AXIS 212 PTZ/-V
This document includes instructions for installing the
AXIS 212 PTZ/-V on your network. Previous experience
of networking will be beneficial when installing the
product.
Legal Considerations
Video and audio surveillance can be prohibited by laws
that vary from country to country. Check the laws in
your local region before using this product for
surveillance purposes.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio
frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. However, there
is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a
particular installation.
If this equipment does cause harmful interference to
radio or television reception, which can be determined
by turning the equipment off and on, the user is
encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or
more of the following measures: Re-orient or relocate
the receiving antenna. Increase the separation
between the equipment and receiver. Connect the
equipment to an outlet on a different circuit to the
receiver. Consult your dealer or an experienced
radio/TV technician for help. Shielded (STP) network
cables must be used with this unit to ensure
compliance with EMC standards.
USA - This equipment has been tested and found to
comply with the limits for a Class B computing device
pursuant to Subpart B of Part 15 of FCC rules, which
are designed to provide reasonable protection against
such interference when operated in a commercial
environment. Operation of this equipment in a
residential area is likely to cause interference, in
which case the user at his/her own expense will be
required to take whatever measures may be required
to correct the interference.
Canada - This Class B digital apparatus complies
with Canadian ICES-003.
Europe - This digital equipment fulfills the
requirements for radiated emission according to limit
B of EN55022/1998, and the requirements for
immunity according to EN55024/1998 residential,
commercial, and light industry.
Japan - This is a class B product based on the
standard of the Voluntary Control Council for
Interference from Information Technology Equipment
(VCCI). If this is used near a radio or television
receiver in a domestic environment, it may cause
radio interference. Install and use the equipment
according to the instruction manual.
Australia - This electronic device meets the
requirements of the Radio communications
(Electromagnetic Compatibility) Standard AS/NZS
CISPR22:2002.

This equipment must be installed and used in strict
accordance with the instructions given in the user
documentation. This equipment contains no
user-serviceable components. Unauthorized equipment
changes or modifications will invalidate all applicable
regulatory certifications and approvals.

Installing the hardware
Refer to the illustration on page 4 for a detailed overview of the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V. Make a note of
the serial number (S/N), which is located on the product label on the base of the camera unit
casing. The serial number is used in the installation.
Wall mount
1. Using the drill template, drill two holes in the ceiling/wall.
2. Route the required cables. See Connect the cables on page 6 for details.
3. Fasten the camera unit using screws and plugs appropriate for the wall material.
4. Proceed to Connect the cables on page 6.
Angled wall mount
1. To install the camera at an angle from the wall, use the angled wall
mount.
2. If necessary, cut the plastic to route the cables to the camera
(AXIS 212 PTZ only).
3. Install the angled wall mount on the wall using the appropriate
screws and plugs.
4. Use the supplied screws (12mm) to attach the camera unit to the
angled wall mount. The camera must be mounted with the network
connector facing upwards.
5. Proceed to Connect the cables, below.
Note:
The AXIS 212 PTZ/-V can be mounted with the network and power cables routed through
the wall or routed through the side openings. There are cover plates for the openings on the
dome casing. The camera must be mounted with the network connector facing upwards.
Ensure that the camera is placed so the tamper-proof screws can be tightened using the
supplied screw driver.
!IMPORTANT! - The casing of the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V is not approved for outdoor use -
the product may only be installed in indoor environments.

Connect the cables
1. Optionally connect external input/output devices, e.g. alarm devices. See page 13 for informa-
tion on the terminal connector pins.
2. Optionally connect an active speaker and/or external microphone.
3. Connect the camera to the network using a shielded network cable.
4. Connect power using one of the methods listed below:
• PoE (Power over Ethernet) via the network cable. This will automatically be detected if
available via the network.
• Connect the supplied indoor power adapter to the power connector on the camera unit.
5. Check that the network, status and power indicators (LEDs) light up green. See the table on
page 14 for LED descriptions.

Assign an IP Address
Most networks today have a DHCP server that automatically assigns IP addresses to connected
devices. If your network does not have a DHCP server the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V will use 192.168.0.90 as
the default IP address.
If you would like to assign a static IP address, the recommended method in Windows is either AXIS
IP Utility or AXIS Camera Management. Depending on the number of cameras you wish to install,
use the method that best suits your purpose.
Both of these free applications are available on the Axis Network Video Product CD supplied with
this product, or they can be downloaded from www.axis.com/techsup
Notes:
• If assigning the IP address fails, check that there is no firewall blocking the operation.
• For other methods of assigning or discovering the IP address of the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V, e.g. in other
operating systems, see page 12.

AXIS IP Utility - single camera/small installation
AXIS IP Utility automatically discovers and displays Axis devices on your network. The application
can also be used to manually set a static IP address. AXIS IP Utility is available on the Axis Network
Video Product CD, or it can be downloaded from www.axis.com/techsup.
Note that the computer running AXIS IP Utility must be on the same network segment (physical
subnet) as the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V.
Automatic discovery
1. Check that the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V is connected to the network and that power has been applied.
2. Start AXIS IP Utility.
3. When AXIS 212 PTZ appears in the window, double-click to open the camera’s home page.
4. See page 10 for instructions on how to set the password.
Set the IP address manually
1. Acquire an unused IP address on the same network segment your computer is connected to.
2. Select the AXIS 212 PTZ in the list.
3. Click the button Assign new IP address to selected device and enter the IP address.
4. Click the Assign button and follow the on-screen instructions. Note that the camera must be
restarted within 2 minutes for the new IP address to be set.
5. Click View Home Page to access the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V web pages.
6. See page 10 for instructions on how to set the password.
Note:
AXIS 212 PTZ-V will display in AXIS Camera Management as AXIS 212 PTZ.

AXIS Camera Management
AXIS Camera Management can automatically discover multiple Axis devices, show connection
status, manage firmware upgrades and set IP addresses.
Automatic discovery
1. Check that the camera is connected to the network and that power has been applied.
2. Start AXIS Camera Management. In the window that appears double-click AXIS 212 PTZ to
open the camera’s home page.
3. See page 10 for instructions on how to set the password.
Assign an IP address in a single device
1. Select AXIS 212 PTZ in AXIS Camera Management and click the
Assign IP button.
2. Assign the following IP address and enter the IP address, the
subnet mask and default router the device will use.
3. Click the OK button.
Assign IP addresses in multiple devices
AXIS Camera Management speeds up the process of assigning IP
addresses to multiple devices, by suggesting IP addresses from a
specified range.
1. Select the devices you wish to configure (different models can be
selected) and click the Assign IP button .
2. Select Assign the following IP address range and enter the range
of IP addresses, the subnet mask, and default router the devices
will use.
3. Click the OK button.
Note:
AXIS 212 PTZ-V will display in AXIS Camera Management as AXIS 212 PTZ.

Setting the Password
1. When accessing AXIS 212 PTZ/-V for the
first time, the ‘Configure Root Pass-
word’ dialog is displayed.
2. Enter a password and then re-enter it, to
confirm the spelling. Click OK.
3. Enter the user name root in the ‘Enter
Network Password’ dialog.
Note: The default administrator user
name root cannot be deleted.
4. Enter the password as set in step 2
above, and click OK. If the password is lost, AXIS 212 PTZ/-V must be reset to the factory
default settings. See page 15.
5. If required, click Yes to install AMC (AXIS Media Control), to allow viewing of the video stream
in your browser. You will need administrator rights on the computer to do this.
6. The Live View page of the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V is displayed, with links to the Setup tools, which
allow you to customize the camera.

Completing the installation
1. Use a blower to remove dust from the lens.
2. Clean the dome with a dry soft cloth to remove dust and finger prints (for AXIS 212 PTZ-V only).
3. Mount the casing using the supplied tamper-proof screws and screw driver.
•AXIS 212 PTZ - if using the AXIS 212 PTZ angled wall mount, hook
the side of the casing onto the tab on the angled wall mount and
secure the dome casing on the other side using a tamper-proof
screw.
•AXIS 212 PTZ-V - if using the AXIS 212 PTZ-V angled wall mount,
place the dome casing onto the angled wall mount making sure
that the dome casing fits into the slot between the two tabs, and
secure the dome casing on the other side using a tamper-proof
screw.

Other methods of setting the IP address
The table below shows the other methods available for setting or discovering the IP address. All
methods are enabled by default, and all can be disabled.
Set the IP address with ARP/Ping
1. Acquire an IP address on the same network segment your computer is connected to.
2. Locate the serial number (S/N) on the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V label.
3. Open a command prompt on your computer and enter the following commands:
4. Check that the network cable is connected to the camera and then start/restart the camera, by
disconnecting/reconnecting power.
5. Close the command prompt when you see ‘Reply from 192.168.0.125: ...’ or similar.
6. In your browser, type in http://<IP address> in the Location/Address field and press Enter on
your keyboard.
Notes:
• To open a command prompt in Windows: from the Start menu, select Run... and type cmd. Click OK.
• To use the ARP command on a Mac OS X, use the Terminal utility in Application > Utilities.

Unit connectors
Network connector - RJ-45 Ethernet connector. Supports Power over Ethernet. Using shielded
cables is recommended.
Power connector - For connection of the PS-H power adapter (included).
Audio in - 3.5mm input for a mono microphone, or for line-in mono signal (left channel is used
from a stereo signal).
Audio out - Audio output (line level), that can be connected to a public address (PA) system or an
active speaker with a built-in amplifier. A pair of headphones can also be attached. A stereo
connector must be used for the audio out.
I/O terminal connector - Used in applications for e.g. motion detection, event triggering, time
lapse recording and alarm notifications. It provides the interface to:
• 1 transistor output - For connecting external devices such as relays and LEDs. Connected
devices can be activated by the VAPIX Application Programming Interface (API), by the out-
put buttons on the Live View page or by an Event Type. The output will show as active
(shown under Event Configuration > Port Status) if the alarm device is activated.
• 1 digital input - An alarm input for connecting devices that can toggle between an open
and closed circuit, for example: PIRs, door/window contacts, glass break detectors, etc.
When a signal is received the state changes and the input becomes active (shown under
Event Configuration > Port Status).

With a maximum load of 50mA and a maximum voltage of 24V DC, this output
has an open-collector NPN transistor with the emitter connected to the GND
pin. If used with an external relay, a diode must be
connected in parallel with the load, for protection against voltage
transients.

deactivate.

Accessing the AXIS 212 PTZ/-V from the Internet
Once installed, your AXIS 212 PTZ/-V is accessible on your local network (LAN). To access the
camera from the Internet, network routers must be configured to allow incoming traffic, which is
usually done on a specific port. Please refer to the documentation for your router for further
instructions.

Resetting to the Factory Default Settings
This will reset all parameters, including the IP address, to the Factory Default settings:
1. Disconnect power from the camera.
2. Press and hold the control button and reconnect power.
3. Keep the control button pressed until the Status Indicator displays amber (this may take up to
15 seconds).
4. Release the control button.
5. When the Status Indicator displays green (which can take up to 1 minute) the process is
complete and the camera has been reset.
6. Re-install AXIS 212 PTZ/-V using one of the methods described in this document.
More information
It is also possible to reset all parameters, except the IP parameters, to the original factory settings
via the web interface. For more information, please refer to the online help and the user’s manual.

Installation du matériel
Reportez-vous à l’illustration de la page 18 pour une vue détaillée de l’AXIS 212 PTZ/-V. Prenez
note du numéro de série (N/S) figurant sur l’étiquette du produit, au dessous du boîtier de la
caméra. Vous aurez besoin du numéro de série pendant l’installation.
Montage mural
1. En vous servant du gabarit de perçage, percez deux trous dans le plafond/mur.
2. Posez les câbles nécessaires. Pour plus d’informations, consultez la section Branchement des
câbles à la page 20.
3. Fixez la caméra au moyen de vis et de chevilles adaptées au matériau du mur.
4. Passez à la section Branchement des câbles à la page 20.
Montage mural d’angle
1. Pour installer la caméra à un angle de mur, utilisez le kit de
montage mural d’angle.
2. Si nécessaire, coupez le plastique afin d’amener les câbles à la
caméra (AXIS 212 PTZ uniquement).
3. Fixez le support de montage mural d’angle au mur à l’aide de vis et
de chevilles adaptées.
4. À l’aide des vis fournies (12 mm), fixez la caméra sur le support de
montage mural d’angle. La caméra doit être montée avec le
connecteur réseau tourné vers le haut.
5. Passez à la section Branchement des câbles, ci-dessous.
Remarque :
Il est possible de monter l’AXIS 212 PTZ/-V en faisant passer les câbles réseau et les câbles
d’alimentation dans le mur ou les ouvertures latérales. Vous trouverez des plaques
d’obturation pour les ouvertures sur le boîtier dôme. La caméra doit être montée avec le
connecteur réseau tourné vers le haut. Veillez à ce que la caméra soit positionnée de telle
manière que les vis inviolables puissent être serrées à l’aide du tournevis fourni.
!IMPORTANT ! Le boîtier de l’AXIS 212 PTZ/-V n’est pas approuvé pour une utilisation
à l’extérieur. Le produit doit être installé en intérieur uniquement.

Branchement des câbles
1. Si vous le souhaitez, vous pouvez connecter des dispositifs d’entrée/sortie externes, tels que des
systèmes d’alarme. Reportez-vous à la page 28 pour plus d’informations sur les broches du
connecteur pour terminaux.
2. Si vous le souhaitez, vous pouvez brancher un haut-parleur actif et/ou un microphone externe.
3. Connectez la caméra au réseau à l’aide d’un câble réseau blindé.
4. Branchez l’alimentation en suivant une des méthodes décrites ci-dessous :
• Alimentation par Ethernet (PoE) à l’aide du câble réseau. L’alimentation par Ethernet sera
automatiquement détectée si elle est disponible via le réseau.
• Branchez l’adaptateur secteur d’intérieur fourni sur le connecteur d’alimentation de la
caméra.
5. Vérifiez que les voyants réseau, d’état et d’alimentation (DEL) s’allument en vert. Pour plus
