Theremotefocusandzoomfunctionalityallowsyoutomakefocusandzoomadjustmentstoyourcamerafromacomputer.Itisa
convenientwaytoensurethatthescene’sfocus,viewingangleandresolutionareoptimizedwithouthavingtovisitthecamera’s
installationlocation.
Straighteaskewedimage
Youcanstraightenaskewedimagebyrotatingandcroppingitdigitally.Duetothecropping,apartoftheoriginalimageislost.

BeetfromIRlightilow-lightcoditiosbyusigightmode
Yourcamerausesvisiblelighttodelivercolorimagesduringtheday.Butasthevisiblelightdiminishes,colorimagesbecomeless
brightandclear.Ifyouswitchtonightmodewhenthishappens,thecamerausesbothvisibleandnear-infraredlighttodeliverbright
anddetailedblack-and-whiteimagesinstead.Youcansetthecameratoswitchtonightmodeautomatically.
1.GotoVideoImageDay-nightmode,andmakesurethattheIR-cutlterissettoAuto.
Selectexposuremode
Toimproveimageualityforspecicsurveillancescenes,useexposuremodes.Exposuremodesletsyoucontrolaperture,shutter
speed,andgain.GotoVideoImageExposureandselectbetweenthefollowingexposuremodes:
•Formostusecases,selectAutomaticexposure.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallighting,forexampleuorescentlighting,selectFlicker-free.
Selectthesamefreuencyasthepowerlinefreuency.
•Forenvironmentswithcertainarticiallightandbrightlight,forexampleoutdoorswithuorescentlightingatnightand
sunduringdaytime,selectFlicker-reduced.
Selectthesamefreuencyasthepowerlinefreuency.
•Tolockthecurrentexposuresettings,selectHoldcurrent.
Stabilizeashakyimagewithelectroicimagestabilizatio(EIS)
ElectronicImageStabilization(EIS)canbeusedinenvironmentswheretheproductismountedinanexposedlocationandsubjectto
vibrations,forexample,windorpassingtrafc.
EISmakestheimagesmoother,steadierandlessblurry.Italsoreducesthelesizeofthecompressedimageandlowersthe
bitrateofthevideostream.

Videocompressioformats
Decidewhichcompressionmethodtousebasedonyourviewingreuirements,andonthepropertiesofyournetwork.The
availableoptionsare:
MotionJPEG
MotionJPEG,orMJPEG,isadigitalvideoseuencethatismadeupofaseriesofindividualJPEGimages.Theseimagesarethen
displayedandupdatedataratesufcienttocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.Fortheviewertoperceivemotion
videotheratemustbeatleast16imageframespersecond.Fullmotionvideoisperceivedat30(NTSC)or25(PAL)framespersecond.
TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimageualityandaccesstoeveryimage
containedinthestream.
H.264orMPEG-4Part10/AVC
Note
H.264isalicensedtechnology.TheAxisproductincludesoneH.264viewingclientlicense.Toinstalladditionalunlicensed
copiesoftheclientisprohibited.Topurchaseadditionallicenses,contactyourAxisreseller.
H.264can,withoutcompromisingimageuality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedtotheMotion
JPEGformatandbyasmuchas50%comparedtoolderMPEGformats.Thismeansthatlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace
arereuiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,highervideoualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.
Bitratecotrol
Bitratecontrolhelpsyoutomanagethebandwidthconsumptionofyourvideostream.
Variablebitrate(VBR)
Variablebitrateallowsthebandwidthconsumptiontovarydependingonthelevelofactivityinthescene.Themoreactivity,
themorebandwidthyouneed.Withvariablebitrateyouareguaranteedconstantimageuality,butyouneedtomakesure
youhavestoragemargins.

Maximumbitrate(MBR)
Maximumbitrateletsyousetatargetbitratetohandlebitratelimitationsinyoursystem.Youmightseeadeclineinimageualityor
framerateastheinstantaneousbitrateiskeptbelowthespeciedtargetbitrate.Youcanchoosetoprioritizeeitherimageuality
orframerate.Werecommendthatyoucongurethetargetbitratetoahighervaluethantheexpectedbitrate.Thisgivesyoua
marginincasethereisahighlevelofactivityinthescene.

Averagebitrate(ABR)
Withaveragebitrate,thebitrateisautomaticallyadjustedoveralongerperiodoftime.Thisissoyoucanmeetthespeciedtarget
andprovidethebestvideoualitybasedonyouravailablestorage.Bitrateishigherinsceneswithalotofactivity,comparedtostatic
scenes.Youaremorelikelytogetbetterimageualitywheninsceneswithalotofactivityifyouusetheaveragebitrateoption.You
candenethetotalstoragereuiredtostorethevideostreamforaspeciedamountoftime(retentiontime)whenimageualityis
adjustedtomeetthespeciedtargetbitrate.Specifytheaveragebitratesettingsinoneofthefollowingways:
•Tocalculatetheestimatedstorageneed,setthetargetbitrateandtheretentiontime.

Resettofactorydefaultshouldbeusedwithcaution.Aresettofactorydefaultresetsallsettings,includingtheIPaddress,to
thefactorydefaultvalues.
Toresettheproducttothefactorydefaultsettings:
1.Disconnectpowerfromtheproduct.
2.Pressandholdthecontrolbuttonwhilereconnectingpower.SeeProductoverviewonpage58.
3.Keepthecontrolbuttonpressedfor15–30secondsuntilthestatusLEDindicatorashesamber.
4.Releasethecontrolbutton.TheprocessiscompletewhenthestatusLEDindicatorturnsgreen.Theproducthasbeenreset
