and 8709 isthe latter onefeatures
self-calibration by using0033RH/
0075RH salt solutionto maintain the
meter to geta reading .
The front panelof 8708 withTEMP
(F/C) printing ,instead 8709 without
a button withprinting F/C,CAL .

(1)Power on themeter by pressing

might have seen"td","WB" shown
on the screen,however these icons
are only availablefor other models)
, then "HLD" icon will disappearin
one second ,thenafter 3 seconds,
the meter willstart measuring the
temperature and humidityand
display both readingsat the same
time.
POWER ON THE METER
(1) Turn meter on bypressing ON/OFF
button.
(2) Use apen tip topress F/C key
whenever you needto.
Press F/C to convert readingto
desired range. Bothtemperature
and relative humiditymeasurement

(2) The defaultsetting of temperature

(3) To return tomeasuring mode of
current temperature andhumidity,
press and holdMIN/MAX button
until MIN or MAX disappears from
the display.
(4) To clear currentMIN and MAX
readings from memory, press and
hold RESET button until thefull
display flashes .Themeter reading
turns to thenormal measurement
with either MIN or MAX icon , after
about 10 second,the MIN/MAX icon
will disappear automatically.

DATA HOLD FUNCTION
Press hold buttonuntil "HLD" appears
in display. The currentreading is now
being held andwill not changeuntil
Hold function iscancelled. Press
RESET button to cancelHold function.
Hold function canbe used forHumidity
and Temperature .

AUTO POWER OFF

Unit will turnitself off after 20 minutes.
(Sleep mode).To override AutoPower
Off function (Non-Sleep Mode) press
ON/OFF ,MIN/MAX keys simultane-
ously.
After the fulldisplay appears release
ON/OFF button, the displayshows
"n" on thescreen. When "n" appears
then release MIN/MAX button. Unit
will now bein Non-sleep mode.
1. Turn off the meter.
2. Press ON/OFF button. When LCD
displays full readings,press F/C
button with apen tip andthe LCD
shows original temperaturedefault
Cor Fright down thecorner.
3. Press MAX/MIN button to switch
the default Cor F. Press F/C button
to save thenew temperature scale
default and LCDwill first show"S"
then show "%MIN" right upthe corner.
Turn offthe meter.
The procedure iscompleted.

Once the calibrationmode in ON, the
meter will searchthe right humidity
value according tothe current temp-
erature to getmore accurate calibra-
tion.
Before checking thehumidity 33% or
75% , makesure you purchasedmodel
8709 and saltsolution 33% (dark
brown bottle) ,75% ( bluebottle ) as
well as thecarry case, ifyou purchased
model 8708 ,it is themodel not avail-
able for checkingor re-calibration .

1.1. CHECK HUMIDITY 33%
1.1.1. Turn on the meter. Plug unit
in 33% saltreference bottle and
put unit intothe carrying caseas
shown FIG2. Checkthe reading
on LCD after40 minutes. Ifthe
display reads between31.5% and
34.5%, that meansthe meter is
accurate. Otherwise, itneeds
to be recalibrated.
Please calibrate themeter by
following calibration instruction
1.3.A.
1.2.CHECK HUMIDITY 75%
1.2.1. Turn on the meter.Plugunit
in 75% saltreference bottle asyou
do in step1.1.1.Check the reading
on the LCDafter 40 minutes. If the
display reads between73.5% and
76.5%, that meansthe meter is
accurate. Otherwise, itneeds to
be calibrated. Pleasecalibrate the
meter by followingcalibration
instruction 1.3.B

1.3.CALIBRATION
A. CALIBRATION FOR
RELATIVE HUMIDITY 33%
1. Turn off the meter.
2. Press ON/OFF button. When LCD
displays full readings,press F/C
button after pluggingthe meter in
the 33% saltreference bottle for 40
minutes(you have donein 1.a).
3. Press RESET button and theLCD
shows " %MIN ".

4. Press F/C button to savethe cali-
bration value of33%. The LCD
shows "S" for 2seconds and then
the "%MAX" shows rightup the
corner of LCD.
5. Turn off the meter. Thecalibration
of 33% iscompleted.

B .CALIBRATION FOR

1. Turn off the meter.
2. Press ON/OFF button. When LCD
displays full readings,press F/C
button after pluggingthe meter in
the 75% saltreference bottle for 40
minutes.( you havedone in 1.2.1)
3. Press RESET button twice andthe
LCD shows "%MAX" .

AUTO CALIBRATION
a.
If you wantto calibrate themeter
without checking theaccuracy,
Please plug themeter probe into
the 33% saltbottle and thenpower
on the meterby pressing ON/OFF
button and theF/C button at the
same time.
4. Press F/C button to savethe
calibration value of75%. The LCD
will show "S " for 2 secondsand
then resume normalmeasurement
5. Turn off the meter. Thecalibration
of 75% iscompleted.
When LCD screenshows a full
display, release the ON/OFF button.
You will see thedisplay of "C"
and " F" at thelower right cornerof
LCD screen, thenrelease the F/C
button. The LCDwill display only
the default settingof temperature
unit, Cor F.
Press RESET key and youwill see
a "% MIN" display onthe right
upper corner. Please leave the
meter in thebottle for atleast 40
minutes and themeter will start the
auto calibration process.
b.
(8709 only)

When the calibrationfor 33% is
done, you willsee a "MIN " and
"MAX" display onthe LCD screen.
Please remove themeter probe
from the 33%salt bottle andplug
it into the75% salt bottle.
Then press theMIN/MAX button,
you will seea "% MAX" display
on the LCD. Then leave themeter
in the 75%bottle for another40
minutes. When thecalibration for
75% is completed,the meter will
be back tonormal measuring
mode for temperatureand humidity.
You can then removethe meter
from the 75%bottle.
c.
CHANGE BATTERY
(1) Turn off the meter , thenuse a coin
to open thebattery cover.
(2) Put thebattery (CR2032) whose
"+" faces outinto the battery
compartment and placethe battery
cover back andlock it witha coin.
