Wood displaysdifferent grain patternsdependingon which way theyarecut -for example,the'medullaryray' which
can appearon oakfurnitureis amarkofgood qualitytimber-thesearejust characteristicsofthenaturalbeautyof
thewood.
Somefurnitureis also deliberatelyaged and rustic.
Wood veneers also allow distinctivepatternstobecreated on somesurfaces, such astabletopsand drawer
frontsbytheway slivers arearranged.
All timberand veneersurfaceswill changecolourand mellow overtime.Newfurniturewill initiallyvaryin shade
fromitemsthat havebeen previouslypurchased.
How tocarefor yourwoodfurniture
Dust with aclean,damp,lint free cloth.Frequent dustingwill removeabrasivebuild up,which can damagethe
finish overtime.
Donot useaverywet cloth or allow anyliquid tocontact with theveneers for alongperiod oftimeasthis can
permanentlydamagethesurface.Wipeup spills immediately.
Donot useanyabrasivecleaneror harsh detergent asthis can damagethesurfaceofthefurniture.
Spray polishesarebest avoided astheycontain siliconeswhich may spoil thefurniture'ssurfacewhen buildingup
overtime.
Make sureall surfacesareprotected fromheat and liquidsbymatsand coasters.
Ensurethat amat or pad is placed underpaperwhenyou arewritingon thefurnituresurface.
Donot placerubber, cork,vinylor plasticmaterials on thewood finish aschemicals within may react with thefinish
ifleft in contact for an extended period oftime.
Ourfurniturewill enduremost temperaturesin thehomebut it is best toavoid placingfurniturenext toheat
sourcessuch asradiators or fires. Beparticularlycarefulwith solid wood asthelackofhumiditycaused byhome
heatingcan causedamagesuch aswarping,crackingor splitting.
Excessiveexposuretosunlight can causefadingofyourfurniture.
Avoid exposingyourfurnituretoanyliquids. All liquidsshould bewiped up immediatelywith asoft,slightlydamp
cloth in thedirection ofthewood grain.If stickyliquid residuesdooccur, theymay beremoved with adilutesolution
ofwarmsoapywaterfollowed byaclean,damp sponge.Theareashouldthen bewiped immediatelyin thedirection
ofthewood grain with aclean,soft whitecloth until completelydry.
Nail polish remover, hairspray,perfume,potpourri &anyotherproductsthat containssolventscan damagewood
upholsteryfinishes.
Upholsteredfurniture
Theupholsteryshould not beexposed for longperiodstodirect sunlight asthis may causefadingand
deterioration ofcovermaterial. Protect fromexposuretosourcesofheat such asradiators or open flames.
It is recommended togivetheupholsteryafrequent vacuumingor light brushing.
It is veryimportant torub verygentlytoavoid colourchange.This propercleaningwill prevent buildup ofdust,
soil and oils which can bedamagingtocovermaterial. In theevent ofspillageit is imperativetoact quickly.
Carefullysoakup anyexcess liquid,ideallyusingtheedgeofawhitepapertowel, then dab gentlywith afresh
toweltakingcaretoavoid soakingin or spreadingoftheremainingliquid.
