1.2 Safety Instruction
This section escribes safety precautions, which must be observe when installing an operating a pro uct from
BARCO.
1.2.1 Standards
Safety Re ulations
OV-D2 is built in accor ance with the requirements of the international safety stan ar IEC-60950-1, UL60950-1
an CSA C22.2 No. 60950-1-06, which are the safety stan ar s of information technology equipment inclu ing
electrical business equipment.
The safety stan ar s of information technology equipment impose important requirements on the use of safety
critical components, materials an isolation, in or er to protect the user or operator against the risk of electric
shock an energy hazar , an having access to live parts.
Safety stan ar s also impose limits to the internal an external temperature rises, ra iation levels, mechanical
stability an strength, enclosure construction an protection against risk of fire.
Simulate single fault con ition testing ensures the safety of the equipment to the use even when the
equipment’s normal operation fails.
1.2.2 General safety instructions
•All the safety an operating instructions shoul be rea before using this unit.
•The operating instruction manual shoul be retaine for future reference.
•All warnings on the evice an in the ocumentation manuals shoul be a here to.
•All instructions for operating an use of this equipment must be followe precisely.
1.2.3 Installation
Installation an preliminary a justments shoul be performe by qualifie BARCO personnel or authorize BARCO
service ealers.
1.2.3.1 Power Connection
This pro uct shoul be operate from an AC power source. Power input is auto ranging from 100V to 240V.
Check the power ratin on your outlet before connectin the devices to the wall outlet or
to a power strip. Contact your facilities mana er or a qualified electrician if you are not
sure what type of power is supplied to your buildin .
All equipment in the system is equippe with a 3-wire groun ing plug, a plug having a thir (groun ing) pin.
This plug will only fit into a groun ing-type power outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the
plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not efeat the purpose of the
groun ing-type plug.
The devices are desi ned to operate with sin le-phase power systems havin a rounded
neutral conductor. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, do not plu into any other type of
power system.
Use only the power cor supplie with your evice. While appearing to be similar, other power cor s have not
been safety teste at the factory an may not be use to power the projector. For a replacement power cor ,
contact your ealer.
If an extension cor is use with this pro uct, make sure that the total of the ampere ratings on the pro ucts
plugge into the extension cor oes not excee the extension cor ampere rating.

Also make sure that the total of all pro ucts plugge into the wall outlet oes not excee 15 amperes.

•The cor set must be UL-approve an CSA-certifie .
•The minimum specification for the flexible cor is No. 18 AWG Type SVT or SJT, 3-con uctor.
•The cor set must have a rate current capacity of at least 10A.
•Do not allow anything to rest on the power cor . Do not locate this pro uct where people will walk on the
cor . To isconnect the cor , pull it out by the plug. Never pull the cor itself.
•If an extension cor is use with this pro uct, make sure that the total of the ampere ratings on the pro ucts
plugge into the extension cor oes not excee the extension cor ampere rating.
•Never push objects of any kin into this pro uct through cabinet slots as they may touch angerous voltage
points or short out parts that coul result in a risk of fire or electrical shock.
•Never spill liqui of any kin on the pro uct. Shoul any liqui or soli object fall into the cabinet, unplug the
set an have it checke by qualifie service personnel before resuming operations.
•Lightning - For extra protection for this vi eo pro uct uring a lightning storm or when it is lift unatten e
an unuse for a long perio of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent amage to the unit
ue to lightning an AC power-line surges.

1.2. Placement
Place the evice in a well-ventilate area away from sources of ignition an out of irect sun light. Never expose
this pro uct to rain or excessive moisture
Slots an openings in the cabinet or bottom are provi e for ventilation; to ensure reliable operation of the
pro uct an to protect it from overheating, these openings must not be blocke or covere .
Exposing flammable or combustible materials into close proximity of this evice coul result in the spontaneous
ignition of that material, resulting in a fire. For this reason, it is absolutely necessary to leave an "exclusion zone"
aroun all external surfaces of the evice whereby no flammable or combustible materials are present. The
exclusion zone must be not less than 10 cm (4").

1.2.5 Operation

During operation, the equipment ra iates heat on its external surfaces an from ventilation ucts, which is both

•Do not cover the equipment with any material while the equipment is in operation.
•Do not block the cooling fans or free air movement un er an aroun the evice.
•Keep flammable an combustible materials away from the evice at all time.
In the event of fire, use san , CO2, or ry pow er fire extinguishers; never use water on an
electrical fire.

1.2.6 Servicing
Never open the case of a device without first disconnectin the power supply cord!
Measurements and tests with an opened device may be carried out only in the factory or
by specially trained personnel, due to the dan ers of electrical shock.
Do not attempt to service this evice yourself, as opening or removing covers may expose you to angerous
voltage potential an risk of electric shock! Refer all service to a qualifie BARCO service center.
Always have service performe on this pro uct by authorize BARCO service personnel. Always insist on genuine
BARCO replacement parts. Never use non-BARCO replacement parts as they may egra e the safety of this
evice.

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this unit, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to
etermine that the unit is in proper operating con ition.
1.2.7 Unpacking of Devices

1.2.8 Modification of Devices
Mechanical or electrical mo ifications must not be ma e to the evices. BARCO is not liable for amages
resulting from mo ifie evices.
1.2.9 Cleaning instructions screens and mirrors
Wash with a solution of mil soap or etergent an lukewarm water. Use a clean lint-free soft cloth applying
only light pressure. Rinse with clean water an ry by blotting with a amp lint-free cloth or chamois.
Always use a clean,new, lint-free cloth for cleanin the screens’s front side. Do not clean
with the same cloth used for the beaded side. The used cloth ma contain bead particles,
which could scratch the screen’s front surface
Do not use the followin cleanin cleanin a ents, since these can scratch or detoriate
the screen surface:
Window cleanin sprays, kitchen scourin compounds, sovlents such as acetone, asoline,
benzene, alcohol, carbon tetrachloride or lacquer thinner.

2Pre-Installation requirements
2.1 Power and grounding
Attention has to be pai to the electrical installation. Earth current loops in the installation must be avoi e . The
neutral power con uctor of the electrical net an the groun ing con uctor must be separate .
All circuits have to use the same groun level (also in irectly connecte equipment). If possible all circuits shoul
come from the same phase.
Each projector has specific power requirements. (see technical specification projectors) Enough circuits have to be
available. These circuits have to be fuse (16A typical for 220V). The number of projectors starting up
concurrently must be limite . One coul for instance install an automatic circuit that starts up all the projectors in
batches per circuit, leaving 3 secon between the ifferent batches. (Not stan ar elivere )
The projectors shoul be kept away from strong sources of magnetic fiel s.
Fuse circuits for the graphic generator equipment have to be installe . The number epen s on the amount of
installe equipment.
Some of the graphic generator equipment functions as a Unix workstation. It must not be powere off without
carefully closing all the applications. If these units are switche off uring normal operation without this
precaution, there is a risk that the file system gets corrupte an it becomes unusable. Therefore it is strongly
suggeste to provi e a non-interruptible Power Supply (UPS) to power these units.
A itional groun ing points must be foreseen for the isplay wall construction, racks an other mechanics.
Power outlets for installation purposes are require as well. All connections, power, network shoul be available
an functional before start of the installation.
2.2 Environmental conditions
2.2.1 General conditions
The temperature an the humi ity in the control room have to be controlle on the both si es of the wall.
The screens require a temperature between 10 an 40 gc an humi ity between 40 – 80 % RH. The maximum
temperature fluctuations have to be limite up to 5 gc per hr.
The projector units operate between 0 an 40 gc. The thermal issipation of the projector units has to be taken
in consi eration. The projector units have built-in temperature etection an will switch off automatically when
the temperature limits are excee e .
The graphical generator equipment operates between 0• an 40 gc. In case these pro ucts are mounte in a
rack the max room ambient temperature has to be limite to max 25 gc or a itional force cooling has to be
foreseen in the rack.
The materials an pro ucts can be store between -30 an 65 gc an humi ity below 95 % RH, non-
con ensing. Screens have to be store below 40 gc.
24hrs prior to installation the screens have to acclimatize to the control room con itions. They can stay in their
protective packaging uring this acclimatize perio .
The temperature an humi ity con itions in the control room must be within specification uring installation an
maintaine afterwar s.
The room has to be ust-free uring the installation an maintaine afterwar s. The control room must have an
acceptable ust class of 100000 or better. (100000 particles of 0.5µm or larger per cubic feet, comparable with
clean esk room).
All construction, reconstruction, ecoration activities must be complete before the installation of the system.
However the trim aroun an integrate wall can only be mounte after completion of the wall. All precaution
shoul be taken to avoi any amage uring the mounting of the final trim. The purchaser bears the
responsibility for any amage or egeneration uring this operation.
The air pressure within the control room has to be the same on the both si es of the wall.

2.3 Floor requirements
Sufficient floor space an maintenance area must be available when installing a isplay wall. (see applicable
rawing an Access)
The floor must have sufficient loa carrying capability to withstan weight istribution for all feet (see technical
specifications mechanical construction). It must not sag by more than 1 mm un er the loa of the isplay wall.
No installation (venting ucts, sockets etc.) must be present in the floor in the area of the feet. (A vice: An area
of at least 150mm must be kept free aroun each foot.)
The total construction has to be fixe to the floor. Typical, M10 plugs will be mounte in holes in the floor. If
raise floor (false floor) is use , it’s a vise to put the construction on the concrete floor un erneath.
2. Luminance
Light falling irectly on the screen will negatively influence the resulting contrast level. The esign of the
lighting shoul avoi as much as possible light falling irectly on to the screen. The real performance of the
projectors will be etermine by the light con ition on the screen. A goo contrast ratio is guarantee with light
input irectly on the screen not more than 50 lux.
There are no constraints on the luminance on e.g. the operator positions.
Light behin the wall is require for installation an service. During normal operations all lights behin the wall
must be switche off. All aylight must be avoi e as well.
Bright colors for the ceiling, the walls an floor surroun ing the screen have to be avoi e . Do not use reflecting
materials for the ceiling, the walls an floor surroun ing the screen.
Sufficient lighting in the projection room is require uring installation.
2.5 Access
The buil ings have to be accessible uring exten e straight time, 6AM – 12PM, 7 ays per week.
From the elivery point to the installation site, the oors an passages require a minimum wi th of 1500mm
an height of 2000mm for an installation.
In case the projection-room is locate on the groun floor the room nee to be accessible with any trolley.
In case the projection-room is locate on a floor level an elevator is require .
The elevator nee s a minimum entrance an cabin size of 1500 x 1800 x 1200mm (wi th x height x epth). The
support power must be 1000 kg minimum. The elevator must be available uring the installation perio .
2.6 Installation and room requirements.
In case the isplay wall is integrate in a wall, the gap between screen an wall must be constructe as etaile
in the mechanical rawings (front, top, an si e view). Typical 100mm before mounting of the trim.
The installation room must be sufficiently high. Sufficient space (recommen e > 200mm) must be provi e
above the isplay wall.
A system responsible must be available uring the installation for practical arrangements an safety reasons.
Free telephone access nee s to be available for local communication.
2.7 Footprint
This footprint can be use to help you set out the wall configuration the room where the wall will be installe .
2.8 Overall dimensions
The installation room must be sufficient high. Sufficient space (recommen e >200mm from top of the screen to
finishe ceiling) must be provi e above the isplay wall. The stan ar support with a justable feet results in
the lower screen e ge to be at a istance of 1200mm. Other heights are available on request with a minimum of
540mm.

2.9 Maintenance Area
Behin the isplay wall a service area is require . This area has to be at least 6000mm. Please note that there
may be laws concerning safety stan ar s in your country which require having a larger service area!
All maintenance an service work is one from the rear of the system.
The isplay wall can have a linear or a curve arrangement. With a curve esign, the in ivi ual systems are
built up with angle connection plates. The angle between two columns can be 0°, 3°, 5°, an 8°.
2.10 Built-in configuration
When the OV isplay wall is integrate in a wall, min the following recommen ations: Leave a gap of 100mm
aroun the screen. Make sure to take the istance from the lower screen e ge to the floor into account (stan ar
supports feature a height of 875mm, 1000mm, or 1200mm, respectively.)

3Mechanical setup
3.1 Tools needed for installation
•1 rilling machine an a rill 4.9mm
•1 set of screw rivers (Torx)
•1 right-angle torx key size 30
•1 allen key size 5
•1 allen key size 6
•1 tape measure (10m)
•1 tape measure (2m)
•1 water level
To buil up the mechanics of the OV series it is recommen e to use a cor less screw river: the screws are self
tapping an the threa is cut while screwing them in.
If you have to unscrew, an screw in again, take care not to amage the threa ! In case you have ifficulties in
screwing in the screw, turn slightly into the opposite irection until the screw fin s its threa . Only then procee
with screwing in.
To connect profiles, KANYA connectors are use . The following explanation refers to all KANYA connecting
systems.
Insert the cross piece in the bore
hole of the profile
Insert the anchor with the spring
into the centre hole of the profile
Push the anchor hea into the
longitu inal slot of the counter
profile. Rotate by 90°. Tighten the
allen screw.
With the OV-series, both, the anchor an the cross piece are alrea y mounte into the respective profiles.

Scope of delivery
The mechanics of the OV series comprises three main components: the pe estal, the isplay mo ule, an the
screen mo ule. The basic mechanics is complete by the trim components an the project specific components.
The projection mo ule of course also requires the functional components, e.g. the projection unit, the
illumination unit, an the internal cabling.
.1 Pedestal
For OV-508, OV-513, OV-515 there a three stan ar pe estals, resulting in a lower screen e ge of 875mm,
1000mm, an 1200mm. Pe estals with a customize height are also available.
For all pe estals the components an the setup follow the same principle. In the manual, installation is shown
for the stan ar pe estal unit 875mm.
.2 Display Module
OV-508 an OV-515 employ the same isplay mo ule, since they both have a isplay ratio of 4:3. Due to the
ifferent isplay ratio of the SXGA version (5:4), OV-513 employs a ifferent isplay mo ule.
However the components an the setup follow the same principle.
.3 Screen Module and Trim
The OV series is available with ifferent screens to fulfill virtually all requirements wrt brightness an viewing
angles. All screens are base on the same principle an are complete by a stan ar an esign trim.
. Projection Unit (PU)
The projection unit is the core of the OV system an esigne for easy installation an a justment. The SXGA
system (OV-513) an the SXGA+ system (OV-515) employ the same projection unit; only the require pixels
(1280x1024 an 1400x1050, respectively) are a resse .
.5 Illumination Unit (IU)
The illumination unit is esigne as a ual lamp system an employs a 120/132 W lamp. Changing the type of
the lamp is one via the web interface or the Barco Control Manager software. No mechanical intervention like
setting jumpers is require . The fan mo ule is integrate in the IU.

There are three types of cabling: power cabling, LAN cabling, Data cabling. Power cabling provi es the require
operating voltages: LAN cabling comprises LAN cables an a switch an is use both, to communicate with one
unit as well as for intersystem communication (e.g. a justment of all projection mo ules of a isplay wall to one
brightness an one color, respectively). The ata cabling connects the projection unit with the controller.

Although built as a mo ular system, there are some components which are only require once per isplay wall
or once per column. These components are configure on a project bases an a e to the elivery in a so-calle
project specific kit.

5Installation
5.1 OverView
Installation of a isplay wall starts with installation of all pe estals. When the pe estals are installe an all
columns are connecte , levele an aligne , the ark boxes are setup. Subsequently the screens are mounte .
Finally the projection unit, the illumination unit are installe . After the cabling is complete , the optical
a justment is one. Finally the trim an shiel ings are mounte .
Throughout the manual, "left" an "right" means left an right as seen from front of the isplay wall.
There are several kin s of screws use for setting up OV-D2 systems. The following table shows the require
torque for fixing the screws. When tightening screws, please stick to these values!

Step 01
Please note:
Left an right refers to the vi eo wall as seen from
front.
Assemble the right si e of the pe estal.
One of the profiles PU I 7 is equippe with 3 more
counter nuts than the other. This profile must be
installe at the left si e of the pe estal! The counter
nuts are use to fix the angle with the multi power
strip!
Step 02
It is very important that the profiles fit exactly
together.
Step 03
Assemble the left si e of the pe estal.
Make sure to mount the PU I 7 with the a itional
counter nuts on top!
