BCT 2.0
1. Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your Bacchetta Carbon Trike 2.0, the fastest, lightest and most advanced
trike on the market!
We know you’re excited to get out there and ride, but recommend taking a few minutes to familiarize
yourself with the basics of your new trike. You’ll find this information in the following pages. This is not an
assembly or repair manual and there is no substitute for a good bike/trike shop with the necessary tools and
experience. However, knowing the basics of your trike can go a long way towards troubleshooting issues
should they arise. And, most importantly, knowledge of your trike can keep you safe!

OWNERS MANUAL
BCT 2.0
The most important component of your BCT 2.0 is the frame. Here, we’ll discuss some of the basics of the design
as well as the many functional aspects of the frame and its material, carbon fiber.
BCT 2.0 FRAME- CARBON FIBER OVERVIEW
Carbon fiber is a composite of carbon sheets that are bonded together in a mold using resin. It is, by far, the most
commonly used frame material for higher-end bikes. Bacchetta believes that it is the best material for building
bike and trike frames for three primary reasons. The primary advantage of the material is that at a given stiffness,
carbon fiber is significantly lighter than aluminum, steel, or titanium. A second advantage is that carbon frames do
a better job of absorbing (rather than transmitting) road vibration, which translates into a more comfortable ride.
Third, carbon fiber can be formed into complex shapes, giving bike makers greater creative design latitude as is
evident in your BCT 2.0. This is especially useful when trying to maximize the aerodynamic efficiency of a frame.
And one other thing, because the frame is not metal, your carbon fiber frame won’t corrode!
Using carbon also allows us to create characteristics that just aren’t possible with other materials. We spent
countless hours tweaking the alignment of the individual fibers to engineer different amounts of stiffness in
different areas of the CT2 frame. For example, we make areas like the boom stiffer, but allow for more flex in the
cruciform, to engineer natural shock absorption to make your ride more comfortable.

BCT 2.0 FRAME- FUNCTIONAL ASPECTS
-Integrated seat design with internal storage and seatback torso length adjustability.
The Monocoque frame design allows for a generous internal storage, accessed through the seat bottom
hatch (Pic 1). Uses for the internal storage include tools, water bladders, tubes, etc. For water bladders,
we recommend a smaller bladder inserted into the BCT 2.0 Bladder Bag. Because of Velcro seat foam
attach points on the hatch lid, you can open the hatch lid by simply lifting up the seat foam bottom.
There is no need to fully remove the foam.

To reduce weight, the majority of the BCT 2.0 seat is integrated directly into the frame. The removable
seat back adjust allows for the varying torso lengths of different riders (Pic 2). This unique feature allows
for the best fit possible without adding weight and uses QR’s for quick adjustment and removability.
The included seat foam also allows for quick installation and removal via Velcro attachment. We
recommend removing your seat foam when travelling with your trike on the outside of your vehicle.

-Seat recline. The seat recline of the BCT 2.0 is fixed at 28 degrees. This recline provides optimal
performance levels on flat, rolling and steep hill climbing. The seat angle of the BCT 2.0 cannot be
changed.
-Internal Housing Routing. Cable housings are routed internally in the frame and boom for a cleaner look
and better cable protection.
-Accessory Mounts. On your BCT 2.0 frame you’ll notice several holes/mounting areas, namely the seat
bottom, seat back and rear chainstays.

OWNERS MANUAL
BCT 2.0
-On the seat bottom you’ll find two water bottle cage mount holes on either side (Pic 3).

OWNERS MANUAL
BCT 2.0
You’ll find similar holes on the adjustable seat back (Pic 4). The holes on the seat back are also suitable
for optional accessories such as a flag mount. Also on the upper part of the seat back in the center, you’ll
find elongated slots (Pic 4 also). These are mounting and adjustment zones for the optional BCT 2.0
Custom Headrest.

-Water bladder tube routing hole. When seated, this is located on the upper right chainstay, just behind
the seat (Pic 5). If you choose to carry your bladder in the internal frame storage area, your hose can be
routed through this hole for easy access to the rider.

-Pannier Mount. There are threaded pannier mounts on the rear chainstays of your BCT 2.0 (Pic 6).
These are to be used with BCT 2.0 specific pannier racks.

-Interchangeable Dropouts. The rear dropouts on your BCT 2.0 can interchange between 130mm and
135mm. The trike comes stock from the factory with 130mm rear hub spacing.

4. BCT 2.0 FULL CARBON FIBER ANTI-ROTATION BOOM
-The BCT 2.0 implements a unique teardrop shape. This shape provides both strength and anti-rotation of
the boom without a keyed device which adds weight (keyed device is common on most trikes with anti-
rotation booms).
-The BCT 2.0 adjustable boom allows for seamless leg length adjustment for riders of various sizes with an
X-Seam range of 37” to 48” (X-Seam is a critical measurement in the world of recumbents. See our X-
Seam Guide at www.bacchetta.com). While there are X-Seam markings on the boom (Pic. 7), they are a
guide (a fairly accurate guide) and you may find your X-Seam differing a few millimeters from the markings
on the boom. This is due to variances in methods used to take an X-Seam among other factors.

OWNERS MANUAL
BCT 2.0
-Boom adjustment. Proper boom length adjustment is best done with two people. Start by fully loosening
the 5mm bolts located on the clamps at the boom insertion point on the frame (Pic. 8). Adjust boom
length in and out accordingly to the rider (Note: while small adjustments of a few millimeters should not
affect overall function of the drivetrain via the chain, chain length will affect the ability to make large
boom adjustments and doing so without changing the chain length will affect drivetrain function, which
could cause damage to the frame and rider. Please consider this before making large changes in
adjustment lengths). When finished adjusting to your leg length, tighten boom clamps to specified torque
settings (Torque specifications are found at the end of this manual).

-Front derailleur housing routing with flex noodle. Your BCT 2.0 utilizes internal housing routing. In order
to better bridge the housing exit at the front of the boom and near the front derailleur post, the BCT 2.0
comes stock with a flex noodle to bridge this gap for better shifting performance (See Pic. 7).
-Front light wire port. This hole is mounted on the underside of the boom near the bottom bracket. It
allows for easy routing of wires for a light or computer (Pic. 9).

-Quick Tech: BB is a 68mm, English thread. Front derailleur clamp zone is 31.8mm.
5. BCT 2.0 STEERING ASSEMBLY
-NOTE: The BCT 2.0 steering assembly (including handlebars, headsets, steering rods, wheel uprights,
wheel axle assembly) is very complex and will come dialed in from the factory and is not intended to be
changed by the individual customer. For optimal performance and handling and to avoid serious injury,
we recommend checking the tightness of steering bolts as part of an overall maintenance program.
However, we do not recommend changes to the steering configuration unless necessary. Any changes to
the steering configuration should be made only by an authorized dealer. If you feel in any way your
steering is compromised, do not ride the trike and immediately contact your BCT 2.0 dealer or Bacchetta.
6. BCT 2.0 FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY
-NOTE: All areas of the BCT 2.0 front wheel assembly comes tightened to spec from the factory. The wheel
axle and hub are specific to the BCT 2.0 and should not be removed. We do not recommend removing
the wheels. If the wheels must be removed for any purpose, including damage, please do not ride your
trike and contact an authorized dealer or Bacchetta directly for instructions. Do not try and remove the
wheels or wheel assembly unless given authorization and instructions by Bacchetta.

OWNERS MANUAL
BCT 2.0
-The BCT 2.0 front wheels (and rear) are tubeless ready, but come standard with tubes for better noise
dampening, which will improve your riding experience. Should you choose to run tubeless tires, please
make sure you use the appropriate tire and sealant.
-Quick Tech: Front wheels on the BCT 2.0 are 20” (406) with 28 spoke hubs and 25mm wide rims.
7. BCT 2.0 REAR WHEEL
-Your BCT 2.0 comes with a standard rear bicycle wheel, non-specific to the BCT 2.0 (unlike the front
wheels).
-Custom rear QR/Skewer. Your BCT 2.0 comes with a custom titanium rear skewer. Important: because of
the springy nature of titanium, you are able to tighten the QR with more force which is necessary for
proper function and safety.

8. BCT 2.0 ACCESSORIES- While not a necessity, most accessories can greatly enhance the rider’s experience
and safety. Below are the recommended accessories for your BCT 2.0. Below are the basics, but as we are
constantly adding to this department, we recommend checking our website for any updates in this category.
-Flag and flag mount. A flag is considered a must for any low riding trike. A proper flag will give you a level
of visibility you would not have without it.
-Mirrors. As important as it is to know where you’re going, it’s equally important to know what’s coming
up behind you. The mirrors we offer are the best on the market.
-Headrest. For maximum comfort, most riders would agree that a headrest tops the list. If you suffer from
neck or upper back problems and want to ride long hours, our BCT 2.0 headrest is recommended.
-Rear Fender. A full carbon rear fender which blends into your frame.
-Rear Pannier Rack. While most would not consider a light, full carbon trike a candidate for a rack and
pannier setup, we designed the BCT 2.0 with all riders in mind, including those wishing to commute and
tour. Our specific racks work great for these applications.
