency.
•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.
HowtoenetfromIRlightinlow-lightconditionsusingnightmode
Yourcameradelierscolorimagesduringtheday.Aslightdiminishes,youcansetthecameratoautomaticallyshifttonightmode.
Withthissettingenabled,thecameradeliersblack-and-whiteimageswiththehelpofIRlight.

Apriacymaskisauser-denedareathatprohibitsusersfromiewingpartsofthemonitoredarea.Priacymasksappearasblocks
ofsolidcolorandareappliedontheideostream.
Thepriacymaskisrelatietothepan,tilt,andzoomcoordinateswhichmeansthatregardlessoftheangleandzoom,thepriacy
maskcoersthesameplaceorobject.
Priacymasksarepresentonallsnapshots,recordedideo,andrequestedstreams.TheycannotbebypassedthroughtheVAPIX®
applicationprogramminginterface(API).

Howtochoosevideocompressionformat
Decidewhichcompressionmethodtousebasedonyouriewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesofyournetwork.The
aailableoptionsare:
MotionJPEG
MotionJPEGorMJPEGisadigitalideosequencethatismadeupofaseriesofindiidualJPEGimages.Theseimagesarethen
displayedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.Fortheiewertoperceiemotion
ideotheratemustbeatleast16imageframespersecond.Fullmotionideoisperceiedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butproidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeeryimage
containedinthestream.
H.264orMPEG-4Part10/AVC
Note
H.264isalicensedtechnology.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264iewingclientlicense.Installingadditionalunlicensed
copiesoftheclientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionallicenses,contactyourAxisreseller.

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalideolebymorethan80%comparedtotheMotion
JPEGformatandbyasmuchas50%comparedtotheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace
arerequiredforaideole.Orseenanotherway,higherideoqualitycanbeachieedforagienbitrate.

Resettofactorydefaultshouldbeusedwithcaution.Aresettofactorydefaultresetsallsettings,includingtheIPaddress,to
thefactorydefaultalues.
Toresettheproducttothefactorydefaultsettings:
1.Disconnectpowerfromtheproduct.
2.Pressandholdthecontrolbuttonwhilereconnectingpower.SeeProductoverview.
3.Keepthecontrolbuttonpressedfor15–30secondsuntilthestatusLEDindicatorashesamber.
4.Releasethecontrolbutton.TheprocessiscompletewhenthestatusLEDindicatorturnsgreen.Theproducthasbeenreset

isthatthewrongrmwarelehasbeenuploaded.Checkthatthenameofthermwarele
correspondstoyourproductandtryagain.

IftheIPaddressintendedfortheproductandtheIPaddressofthecomputerusedtoaccessthe
productarelocatedondifferentsubnets,youcannotsettheIPaddress.Contactyournetwork

DisconnecttheAxisproductfromthenetwork.Runthepingcommand(inaCommand/DOS
