•PC running a Windows® Operating System with HotSync
Manager installed.

Installing the AutoTap®for Trucks Software
1. Insert the AutoTap for Trucks CD into your PC’s CD-ROM drive.
The installation process starts automatically.
2. If installation does not automatically start, use Windows
Explorer® to navigate to (CD-ROM drive):\setup.exe and
double-click the setup.exe file. The Welcome window displays.
3. Click Next, the license agreement window displays.
4. Click Yes to accept the license agreement and continue
installation. The Choose Destination Location window displays.
5. The installation program automatically chooses to install the
AutoTap for Trucks software at “C:\Program Files\Noregon
Systems\AutoTap for Trucks for PDA.” You may choose another
location by clicking the Browse button, navigating to the desired
location, and clicking OK. Click the Next button to continue the
installation. Choose a user from the list shown, and click the
Next button (if no users are listed, click the Next button). Review
your installation settings, and click the Next button. The Setup
Status window displays to show the progress of the AutoTap for
Trucks software setup.
7. Next, the InstallShield® Wizard Complete window displays to
indicate that the installation has successfully completed. Click
the Finish button to exit setup.
8. Once the PC installation is finished, synchronize your PDA to
transfer the program.

Starting AutoTap®for Trucks
To start using the AutoTap for Trucks software, start your Palm and
find the AutoTap for Trucks application icon (Figure 2).

Tap on the icon to start the AutoTap for Trucks software. The
welcome screen appears (Figure 3).

Tap the appropriate Connect button to have AutoTap for Trucks
connect to the data bus.
Once the user has chosen to connect, a list of available screens is
displayed (Figure 4): ECU List, Data Monitor, and Faults.
Each of these screens will be described in detail on the following
pages.

Screens
ECU List
The ECU List screen (Figure 5) shows the MID/Source Address,
Make, Model, and Software ID for all ECU’s that are actively
communicating.

If there is at least one ECU in the list, AutoTap for Trucks allows the
user to select an ECU to view additional information at the bottom of
the screen: the VIN, the description of the selected ECU, and the
number of historic and active faults for the selected ECU. Three
buttons are available at the bottom of the ECU List screen: View
Faults, Refresh, and Done.

•The View Faults button shows all vehicle faults. There are
two buttons at the bottom of this screen. Clear Faults will
clear all faults on a per ECU basis and Done returns you to
the Screens List.
•The Refresh button clears the ECU List and retrieves a new
list of ECUs currently communicating on the bus.
•The Done button returns the user to the previous screen.
Data Monitor (J1708)

The Data Monitor view (Figure 6) shows the MID, PID and its
associated description, and its current value.
To highlight a row, tap the arrow for that row located in the first
column of the display.
To change the MID for a row, tap the MID value for the associated
row. The next screen (Figure 7) shows a list of available MIDs from
which to choose. Select the MID you wish to use and tap the OK
button located at the bottom of the screen.

To change the PID for a row, tap the PID description value for the
associated row. The next screen (Figure 8) shows a list of available
PIDs to choose from and their descriptions. Select the PID you wish
to use and tap the OK button located at the bottom of the screen.

In order for the complete value of a row to be seen, it may be
necessary to tap on the Value field for that row. A new screen will
be displayed (Figure 9) which will show the MID, PID and the value
details in its entirety.

To clear a row, tap the arrow in the first column to highlight the row
and tap the Clear button at the bottom of the screen.
To clear the entire list, tap the Clear All button at the bottom of the
screen.
To return to the screens list, tap the Done button.

The Vehicle Faults screen (Figure 10) shows all active or historic
faults, depending on which check box is selected. Tap either check
box to save the faults screen show active or historic faults. You can
also Select All or on a per ECU basis.
When viewing the Vehicle Faults screen via a J1708 connection, tap
on a row to see that fault’s FMI, PID and ECU information in the fields
at the bottom of the screen. If any of the descriptions are too long to
be fully displayed, tap the stylus at the end of the description to scroll.
Tap the Clear Faults button to clear either the active or historic faults,
depending on which check box is selected. You can Clear All or on a
per ECU basis. A message will be displayed asking to confirm whether
the faults should be cleared. Tap the OK button to clear, or Cancel to
return to the Vehicle Faults screen. When finished, press the Done
button to return to the previous screen.
About AutoTap®for Trucks

The About AutoTap for Trucks screen (Figure 11) displays copyright
and version information for the AutoTap for Trucks software.
To view the About AutoTap for Trucks screen, tap the menu icon on
the Palm interface. From the dropdown menu that appears, tap the
About AutoTap for Trucks item. Copyright and version information
appears. Tap the OK button to return to the previous screen.
