3. Features
Handle. Adapt-A-Cut® allows a person with any physical
ability/movement the opportunity to cut. The universal
designed handle has 4 unique features that adapt to the
user’s needs. With Adapt-A-Cut® you will experience:
•Increased student motivation and accomplishment
•Decreased dependency on teacher or caregivers
•Less hand fatigue
A. Some users may prefer to use the handle without the
extra adaptations.
A.1 User may grasp left
or right handed.
A.2 User may hold on to the top
portion of the handle, if this is
more comfortable.
B. If grasping the handle is
difficult use the 3/4” Velcro as
a strap to help hold the hand
on the cutter. Note: for more
comfort place the softer side
of the Velcro next to the
user’s skin
.
4. Operating Instructions
Please read and save these important safety instructions.
Cutting Blade. The user will experience cutting ease with a sharp
blade. Keeping the cutting blade sharp will allow people with
physical limitations less hand fatigue. In order to keep the blade
ever sharp you will have to rotate or change the blade. To remove
or change the cutting blade you must follow the directions or injury
could result.
Changing the Blade. Each cutting blade corner is marked with a
1, 2, 3, and 4. Adapt-A-Cut® blade will begin with #1 corner. As
cutting becomes difficult you should change the blade to #2 corner.
•Work over a flat surface away from children. Loosen
the blade screw with the allen wrench provided. Remove
both the screw and blade cover to expose part of the blade.
•Gently push the exposed part of the cutting blade up to
allow the blade to slide out through the blade slot.
•Carefully remove blade, turn to the next numbered corner.
•Replace the blade into the blade slot. Be sure the cutting
corner goes through the paper shelf of the main body and
the middle hole in the cutting blade lines up with the brass
insert.
•Secure the blade by replacing the blade cover and
tightening the screw. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. Over
tightening may break the allen wrench, strip the screw, or
cause damage to the tool.
•Continue working with Adapt-A-Cut®.
Italicized features are visually diagramed on the last page of this
manual.
Features Continued
C. Add the T-Handle for the user if this grasp is more
comfortable. The T-Handle can be added to allow for left
(C.1) or right (C.2) handed users and can also adjust to allow
equal lengths (C.3) to each side of the cutter.
Features Continued
D. For a user who is unable or finds it difficult to grasp the
handle he/she may simply push Adapt-A-Cut®. The user
should gently push the tool by the dimple located close to the
bottom of the handle.
C.1
C.2
C.3
To add the T-Handle line up the groove with the bump inside
the hole of the Main Body handle (C.4). Slide the T-Handle
into the hole of the Main Body handle. Once the T-Handle is
in the correct position gently turn it and lock into place (C.5).
To change the T-Handle’s position reverse these directions.
The 1/2” Velcro can be added through the hole of the T-
Handle (C.6) for more control if needed. Again for comfort
place the softer side of the Velcro next to the user’s skin.
C.4
C.5
C.6
A user who cannot grasp the handle may also have
difficulties holding the paper that will be cut. Another person
will have to hold paper at the appropriate level in order for
the user to successfully cut the paper.
Adapt-A-Hold™ is a partner tool for Adapt-A-Cut® to allow
more independence by holding the paper for the user.
Please continue to check our website for other products.
Operating Instructions Continued
The user will need to learn how to work with Adapt-A-Cut®.
*Adapt-A-Cut® wheels and glide should remain on a flat work
surface for best results. Practice moving the tool with wheels
and glide touching the work surface. Because Adapt-A-Cut®
resembles a vehicle, have the user practice rolling a toy car
and keep the four wheels on the work surface.
* Adapt-A-Cut® can be used to cut paper away from the user
or side to side if the user’s physical movement only allows
one direction for movement.
*Once the user understands the movement of the cutter and
finds the appropriate grasp or grip, he/she may cut paper.
5. Trouble Shooting
If paper seems to be jamming or tearing instead of cutting:
•make sure that user is pushing the tool forward
through the paper
•keep the paper level with the paper shelf, do not push
paper down to the work surface
•change blade
•check to see if the cutting notch is free from fiber
residue
•some paper is more difficult to cut, try papers that
have less texture: magazine paper, Xerox paper, etc
•check to be sure blade is loaded properly
If wheels are not rolling properly
•check to see that the cutting blade has been inserted
correctly and is not placed too deep within the bottom
of the cutter
•check to see that there is nothing caught in the wheel
openings
