H.264can,withoutcomromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comaredwiththeMotion
JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragesace
arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.
Decidingwhichcombinationofrotocolsandmethodstousedeendsonyourviewingrequirements,andontheroertiesof

comlexity,usingumorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin
thesceneincreases,thebitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurlusinbandwidth,thismaynotbeanissueand
selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willbesufcient.Butifbandwidthislimited,itisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting

Day/Night
TheIRcutlterreventsinfrared(IR)lightfromreachingtheimagesensor.Inoorlightingconditions,forexamleatnight,orwhen
usinganexternalIRlam,settheIRcutltertoOff.Thisincreaseslightsensitivityandallowstheroductto“see”infraredlight.The
imageisshowninblackandwhitewhentheIRcutlterisoff.
IfusingautomaticExposurecontrol,settheIRcutltertoAutotoautomaticallyswitchbetweenOnandOffaccordingtothe
lightingconditions.
TheDay/Nightshiftlevelbarhelsdeterminewhenthecamerawillshiftfromdaymodetonightmode.Normally,thecamera
automaticallychangesmodefromdaytonightwhenverydark(level100intheslider).BysettingDay/Nightshiftleveltoa
lowervalue,thecamerawillchangetonightmodeearlier.
