Introduction
AXISPTZcamerasaredesignedforlong-lastingoperation.Tominimizetheeffectsofexteriorconditions(forexample,weather
andwear),toaoidproblems,andtokeeptheexpectedoperationleels(performanceandproductlife),thePTZcamera,and
theoperationofit,willbenetfromregularmaintenance.
Thisdocumentisintendedforbothcustomersandinstallers.Itincludespreentiemaintenanceinstructionsandapreentie
maintenancechecklistthatareeasytofollow.Werecommendusingthedeice’sinstallationguideasareference.SeePreparations
onpage3formoreinformation.
Theinstructionsandthechecklistarediidedintotwosubsections:
1.Firmwaremaintenance–tasksthatcanbeperformedremotely.
2.Hardwareandinstallationmaintenance–tasksthataffectthephysicalinstallationandmustbeperformedatthecamera
location.
Axisrecommendsthatyoudothesepreentiemaintenancetaskseachyear.Wealsorecommendcooperatingwiththecamera
operatorbefore,during,andaftereachmaintenanceround.

Downloadthelatestersionsofthedeice'susermanualandinstallationguidefromaxis.com.Usethemashandbookswhen
followingthepreentiemaintenanceinstructionsandchecklist.
AlsodownloadthelatestrmwareormakesureyouhaeaccesstotheInternetwhenperformingthemaintenancetasks.Readthe
instructionscarefullyandstartwiththermwaremaintenancesection.
Safetyinstructions
CAUTION
•AoidexposingtheAxisdeicetoshocksorheaypressure.
•Donotinstallthedeiceonunstablebrackets,surfacesorwalls.
•UseonlyapplicabletoolswheninstallingtheAxisdeice.Excessieforcecouldcausedamagetothedeice.
•Donotusechemicals,causticagents,oraerosolcleaners.Useacleanclothdampenedwithpurewaterforcleaning.
•Useonlyaccessoriesthatcomplywithtechnicalspecicationofthedeice.ThesecanbeproidedbyAxisorathirdparty.

camerasaredesignedandtestedtoendure(x)moements.
Actions:
•GotoSettings>System>Maintenance>ReportsandclickViewtheserverreport.SearchforPTZCounter.
•Ifthecounterisaboethe(x)alue
-butthecamerastillfunctionsnormally,useitasnormalwhileobseringitsbehaior.

Temperature
Purpose:Preentenironmentalfactorsfromaffectingthecamera.Forexample,extremetemperaturescausedbydirectsunlight,
cancauseunexpectedbehaiorinthecamera.
Actions:
•GotoSettings>System>Maintenance>ReportsandclickViewtheserverreport.Checkforfanfailuresandif
thetempcounterishigherthan5.
•Iftherearemanywarningsorthetempcounterishigh,considertakingprecautionsthatreducetheriskofexposingthe
cameratoextremelyhotorcoldtemperatures.

Tempcounterexample:Tempcounter50
Vibrations
Purpose:KeeptheaccuracyofthePTZmechanism,whichissensitietoibrations,andachieeidealoperationwhenzooming.
Actions:
•GotoSettings>System>Maintenance>ReportsandclickViewtheserverreport.Searchforpan/tilterrors,
whichcanbeanindicationofibrationsthatcauseproblemsforthecamera.Exampleofpanerrorfromsererreport:
domed[759]:Panpositionerror!
Contactthecameraowner/operatortoidentifyissuescausedbyibrations.
•Vibrationscanbereducedbyusinganothermountingoptionorimproetheexistingone.Apotentialcausecouldbethat
thescrewsareloosebetweenthebracketandthepole/wall.SeeScrewsonpage7formoreinformation.
Presetpositions
Purpose:Maintainthepresetpositions.Presetsaresupposedtostayintheirconguredlocations.Howeer,duetocertainconditions
suchastemperatureariationsandnormalweartheycouldbecomeoffsetoertime.
Note
Itcouldbedifculttodetectorremembertheoriginallocationofapreiouslyconguredpresetposition.Ifthisisthe
case,talktothecameraoperator.
Actions:
•Ifanyofthepresetsareoffset,gotoSettings>PTZ>Presetpositionsandrecongurethepresettothedesiredlocation
byaddingapresetwiththesamename.
•Ifthepresetaccuracyoffsetishigh,gotoSettings>PTZ>LimitsandturnoffE-ip.
•Iftheoffsetisstillhigherthan0.5°Caftercompletingtheactionsaboe,contactaxis.com/support.
PTZtest
Purpose:TestthePTZmechanism.Thebuilt-inPTZtestisdesignedtocalibratethecamerablockandcheckforproblems.
Actions:
•GotoSettings>System>Maintenance>PTZstatusandclickTest.
Ifanyerrorsarereported,gotoSettings>System>Maintenance>ReportsandclickDownloadtheserverreport.

SDcard(ifapplicable)
Purpose:CheckSDcardperformance.ForoptimalperformanceandtoaoidacorruptdatabaseontheSDcard,followthe
recommendations.Memorycardswithastoragecapacityupto64GBcanbeusedforlocalrecordingwithremoablestorage.
TheminimumrecommendationisSDHCandSDXCcardsofspeedclass10.Forinformationaboutthelatestrecommendations,
gotoaxis.com.
Actions:
•GotoSettings>System>Storage>Recordingsandiewonerecording.Makesureitisintact.
•CheckthestatusoftheSDcard.GotoSettings>System>Storage>Onboardstorage:
1.Stopongoingrecordings
2.Remoethestorage
3.ChecktheSDcard
4.Repair,ifneeded
•IfrecordingtotheSDcardstillfails,useext4toformatit.
•Ifalloftheactionsaboefail,contactaxis.com/support.
Latestrmware
Purpose:Makesurethatthecameraisuptodateandhasitsfullpotential.
Werecommendyoutorunthecamerawiththelatestrmware.
Firmwareoptions:
Axisoffersproductrmwaremanagementaccordingtoeithertheactietrackorthelong-termsupport(LTS)tracks.Beingonthe
actietrackmeanscontinuouslygettingaccesstoallthelatestproductfeatures,whiletheLTStracksproideaxedplatformwith
periodicreleasesfocusedmainlyonbugxesandsecurityupdates.
Usingrmwarefromtheactietrackisrecommendedifyouwanttoaccessthenewestfeatures,orifyouuseAxisend-to-endsystem
offerings.TheLTStracksarerecommendedifyouusethird-partyintegrations,whicharenotcontinuouslyalidatedagainstthe
latestactietrack.WithLTS,theproductscanmaintaincybersecuritywithoutintroducinganysignicantfunctionalchangesor
affectinganyexistingintegrations.
Note
Thesupportinothersystems,suchasVideoManagementSoftwaresystems(VMS),isoftendependentonthecamera
rmwareersion.Makesurethesystemsupportsthecamera’srmware.
Actions:
•Checkaxis.com/support/rmware,orcheckwiththeVMSproider,forthelatestaailablermware.
•Ifthereisalaterrmwareersionthantheoneinstalledonthecamera,downloadandinstallit.
Upgradejustonecamerainthesystem.Makesurethatthecameraisworkingproperlyinthesystemandthenupgradeall
theothercameras.
•Toaoidanupgradefailure,forexampleiftheinternetconnectionisslow,dotheupgradethroughalocalconnection.

Domecovercleaning
Purpose:Maintainimagequalityandaoidfocusingproblems.
Actions:
•Forgeneralcleaningofadomecoer,useanon-abrasie,solent-freeneutralsoapordetergentwithwaterandasoft
cloth.Rinsewellwithcleanlukewarmwater.Drywithasoftclothtopreentwaterspotting.
•Fordetailedinstructions,seethedeice’susermanual.
Scratchesandcracksinthedomecover
Purpose:MaintainimagequalityandtheIPratingofthecamera.
Actions:
•Inspectthedomecoerforscratchesandcracks.Ifyoundseerescratchesorcracks,replacethedomecoertoensure
imagequalityandtomaintainthecamera’sIPrating(astableenironmentinsidethecamera).
•Seethedeice’sinstallationguideonhowtoreplacethedomecoer.
•AreplacementdomecoercanbeorderedasasparepartbyanAxisreseller.
Screws
Purpose:KeepthecameraprotectedagainstincidentsandmaintaintheIPrating.

•Inspectthedomeringscrews,thedomebracketscrews,thescrewsthatsecurethecameraonthemountingbracket,and
thescrewsthatsecurethebracketonthewalloronthepole.
•Ifthescrewsareloose,tightenthescrewstopreentincidents,keeptheenironmentalprotectionandlimitibrations
(bracketscrews).Tightenthescrewswithregardstoeachspecictorquealueinthedeice’sinstallationguide.

Generalcameracondition
Purpose:Makesurethatthecamerapartsareintact.Brokenorscratchedpartscouldaffectthecamera’sgeneralperformance.
Actions:
•Cleanthesunshieldandthecameracasingwithanon-abrasie,solent-freeneutralsoapordetergentwithwaterand
asoftcloth.
•Ifthecameraisseerelydamaged,contactaxis.com/supportforguidance,incooperationwiththecameraoperator.
Inspectthebracket
Purpose:Makesurethatthebracketisoperationalandproidesthebestpossibleconditions.
Actions:
•Inspectthebracketandremoeinsectsanddirt.
•IfthecameraisinstalledonanAxisbracket,werecommendinstallingAXIST91A6PipeSealinsidethebracket.This
increasestheleelofprotectionagainstinsects.
Cabling(ethernet)
Purpose:Aoidnetworkandcameraproblems,forexamplepowerdrops,bymakingsurethatthecablingmeetstherequirementsof
yourequipment.
Actions:
•Inspectthecablingtothecameraandmakesurethattheyarenotbentorbrittle.
•Ifneeded,changethecablesorimproethepositioningofthecableruns.

RJ5push-pullconnector(IP66)–validforoutdoormodels(-E)only
Purpose:Maintainthecamera’singressprotectionrating(IPcode).TocomplywiththeIP66-rateddesignofthecameraand
maintaintheIP66protection,thesuppliedRJ45push-pullconnector(IP66)shallbeused.Alternatiely,usetheRJ45IP66-ratedcable
withpremountedconnector(soldseparately).
Actions:
•MakesurethatRJ45push-pullconnector(IP66)isusedandthatitiscorrectlymounted.
-Makesurethattheconnectorisn’tdamagedorlooseinanyway.
-Makesurethattheplasticnetworkconnectorshieldisintactandisstillmountedonthecamera.Theconnector
shieldcannotberemoedfromthecamera.

Purpose:Maintaintheperformanceofthecoolingsystembycleaningtheouterheatsink
Actions:
•Cleantheouterheatsinkaccordingtotheinstructionsinthedeice’sinstallationguide.
Pressurize-validforsteelmodels(-S)only
Purpose:CheckandllthecamerawithNitrogengastwiceayeartopreentcondensation.
Actions:
•Repeatthellingprocessthreetimes.Releasethepressurebetweeneachlling,tomakesurethatallairandhumidityis
purgedfromthehousing.
Note
Thecamerahousinghasanpressurereliefalethatlimitsthellingpressureto0.5bar(7psi).Duringnormalusethe
pressureinsidethecamerahousingmaydropbelowthatpressure.Forfullprotectionmakesurethatthepressureisaboe
0.2bar(3psi).
1.Settheregulatorgaugeonthegascylinderto0.5bar(7psi).
2.Remoethecapsfromtheinletaleandthepressurereliefale.
3.Placethechuckontheinletaleandpressdowntollthecamerawithnitrogen.

6.Repeatthellingprocessatotalof3times,leaingthecamerapressurizedthelasttime.
7.Putthecapsbackontheinletaleandthepressurereliefale.
