Most heating appliances generate warm air convection currents and
transfer heat to any wall surface against which they are situated.
Some soft furnishings (such as blown vinylwallpapers) may not be
suitableforuse where they are subjectto temperatures above normal
room levels and the manufacturer's advice should be sought before
using thistype of wallcovering adjacent to any heating appliance.
The likelihood of wall staining from convected air currents will be
increased in environments where high levels of tobacco smokeorother
contaminants exist.
If the igniter fails at any time or there is a power cut,it is
possible tolight the pilot with a match or taper.
Cavendlsh Models - Lift away the controls access door and
fender assembly away from the appliance.The pilot is visible
at the lower right hand side through the coals. Push the
control lever down as far as possible to the ignition position
(*), apply a match to the pilot and once lit hold down for
twenty seconds.
Kingston & Belgravia Models - The pilot is visible through
the right hand part of the fender.It is necessary to apply a
suitablelightthrough the fender. A wooden spill is
recommended for this purpose.DO NOT USE a waxtaper or
paper as they may lead to blockage ofthe pilot assembly. Push
the controllever down as far as possible to the ignition position
(*), apply the light to the pilot and once lit hold down for twenty
seconds.

1.0 Warnings
1. The appliance is suitable for installation only in
G.B. and I.E.and shouldbe installed in accordance
with the rules inforce. For Ireland install in
accordance with I.S.813 "INSTALLATIONOFGAS
ApPUANCES".The installation must be carriedout
by a CORGI Registered Installer or other
competent person and be in accordance with the
relevant requirements of GASSAFETY(Installation
and Use) REGULATIONS1994 (as amended), the
BUILDINGREGULATIONSissued by the Department of
the Environment, BUILDINGSTANDARDS(Scotland)
(Consolidation) REGULATIONSissued by the Scottish
DevelopmentDepartment and the LOCALBUILDING
REGULATIONS.Where no specific instructions are
given,reference should be made to the relevant
BRITISH STANDARD CODES OF PRACTICE
and INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS.
2.This appliance must be installed in accordance
with the manufacturers Instructions and the rules
In force and only used in a suitably ventilated
location.
3. Read the instructions before installing or using
this appliance.
4.The chimney should be swept before the
appliance is installed and checked annually to
ensure continued clearance of combustion
products and that there is no excessive build up of
soot.
5.Soot and debris from the chimney or other
sources shouldperiodically require removal by a
competent person.
6.Any purpose provided ventilation should be
checked periodically to ensure that it is free from
obstruction.
7.Ensure that all protective plastic coating is
removed from trim and fender parts.
Important - Do notpush excess electrical
cable into void behind the fender.
If a gas leak is found or suspected,turn off the gas
supply atthe meter immediately and contact your
Installeror British Gas Emergency (under 'Gas' in the
phone directory).
This appliance hasa naked flame and a fireguard
conforming to B.S.6539 or 6778 should be used,
especially in instances where young children,the
elderly or infirm are likely to be present.
Never Hang Flammable Items Over
The Appliance
For reasons ofsafety and economy your appliance
should be serviced annually.Your Installer or British
Gas Servicewill be able to advise you.

Thermostatic Control of High Rate
The HIGH rate setting is thermostatically
controlled. The temperature at which the
thermostat operates can be altered by means
of the control knob situated behind the
controls access door. This is variable between
WARM and HOT.If the control knob is set on
HOT the fire will run on HIGH rate almost
continually. With the control knob on WARM
the HIGH rate willoperate intermitently, the
fire dropping to MEDIUM rate when the
thermostatis satisfied. The control knob can
be setanywhere between these positions,
depending on size of room, other heating
sources,personal preferences etc.
2.0 Introduction
EIII Introduction
1. Your BaxiCavendish Deluxe,Kingston Deluxe
or Belgravia Deluxe are live fuel effect inset gas
fires.The realistic coal effect is achieved by the
use of a multi-piece fuel bed and specially
designed gas burner rail.
~ Operating the Unit (Fig.1)
1.The fire is controlled by a lever which is
positioned at the top right of the trim.The lever
has five positions:

Position * ; IGNITION/PILOT
The High settingis thermostatically controlled.
2.To light the fire from the OFF position (e) push
the control lever down as far as possible to the
IGNITION/PILOT position (*) and the pilot should
light.If not,repeat the operation.
3.Once the pilot is alight continue to hold the
controllever down for twenty seconds.
4.Release the control lever.It will go to the
LOW/SUMMER rate position.To obtainMEDIUM
and HIGH gas rates,move the control lever
upwards to the appropriate position.Moving the
control lever to the uppermostposition will
extinguish the fire.
5. The light effect is controlled by a master switch
behind the controls access door. With the master
switchin the ON position the lighteffect will
operatein the LOW/SUMMER position and
IGNITION/PILOT position.
6.To illuminat the light effect without the fire in
operation move the control lever from OFF to the
LOW/SUMMER position,with the master switch
ON.
NOTE: If the fire goes out at any time wait 2
minutes and repeat the ignition procedure.
7.To turn the fire off:Pull the controllever up as
far as possible to the OFF position (e).
NOTE: When your Cavendish,Kingston or
Belgravia is firstusedit is possiblesome smells
may be emitted. These smells willquickly clear
with use.
EIII Cleaning the Fire
1.The firemaybe cleaned with a damp cloth and
wiped witha soft duster.Do not use metal polish
on any parts ofthe appliance.It is not advisable to
use a vacuum cleaner attatchment to clean the top
of the coalbed as the material is fragile and easily
damaged.
e. Shelf
1.A shelf maybe fitted above the fire providing it
isminimum height from the hearth of830mm
(3221/32in)and does not project more than 150mm
(529/32in).When the shelf depth is increased in
increments of 13mm ('/2in) over the 150mm
(529/32in)the heightshould be increased by 25mm
(1in) for every13mm ('/2in).

3.0 Arranging the Coals
It is important that all the coals are used and
arranged as shown in order to achieve the
desired flame picture. All the coals are
marked by letter on their undersides. It is
recommended that all the coals are identified
prior to installation.
1.It may be necessaryto remove some or all of
the coals to retouch or clean them at some time.
Cleaning must onlybe done using a very soft
brush.The coalsmay be retouched with Baxi
coal bed stain available direct from Baxi heating
or from your localBaxi Spares Stockist.Quote
Part N°043224 whenordering.
CAUTION: Thecoals are extremely fragile
and must be handled accordingly.To avoid
soiling ones hands,gloves should be worn
and any inhalationof the dust should be
avoided.Keep thecoals away from children
at all times.Neveruse coals other than those
supplied or GenuineBaxi Spare Parts. Never
put additional coals on the fire.

3.0 Arranging the Coals
1.The following procedure assumes all the coals
and front and rear supports are to be fitted.If not
all the coals require replacement, refer to the
diagrams and determine at which point you need
to commence.
2.The side cheeks should be fitted between the
burner chassis assembly and the rear light
shield, their contoured faces innermost (Fig.2).
3. Locate the rear coal support behind the two
tabs on the combustion box rear panel.The
ridged part of the support must be to the front
and uppermost (Fig. 3).
4.Place the front coal support on the controls
mounting frame between the forward flange and
rear tabs.The convex face of the support must
be to the front and the location pegs uppermost
(Fig.4).
5.Place the flat face of coal C on the front
support with the two projections to the rearand
resting on the rear support (Fig. 5).
6. Coal D should be put to the left of coal C with
it's flat face downwards onto the frontsupport
and the short projection to the rear (Fig. 6).
7.The flat face of coal E should be located on
the right extreme right hand peg of the front
support. The taller part of coal E should be to the
left (Fig. 7).
8.Take coal F and insert it between the rear
facing projections of coal D and the rear support.
The wider part of the coal goes to the rear
(Fig. 8).
9.The narrow rounded end of coalG fits intothe
like-shaped recess in coal E with the other end
resting on the rear support, it's flat face
downwards (Fig.9).

10.Coal H should be placed lengthways across
coals F and C, and against the rear support.Its
contoured face should be tothe front (Fig.10).
11.Coal I should be placed lengthways across
coals G and C,and against the rear support.Its
contoured face should be to the front (Fig.11).

12.Take coal J and insert it between the
rearward facing projections of coal C.its narrow
end forwards (Fig.12).

13. Place coal K on the left hand side of coal D
and against the left hand side cheek.The
contoured faces of the coal should be uppermost
and facing inwards to the other coals (Fig.13).
14.Place coal L on the right hand side of coal E
and against the right hand side cheek. The
contoured faces of the coal should be uppermost
and facing inwards to the other coals (Fig. 14).

15. Locate the cut-out in the underside of coal M
on the rear support.It should also rest oncoal I
(Fig.15).
16.Locate the cut-out inthe underside ofcoal N
on the rear support.Itshould also rest on coal H
(Fig.16).

17.The upper surfaces of coals M and N should
form a "V"shaped recess.
18. Finally,take coal 0 and place it's convex
face forwards across coals M and N (Fig.17).
19.Ensure that the completed coal bed is as
shown in the photograph below.

4.0 Spares .
1. Ensure that the fire is cold and that the
electrical supply is isolated.
2. Carefully remove all the coals except the two
sidecheeks and place them on a newspaper or
similar to prevent soiling furnishings.
4. Remove the bulb and replace with the new one.
Replace the reflector panel.
1. The unit is the responsibility of the installer for
the first twelve months, after which time if spare
parts are required they can be obtained through
approved Baxi stockists or local gas region.
2. Appliance information may be found on the
Data Badge which is situated inside the fire on the
lower right hand side.It is necessary to remove
the fire trim.

designed and produced to meet all the relevant
Standards.
2.BaxiHeating provide a 12 month guarantee
on the fire.The guarantee operates from the
date installation is completed for the customer
who is the original user.
3.To maximise thebenefit from our guarantee
we urge you to return thereply-paid guarantee
registration.
4. This does not in any way prejudice your rights
at Common Law.Such rights between the
customer and the installer or supplier from whom
the unit was purchased remain intact.
Any componentor part which becomes
defective during the guarantee period as a
result of faulty workmanship or material
whilst in normal use will be repaired or
replaced free of charge.
