Clarification of the term “R-series” used in this document
When referring in this document to the term “R-series” means that the content is applicable for following Barco products:
•R7
•R10
Clarification of the terms “LED sheet”, “LED product”, “LED screen” and “LED board” used in this
document
The certification / safety marks only cover the R-Series products with its contents described hereunder. Additional optional
parts are not part of the R-series product certifications
An R-Series LED sheet is a thin sheet with a visible LED area of 26 or 52 cm wide and maximum 468 cm long. An LED sheet also
contains 1–2 termination box(es) and 1–2 connection box(es), depending on the width of the LED sheet. An LED sheet of 26 cm
wide has 1 of both termination and connection box; an LED sheet of 52 cm wide has 2 of both termination and connection boxes.
Because of the variable length and width of a LED sheet, it can contain from 1 up to 24 LED boards. Each LED board is approxi-
mately 26 cm wide and 39 cm long. A LED sheet can be up to 12 LED boards high (12 x 39 cm = 468 cm) and up to two LED boards
wide (2 x 26 cm = 52 cm).
An R-Series product can consist of an R-Series LED sheet and one or two power supply units (PSUs), depending on the width:
• One LED board wide: one PSU (see example B, image 1-1)
• Two LED boards wide: two PSUs (see example C)
Because it is paper thin, multiple R-Series products linked together form an LED screen instead of a “wall” (See example A).

any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, the apparatus does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
• Use only with systems or peripherals specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. Use caution during lifting/moving
or transporting to avoid damage by the sheet being subject to wind.
• Do not use damaged LED sheets.
1.3 Important warnings
Important warnings:
Risk of electric shock:
Do not open the enclosures. To reduce the risk of electric shock you should not cut the LED sheet, nor should you remove the
termination or any LED board. No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.
Maximum and minimum ambient temperature:
The maximum ambient temperature for the LED screen in operational mode is 45°C (113°F), the minimum temperature is -20°C
(-4°F). This temperature has to be measured close to the LED screen.
If the LED screen hangs in direct sunlight it is the responsibility of the customer to provide a shadow trim, providing sufficient shadow
for the connections box and PSU. If not provided, the correct working of the connections box cannot be guaranteed. take note that
the provided trim should not block the natural convection.
Low Voltage Surge Protection Device required
Due to the damaging effects of lightning, utility switching and switching electric motors of other users on the mains, this product
needs to be protected by means of a Surge Protection Device. Make sure that a Low Voltage Surge Protection Device according
EN61643-11 or UL 1449 is in place.
High leakage current:
In order to avoid risk of electric shock due to high leakage current, proper grounding of the installation is required. Do this according
to local regulations.
Flammable materials:
R5906040 R-SERIES 16/02/2017 3

1. Safety & Environmental Information
Keep flammable materials away from the installation (such as curtains). A lot of energy is transferred into heat. The installation
should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised. Proper ventilation must
be provided.
ESD and LEDs:
LED components used in R-Series LED sheets are ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) sensitive. To prevent the possibility of destroying
LED components do not touch either in operation or while switched off.
Risk of electric shock / Risk of fire:
To protect against risk of fire caused by overloading of power cables, each power source cable should be protected by a type D
circuit breaker rated 16 A / 250 VAC (20 A / 250 VAC in the USA and Canada).
For the 200–240 VAC range up to three PSUs can be connected to one circuit at the same time. For the 100–130 VAC range up to
two PSUs can be connected to one circuit at the same time.
Disconnect device:
The socket outlets supplying one or more R-Series products shall be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible, or a
readily accessible general disconnect device must be incorporated in the fixed wiring.
Unplug / disconnect all mains input connections to remove all power from the R-Series products.
The disconnect device shall simultaneously interrupt all poles of the AC mains supply, except for the earthing conductor. This shall
be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.
This equipment MUST be earthed:
In order to protect against risk of electric shock, the installation should be properly grounded according to local regulations. Defeating
the purpose of the grounding type plug will expose you to the risk of electric shock.
Power system:
It is recommended to use a TN-S power distribution system (a power distribution system with a separate neutral and grounding
conductor) in order to avoid large ground current loops due to voltage differences in the neutral conductor. The total electrical
installation should be protected by an appropriately rated disconnect switch, circuit breakers, over voltage protector and Ground Fault
Current Interrupters. The installation shall be done according to the local electrical installation codes. In Europe special attention
should be given to HD 60364, Harmonization Document for electrical installation of buildings. In Germany VDE 0100 should be
adhered to. In America, special attention should be given to the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.
Data cables:
The data cables provided with this system have special properties for safety. They are not user serviceable. If the data cables are
damaged, replace them only with new ones. Never try to repair a data cable. Per requirements of the National Electrical Code® in
the USA , the length of a data cable must not exceed 100 m (328 feet). Avoid exposure of data cables to accidental contact with
lightning or power conductors.
Only use data cables provided by Barco. The diameter of the cables provided by Barco is chosen to fit the connection box. Only
these cables can guarantee the water tightness of the system.
Mains cords:
The power cords delivered with this system have special properties for safety; they are not user serviceable. If the power cords are
damaged, replace them only with new ones. Never try to repair a power cord.
LEDs:
The LEDs used on the R-series sheets are fragile. Never push with a hard or sharp object onto the lens of the LED as this may
cause damage to the LED. The maximum allowed load upon the lens of the LED is 300 gram/LED, but only a force perpendicular to
the screen surface is allowed. Be careful when installing a shader upon the R-series sheet. Shaders fit in one of two directions and
the orientation should be verified before pushing into final position. Use your bare fingers (not nails) to press the shader over the
LEDs. Use your finger nails to press upon the framework of the shader between the LEDs (not upon the LEDs) to push the shader
in its final position.
Do not hot plug:
Do not hot plug any cables. Damage to the connector pins may occur. Resulting damage is not covered under warranty.
Base surface:
The R-Series LED sheets cannot be directly installed on the wall. An electrically grounded aluminium back plate must be
installed between that wall and the LED sheets.
To ensure a correct thermal expansion (CTE) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), Barco provides a solution with Reynobond®
panels, a specific foam tape and various installation brackets. These optional parts are added externally to the certified R-series
product.
When not using this Barco verified solution the following needs to be taken into account:
• Only install base surfaces consisting of noncombustible material or self-extinguishing material.
• Make sure the LED sheets are not accessible for non-qualified personnel.
• Makesuretoprovidesufficient extra mechanical safeties (e.g. safety cables) according to local regulations.
Loosening
4R5906040 R-SERIES 16/02/2017

1. Safety & Environmental Information
If the LED screen would loosen from the back plate (for example, because of wrongfully used adhesive or back plate), you must cut
the power to the LED screen.
In this case, let the LED screen be repaired by qualified service personnel.
1.4 Proper usage
Proper usage of R-Series Products
• No part of the R-series product can come in contact with any type of corrosive substance.
• Using the R-series product in an environment with high corrosive gasses (e.g. Sulphur) can lead to discoloration of the materi-
als. This discoloration gives a change in brightness of the product. This could lead to uniformity differences and possibly also
to failures. Each use of the product in this kind of environment needs to be checked up-front with the supplier.
• R-series products are to be used in environments meeting the operating specifications.
• R-series products are not to be used in environments that are subject to airborne contaminants such as that produced by smoke
machines (cracked oil) or similar (these deposit a thin layer of greasy residue upon the LEDs optics, degrading performance).
• R-series products are not to be exposed to extreme localized heat or cold exceeding the temperature specifications.
• R-series products are not to be exposed to any element or situation that will cause any part of the display to heat beyond
what occurs during normal operation. Such situations include but are not limited to lasers, ultrasonic vibration, or any type of
substance that prevents proper ventilation and heat radiation of the R-series sheets.
• Power connected to the R-series products must meet the specifications outlined in the installation manual.
• Avoid any accidental bumping of the sheet edges while installing or removing the R-series products. Since LEDs of the R-series
products are mounted close to the edges of the LED sheet, which is unavoidable in the design, the edges of the R-series
products become sensitive for mechanical damage. Therefore it is required to handle the R-series products with care at all
times.
• Never place an R-series product upon a surface with the LEDs facing downwards without protection. This to prevent damage
to the LEDs.
• R-series products which are not installed and which are not securely stored in an R-series wooden crate (large sizes) or card-
board box (smaller sizes), may only be placed horizontally upon flat surfaces free of clutter.
• No force can be applied to the LEDs. Any LEDs damaged due to mechanical stress are not covered by the warranty.
• Safety and functional features of the screen may not be defeated.
• Nothing is allowed to hang from the cables of an R-series product.
• Any failures must be immediately and appropriately dealt with (equipment returned to Barco). Failing equipment cannot be left
to run in an LED screen.
• No additional tools (hammers, pry-bars, etc.) are to be used to force LED products into place. All moving parts should be
managed by hand.
• Only Barco cables specified to be used with the R-series products are to be used to connect components in the R-series screen.
Further, care must be taken to connect signal only according to the installation manual.
• R-series products are not to be used in the vicinity of any equipment that is not CE and UL/ETL certified.
• R-series products are not to be transported for any distance in containers other than Barco wooden crates or Barco single unit
packaging. Further, even the use of Barco packaging material does not guarantee the R-series products against damage due to
excessive force of impacts. All warranty claims regarding damaged R-series products due to incorrect packing will be rendered
invalid.
• R-series products are not to be connected to any non-Barco equipment.
• When reconnecting components in an R-series product, care must be taken to ensure that cables are carefully routed according
to the installation manual to prevent damage to the cables or other parts of the R-series product.
• R-series products can be cleaned only in accordance to the procedures defined in the R-series service manual.
• Ensure rigging hardware is able to handle the weight of the entire R-series products with appropriate safety factors.
• External rigging hardware must be properly installed prior to hanging R-series products.
• When lifting LED sheets, make sure to lift every sheet in a symmetrical way. The forces should be evenly distributed over the
whole width of the LED sheet. Asymmetrical load must be avoided at all time.
• Check if every R-Series LED sheet in the setup is used according to the wind speed table (see installation manual). Contact
Barco if needed.
