2.7 Safety instructions for abrasive cutting (disc cutting)
applications
a) The protective hood belonging to the power tool must be attached securely
and set to achieve maximum safety, i.e. smaller part of the grinding body is
open in the direction of the operator. Keep yourself and people nearby
outside the level of the rotating grinding disc.
The protective hood is intended to protect the operator from fragments and
accidental contact with the abrasive product.
b) Only use bonded, reinforced or diamond coated cutting discs with your
power tool.
Just because you can attach the accessories to your power tool is not a guarantee
of safe use.
c) The approved speed of the insert tool must be at least as high as the
maximum speed given on the power tool.
Accessories which rotate faster than approved can break and fly off the tool.

EN
| 12 | ABDN 20 | EN | ID No. 10154 | V01 | 2021-11
d) Abrasive products may only be used for their recommended use options.
E.g.: never grind with the side (circular face) of a cutting disc.
Cutting discs are intended for removing material with the edge of the disc. Lateral
forces applied to these abrasive products can cause them to break.
e) Always use undamaged mounting flanges of the correct size and form for the
grinding disc chosen by you.
Suitable flanges support the grinding disc and thus reduce the risk of grinding disc
fracture.
f) Do not use worn grinding discs of large power tools.
Grinding discs for larger power tools are not designed for the higher speeds of
smaller power tools and can break.
g) The outer diameter and thickness of the insert tool must correspond to the
dimensions of your power tool.
Incorrectly dimensioned insert tools cannot be adequately shielded or controlled.
h) Grinding discs and flanges must precisely match the grinding spindle of
your power tool.
Insert tools which do not precisely fit on the rotating spindle of the power tool rotate
irregularly, vibrate severely and can result in loss of control.
i) Never use damaged grinding discs. Before each use, check the grinding
discs for splinters and cracks. If the power tool or grinding disc is dropped
or falls, check whether it is damaged, or use an undamaged grinding disc. If
you have checked and inserted the grinding disc, keep yourself and other
people nearby outside the level of the rotating grinding disc and let the tool
run at maximum speed for one minute.
Most damaged grinding discs break during this test period.
j) Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on the task for which the
tool is used, wear full face protection, eye protection or goggles. If
appropriate, wear a dust mask, ear protectors, safety gloves or a special
apron, which keeps cutting debris, abrasive and material particles away from
you.
Your eyes should be protected against flying foreign bodies which result during
various applications. A dust or breathing mask must filter any dust produced during
the application. If you are exposed to loud noise for a long time, you can suffer
from loss of hearing.
k) Ensure other people keep a safe distance from your work area. Any person
entering the work area must be wearing personal protective equipment.
Broken pieces of the workpiece or broken insert tools can fly off and cause injuries,
even outside the immediate work area.
l) Hold the tool by the handle gripping surfaces only when carrying out work
during which the insert tool can hit concealed electrical cables.
Contact with a live conductor can also energise metal parts of the tool and cause
an electric shock.

EN
A
BDN 20 | EN | ID No. 10154 | V01 | 2021-11 | 13 |
m) Never put down the power tool until the insert tool has come to a complete
standstill.
The rotating insert tool can come into contact with the surface on which the power
tool is placed, which could cause you to lose control of the power tool.
n) Do not leave the power tool running while you are carrying it.
Your clothing can get caught by inadvertent contact with the rotating insert tool and
the insert tool can drill into your body.
o) Regularly clean the ventilation slots of your power tool.
The motor fan draws dust into the housing and a large accumulation of metal dust
can cause electrical hazards.
p) Do not use the power tool near flammable materials.
Sparks could ignite these materials.
q) Do not use any insert tools which require liquid coolant.
The use of water or other liquid coolants could result in an electric shock.
2.8 Kickback and corresponding safety instructions
Kickback is the sudden reaction caused by a rotating grinding disc that gets caught or
is blocked. Entanglement or blocking results in the abrupt stopping of the rotating insert
tool. This causes an uncontrolled power tool to be accelerated against the direction of
rotation of the insert tool at the blocking point.
For example, if a grinding disc gets stuck in the workpiece or becomes blocked, the
edge of the grinding disc that is immersed in the workpiece can get caught and
therefore break out the grinding disc or cause kickback. The grinding disc then moves
towards or away from the person using the tool, depending on the direction of rotation
of the disc at the blocking point. Grinding discs can also break here.
Kickback is the consequence of incorrect or faulty use of the power tool. It can be
prevented by taking suitable precautions, as described in the following.
a) Hold the power tool firmly and position your body and arms so that you can
absorb the kickback forces. Always use the additional handle, if available, to
ensure you have the greatest possible control over kickback forces or
reaction torque while the tool is starting up.
The person using the tool can control the kickback and reaction forces by taking
suitable precautions.
b) Never place your hand near rotating insert tools.
The insert tool can move across your hand during kickback.
c) Keep away from the area in front of and behind the rotating cutting disc.
The kickback drives the power tool in the opposite direction to the movement of the
grinding disc at the blocking point.
d) Take particular care when working in the area of corners, sharp edges, etc.
Prevent insert tools from rebounding from the workpiece and jamming.
The rotating insert tool tends to get stuck in corners, sharp edges or if it rebounds.
This causes loss of control or kickback.

EN
| 14 | ABDN 20 | EN | ID No. 10154 | V01 | 2021-11
e) Never use a chain or toothed saw-blade or segmented diamond disc with
more than 10 mm wide slots.
Such insert tools frequently cause kickback or loss of control of the power tool.
f) Avoid blocking of the cutting disc or excessive contact pressure. Do not
make any excessively deep cuts.
Overloading the cutting disc increases the stresses on it and its susceptibility to
cant or blocking and therefore possibility of kickback, or causes the abrasive
product to break.
g) If the cutting disc sticks or you interrupt the work, switch off the tool and
keep it still until the disc has stopped moving. Never attempt to pull the still
running cutting disc out of the cut, otherwise kickback can occur.
Determine and remove the cause of the jamming.
h) Do not switch the power tool back on while it is still in the workpiece. Allow
the cutting disc to reach its full speed first before carefully continuing with
the cut.
Otherwise the disc can pinch, jump out of the workpiece or cause kickback.
i) Support slabs, boards or large workpieces to reduce the risk of kickback due
to a jammed cutting disc.
Large workpieces can sag under their own weight. The workpiece must be
supported on both sides of the disc, not only near the cut but also at the edge.
j) Be especially cautious in case of "pocket cuts" in existing walls or other
concealed areas.
The plunging cutting disc can cause kickback when cutting gas or water pipes,
electric cables or other objects.
2.9 Further safety instructions for wall chasing
