Infecon control plays an important role in the medical device industry, but now
more than ever, we must take extra precauon to ensure the safety of healthcare
professionals and paents alike when performing CO breath tests.
This guide has been put together to help you safely resume CO monitoring.

Aach the regulator to the ToxCO® monitor
If it’s been a while since you’ve used your
ToxCO®, please check the baeries have charge.
Replace them if necessary
As roune maintenance, a bump test should always be performed aer
long periods of no use to check the device is reading correctly. You can
perform a bump test using either a non-smoker or cered gas to ensure
the device is reading correctly.
Once the countdown has nished and the screen prompts
to exhale, open the gas regulator to perform the bump test
Start the breath test on the ToxCO® monitor
Once the reading has stabilised on screen
close the regulator to turn o the gas
Make sure the ToxCO® monitor is reading
between 15 and 22 ppm
If the ToxCO® is not reading between this range,
please calibrate the monitor
To perform a bump test using gas, rstly aach the gas canister
to the gas regulator by screwing the canister into the regulator
How to perform a bump test with veried gas:
As prompted, aach the regulator to the
ToxCO® monitor and follow the onscreen
instrucons to run the calibraon
Open the gas regulator
to perform the test
Close the regulator when the calibraon is nished
To perform a calibraon test, rstly turn on the ToxCO® monitor Press the sengs icon to open the sengs menu
Press the cylinder calibraon icon to proceed Allow the ToxCO® monitor to zero. If the monitor is too cold or hot
please wait for it to come to ambient temperature before connuing
If the the ToxCO® failed its calibraon a red cross will show,
press the retry icon to try again. If unsuccessful consult the troubleshoong
secon of the manual or contact your local distributor for help
If the ToxCO® successfully completed its calibraon a
green ck will show.

A new SteriBreath™ mouthpiece should be
used for each paent. It is best pracce for
the paent to insert their own mouthpiece
Follow the instrucons
on the ToxCO® to complete
a breath test
The paent will be
prompted to inhale and
hold their breath
There will be a 15 second
countdown
The paent will be prompted to exhale
slowly into the monitor, and should aim
to completely empty their lungs
The results will rise and stabilise
onscreen
Allow the paent to throw away their
used mouthpiece
Results can be interpreted using the

Assemble the sampling system by inserng the
D-piece™ lter into the ToxCO®, then the sampling
system and nally the face mask. A new face mask
sampling system should be used for each paent.
Follow the instrucons
on the ToxCO® to complete
a breath test
Prompt the paent to inhale
and exhale into the face mask
Sampling will last 60 seconds as the
%COHb/ppm levels rise and hold.
The result will be shown onscreen.
Allow the paent to throw away their
used mouthpiece
Results can be interpreted using the
face mask test interpretaon chart
