Introduction
Description
Abellissimo video doorentrysystemconsistsofadoorpanel,positionedatthe
entranceofabuilding,avideo telephone (videophone),placed inside ofthe building
forthe convenienceofthe occupantand apowersupplyand controllerwhichare
usuallylocatedinsidean electricalcupboard.The doorpanelcomprisesofatwo-
wayspeechunit, acameraand apushbutton –whichmust be depressed byavisitor
toinitiateacall.The videophone,whichringsinresponse,allowsatwo-way
conversationviaahandsetwhilstthe callercan be observed through theintegral
display. The operatorcan selectivelyallowvisitorsaccess tothe building bypressing
abutton on thevideophone and soelectricallyreleasing the door.
The bellissimo 1-wayVideoDoorEntrySystemissuitableforanybuildingrequiringa
singlepushbuttonatthe entrance,suchashouses,individualflatsand offices.For
multi-waysystemspleasereferto“bellissimo 2-72-wayVideoEntrySystem”manual.
The bellissimo “1-way”systemissuppliedwithadedicateddoorcontroller,whichhas
been specificallyoptimised for“1-way”systems,ensuring simpleinstallation.This
basicsystemcan supportup to3extension videophones(morewithadditional
PSU’s),whilstmultipleentrancescan be supported withthe addition ofone panel
and one controllerforeachdoor.

BasicSystem Operation
Call sequence
Whenthepushbuttonispressedatthe entrancepanelitcausesthe videophone to
ringand the amber call lamptoflash.Thevideophonewillcontinue toring forup to
30 secondsoruntilthe residentrespondsbypicking upthe handset. Atthistimethe
residentcanfreelyconversewiththevisitorwhoseimage isnowdisplayedon the
videophone;atthe sametimethe green doorlampwill flashtohighlightthe lock
button.
The callmaybe terminated byreplacing thehandsetormoreusuallybypressing the
lock button toallowthe visitoraccess throughthe entrance;the speechand picture
willpersistforafurther3secondswhilethe doorisbeingreleased.
Silentviewing
When the videophone isringing the resident can press the viewbutton first instead of
lifting up thehandset; thiswillstop thevideophone ringing and enablethemtoview
the visitorforup to60 secondsoruntiltheypress the lock button toreleasethe door.
Silentviewing can be ‘normalised’atanytimebypicking up the handsetand
conversing withthe visitorasdescribed above.
AutoDisplay
When ‘AutoDisplay’mode isselected the picturewillcomeon whilethe videophone
isringing,otherwisethe picturewillonlycomeon when the callisanswered.Auto
Displaymode isusuallypre-selectedatinstallation andgenerallyonlyone
videophonewillbesetinthismode (see ‘ExtensionVideophones’below).
Call Mute
The residentcan mutethe ringing sound inthevideophone when theydo notwishto
be disturbed.Callmuteisactivated bypressing the mute button on the videophone,
whichthen illuminatesinredasareminder.The handset must be on the hookforthis
towork.Pressing the mutebutton asecondtimewilldisengage the mute.During
installation itispossibletoset atimelimit forthe mutefunction invariousvaluesfrom
2minutesup to10hours.When thistimeperiod haselapsed themutewill
automaticallydisengage. (See ‘mutetimer’, page 15).
The mutefeaturecanbesetduringinstallationtoone oftwomodes(ordisabled
altogether):-
RingerMute onlystopsthe audiblering,butthe amberlightwillstillflashand
allotherfunctionsworknormally.Ringermutewillcontinueforthe presettime
even ifacallisanswered.Pressingthemutebutton againwhilethe
videophoneisidlewillcancelmute.
Full Mute preventsthe videophone bothfromringingorflashingtheamber
call lamp.Pressing the mutebutton againorlifting thehandsetwillcancelfull
mute.
DoorStatusIndication
The green door lampon the videophonewillilluminatetowarnthe residentthata
doorhasbeenleft open followingacall.Thisfeaturerequiresadoormonitorcontact
tobe fitted.

Call Privacy
Onceacallhasbeenanswered byone videophone no othervideophonesmayjoin
in,vieworlisten tothe call.If anothervideophoneshandsetispicked up the
videophonewillnotactivate;pressing the viewbutton on anothervideophone willbe
ignored.
UserActivation(CCTVMode)
Whilethe systemisidle, pressing the viewbutton willactivatethe systemand display
the pictureattheentrancepanel.Onceactivated,lifting the handsetwillenable
speechattheentranceand the lock button maynowbe used toreleasethe dooror
the usercan hang-up. Thepicturewillswitchoff afterthe preset talk-time.
Secondcamera
The DoorControllerhasthe capabilityofdriving asecond ‘thirdparty’‘CCTV’
camera,whichislocated nearby,andoffering adifferentviewpoint.Pressingthe
‘View/Camera’buttonwill alternatetheviewbetween theprimaryandsecondary
camera(if enabled).
ExtensionVideophones
Additionalvideophonesmaybe added tothe basicsystem.The numberof
extensionsislimited onlybypowersupplyconsiderations.Allvideophoneswill ring
when called howevertypicallyonlythe Masterunitwilldisplayapicturewhileringing.
Oncethe masterorextension videophone is‘picked-up’the picturewilldisplayon
that unit alone.
It shouldbenotedthatwhen the Masterunitisleft off-hook,extension videophones
willnotring; theredlight willflashonthe Masterasawarning of thiscondition.
Lock TypeandOperation
The doorcontrollersupportsbothfail-secureandfail-safelocksincludingmagnetic
locks ofup to1Arating.The lock outputisprovided byrelaycontacts,whichinthe
event of powerfailureareopen.
Onpressingthe lockbuttonthelock timerwillstartand the doorwillunlock.The
picture(and speechifactive)will persistforthefirst3secondsof lockoperation.For
Lock Timesettingssee page12.
ExitButtonandFireSwitch
Aninputisprovided foranexitbutton,whichcan beinstalled on theinside ofthe
doorandallowresidentstoexitfreely.Momentaryoperation ofthisbutton will
operatethelock releaseforthe programmed lock time.AFireswitchorother
override devicemayusethe sameinputtoholdthe dooropen indefinitely.
Trades Facility
Useofatimeclock inconjunctionwithatradesbutton willallowfree access during
the programmed time.

The bellissimo One-waySystemallowsmultipleentrancestobe catered forbythe
addition ofone doorcontrollerand one entrancepanelforeachentranceand in
someinstancesadditionalpowersupplies.Inamultipleentrancesysteman optional
featureallowsthe residenttoviewthe camerasatallthe entranceswithsuccessive
pressesofthe ‘cameraselect’button.

Entrance Panel
Carefulconsideration shouldbe given tothelocation oftheentrancepaneltoensure
the best possiblelighting conditionsforthe camera. Ingeneralstrongback lighting of
the subject(bythe sun and sky)shouldbe avoided,asthe contrastbetween
foreground and background maybe too greatforthe camera.The fieldofview
shouldcontainaslittleofthe sky aspossible,particularlyifsouthfacing.If abacklit
situation isunavoidable,additionallighting maybe necessarytoilluminatethe caller
and avoidadarkoutline image (silhouette).
DoorController
The doorcontrollerandPSUshouldbe wall-mounted inaconvenientcupboardor
otherprotected environmentwithavailablemainspower.Cablelengthtothe
entranceshouldbe less than 50m.The doorcontrollerforthe second and
subsequententrancesmaybe situated inthe samelocation,ortomeetthe 50m
requirementmaybe situatedinanotherlocation.Powersuppliesmaybe shared
between doorcontrollersplaced inthe samelocation,butcontrollersinseparate
locationsshouldbe separatelypowered.

Wiring
RefertoDiagramBforsingleentrancesystemsand DiagramDformulti-entrances.
Allwiring iscarried outusing amixtureofCAT5forthesignalwiringand 1mm²(or
greater) coresforthe powerwiring;refertoPage 8forfurtherdetails.Itisstrongly
recommended thataconsistentcolourcode be used throughoutsuchasthat
indicated ontheconnectiondiagram.Certainsignalsmustbe interconnectedusinga
twisted pairfromthe CAT5cable.Theseareclearlymarked ontheconnection
diagramand shouldbe strictlyobserved.
Entrance Panel
The panelshouldbe mounted atan optimumheightof1.6m,measured between the
ground and thecentreofthe camerawindow.Withflushmounting panelsitis
advisabletoapplymastictothe top edge ofthe paneltopreventwateringress
behind the panel.Onconstruction sitesthe panelmustbe protected fromcorrosive
substancessuchas‘brick acid’.The panelshouldbecleanedonlywithadampcloth
containing dilutedetergent.
Videophone
The Videophone isdesigned tobe wallmounted ontoplasterboardorothermasonry
atan optimumheightof1.6m.It shouldbefixed withthree No8screws(not
supplied).Usethetemplateincludedwiththe videophonetomarkoutthedrilling
positions, and drillthe three holesand insert the appropriatewallplugs. If thecableis
tobe feedfromthe wallcavitythenmakeaholeforthisatthesametime.Fitthetop
twoscrewsbutdo notfullytighten.Nowremovethe top coverofthe videophone,
whichissecured byclipsatbothsides.If top orbottomcableentriesarerequired,
carefulremovethe appropriatecutoutwithside snipstaking carenottodamage any
internalcomponents.Hang the videophone onthe twoscrewsalreadyfitted allowing
the cable(ifpresent)tofeedthrough andthe thirdscrewtobeinserted atthebottom.
Tightenallthree screws.Beforereplacing theFrontCoverremovethe protectivefilm
fromthe displaylensand alsocheck thatthe DipSwitchsettingsarecorrector
change asnecessary(seePage 15).
ElectricDoorRelease
Bothfail-secureand fail-safelock releases(inc.magneticlocks)usethe same
terminals.Tosetthelock type,refertothe “DoorControllerSwitch”settings.When
installing lock releasespleaseallowalittlemovementon the door,asoperation will
be impaired if fittedtoo tight.
NB.Magneticlocks (maglocks)mustbefitted withasuppressoratthe lock
terminals.Somemanufacturersfit an acceptableinternalsuppressor.
ExitButtonInput
Thisinputisforanormallyopenpushbutton.‘Exit+’isthe inputand ‘Exit–’is
internallyconnected to0V.
DoorOpenSwitch
Thisswitchcan haveclosed contactswhen the doorisopen oropen contactswhen
the doorisopen.DipSW2-5setsthe choice.The defaultof‘contactsclosed when
dooropen’must be selected when thisfeatureisnot required.

The participating entrancesmusteachbe designated withaunique address 1,2,3,
…etcintherequired viewing sequence.NBthe sequencemuststartwith1;the
maximumis16.If Camera2isenabledonanyentrancethen itwilladoptthe
entranceaddress settingplus1;the next entrancemust skipthataddress.
Eachcontrollermustalsorecordthe lastcameranumberinthe sequence–thiswill
be the samesettingforallentrances.
