Battery Charger Manual
For your personal safety read, understand and follow
the information provided in this instruction manual.

Important Safety Instructions
WARNING!
To avoid any personal injury, please read the safety instructions below.
This battery charger is not intended for use by children or inrm persons without supervision.
• The ACID/FLUID within a battery is highly corrosive and poisonous. It can produce ammable
and toxic gases when recharged and will explode if ignited, When working with batteries,
always wear eye protection, remove jewellery and ensure the area is well ventilated. If spilt
- it will cause severe burning to eyes, skin, clothing, damage paintwork and corrode many
metals. Ensure that power is disconnected from any appliance in the vicinity of the spill and
immediately wash any area that has been aected with water.
• DO NOT allow battery acid to mix with salt water. This will produce chlorine gas which may
be deadly.
• For automotive & marine 12 volt use only, not to be used with dry cell batteries.
• During the charging process, do not use a naked ame near a battery. Batteries generate
explosive gases during the charging process that may explode.
• Never smoke or light cigarettes near a battery.
• Do not place tools on top of a battery or allow tools to fall on the battery to prevent the
chance of a short circuit and sparks.
• Always wear eye protection when charging a battery.
• Ensure charging and testing is undertaken in a well-ventilated area.
• Ensure the chargers ventilation holes are not obstructed. Inadequate ventilation may over-
heat the charger and cause in-ecient operation.
• This battery charger is not intended for outdoor operation. Do not expose it to moisture or
extreme weather conditions.
• The battery charger contains hazardous voltages. There are no user serviceable components
inside. If the AC supply cord is damaged, in order to avoid a hazard it must be replaced by the
manufacturer, service agent or equally qualied person.
• Examine the battery charger regularly for damage, especially the cord, plug and enclosure. If
the battery charger is damaged, it must not be used until it has been repaired.
NOTE:
The warnings, cautions and instructions detailed in this instruction manual cannot cover all
possible conditions and situations that may occur. Common sense and caution should be used
by the operator at all times.

Key Charger Features
The MCU025 is a sophisticated multi stage pulse charger, designed to charge most 12 Volt SLA,
Lead Acid, Gel and Calcium batteries.
FULLY
CHARGED
CHARGING POWER
•Ideal for automotive & marine batteries.
•Fully automatic multi stage charging.
•Pulse mode technology that reduces oxidation, evens electrolyte consistency and minimizes
temperature equating to longer battery life.
•Compatible with GEL, Calcium, Deep Cycle, SLA and conventional ooded lead-acid
batteries.
•Internal charger temperature monitoring and power output control.
•LED indicators show charging and oat.
•Zero volt minimum battery start up – can charge a completely at battery.
•Over charging, short circuit and over temperature protection.
•Reverse polarity protection.
•As a Gel, Lead Acid, SLA and Calcium battery charger, the unit provides a safe method of
restoring discharged batteries, through a multi stage charging process.
•Heavy duty design.
MULTI-STAGE CHARGERMULTI-STAGE CHARGER
Suitable for negatively (-) grounded vehicles where the negative lead from the battery is
connected to the vehicle chassis or engine block.

Operating the Charger

CHARGING POWER
Connecting the charger to a battery in a vehicle:
Ensure the ignition and all of the accessories in the vehicle are switched o. This will maxi-
mize the charge your battery receives. It will also minimize any chance of damage occurring
to the vehicles on-board electronics.
1. Inspect the electrolyte levels in the battery and top up if required. This step does not apply
to maintenance-free batteries.
2. Connect the red positive (+) lead of the battery charger to the positive (+) post of the
battery.
3. Connect the black negative (-) lead of the battery charger to negative (-) post of the
battery.
4. Plug the battery charger into an AC outlet then switch on mains power to activate the
charger.
5. When“Power”LED light is illuminated this indicates the battery charger is active and
ready to use.

Charging Stages
Boost/Absorption Stage:
After connecting and turning the mains power on, the unit will commence charging. This is
indicated by the illuminated“Charging”LED. The battery charger delivers a Boost current up
to 2.5 amps. When the battery is 80% charged, the charger will automatically switch to the
“oat stage”. (The battery should now be capable of starting a vehicle.)
Float Stage:
After the Boost/ Absorption stage, the battery charger output current is now reduced. The
battery is slowly brought up to a 95% recharged state and is then constantly maintained
at this level. By monitoring the battery voltage the charger continues to top up the battery,
keeping it charged and ready for use. You can leave the charger connected to the battery
without risk of overcharging.
Disconnecting the charger from a battery:
1. Always turn o and unplug the charger from the mains power supply before making or
breaking connection to the battery.
2. Remove the black negative (-) then the red positive (+) of the battery charger from the
battery or unplug the terminal connector lead.
3. Re-inspect the electrolyte levels in the battery and top up if required (non-maintenance
free and non-sealed battery types only).

Fault Finding
»Charger won’t indicate
charging.
»No spark when charging
clamps or terminals
touch together.
»Multimeter will not
provide a reading
between charging
clamps prior to
connection to battery.
»Battery won’t fully
charge or hold charge.
»• Charger not connected to battery.
• Check terminal connection.
• Battery is not 12V.
»Charger features an inbuilt safety device to prevent sparking if
clamps or terminals accidentally touch together.
»A multimeter voltage reading will only be provided when the charger
is connected to the battery.
»Batteries that are over 3 years old; severely discharged (or previously
been severely discharged) ; not regularly recharged; over- heated;
low in electrolyte ; undercharged: overcharged or sulphated may not
accept or hold a charge. A good automotive store or battery outlet
often oer a free or low cost in store service to check condition of
battery. Your battery may require replacement.
