1. Turn on the computer and make sure it is not in standby/hibernation mode.
2. Plug the Receiver into the computer using the provided USB cord and make
sure the LED light on the receiver is on.
3. Turn on the Head Tracker by sliding the switch on the side towards the LED.
You may need to use a small thin object to flip the switch.
4. Run Bertec Balance Advantage from the shortcut on the desktop. To log in,
select an operator name, type in the password, and select Login.
5. Verify that the Head Tracker is detected by the software:
>The LED indicator on the Head Tracker should be blinking rapidly.
>The Battery Level in the top right of the screen should be visible.
6. Place the Head Tracker in the headband with the LED on top and facing out.
7. Put the headband on the patient’s head with the Head Tracker centered on the forehead.
Note: The minimum recommended battery level for testing is 25%.

Setting Up an Assessment
1. Connect all devices according to the Pairing Procedure (see section below).
2. Select the patient’s name from the list on the left side of the screen. For new patients, select ‘New Patient’ on the left
and ‘Create New Patient’. Fill the required fields (marked with yellow boxes). After completing the patient profile,
select ‘Save Changes’.
3. Select the Assessments tab on the top of the page.
4. Find the Head Shake SOT icon (shown below). Drag and drop the icon into the Test Series queue.
Note: the icon will not be visible unless the Head Tracker is recognized by the software.
5. Select ‘Start the Test Series’

1. Before starting, assist the patient with putting the Head Tracker on so that it is centered on their forehead.
2. Ask the patient to stand on the balance plate and look forward while wearing the Head Tracker.
Complete the four conditions listed below (with three trials of each) to allow the program to calculate the patient’s
Equilibrium Score Ratio.
Four Conditions for Head Shake SOT:
>Eyes Closed: Fixed Platform (no head tracker required)
>Eyes Closed: Moving Platform (no head tracker required)
>Head Shake Eyes Closed: Fixed Platform
>Head Shake Eyes Closed: Moving Platform Fixed
3. When performing the head shake conditions, make sure the patient moves their head 20 degrees left and right, switching
directions with each beat of the metronome. Then instruct them to close their eyes.
4. Once the patient’s eyes are closed and head is moving at the correct speed, begin collecting data. Use the third button on the
remote to start the trial.
Note: If SOT was already completed that day, the first two conditions will be prepopulated and will not need to be retested.

To ensure that the head tracker is properly aligned before testing, make sure the patient is looking forward when
switching conditions. To recalibrate the head tracker, instruct the patient to look forward and reselect the condition.
A properly aligned head tracker will show a scene where the blue ball is centered inside the larger circle.

Charging the Head Tracker
1. Make sure the Head Tracker is off while charging.
2. The Head Tracker should be charged using the wall charger and the USB cord provided.
>Approximate charge time is 1 to 2 hours.
>The minimum recommended charge level to perform a full assessment is no less than 25%.
Note: If you charge the Head Tracker from a USB port on the computer, close the Balance Advantage software and keep the
computer powered on and plugged in.

Pairing Head Tracker and Receiver
1. Make sure the Head Tracker is off by moving the switch away from the LED.
2. To charge the Head Tracker, plug the USB cable into a wall charger.
>If not fully charged, the light will blink blue and yellow.
3. Leave it charging until the light blinks blue and green.
4. Once charged, keep the Head Tracker plugged in and switch it to ON.
>The LED will continue to blink blue and green.
5. Open the Bertec Balance Advantage software and log in.
>The Head Tracker should now blink blue.
>If it is not working correctly, turn the Head Tracker off and back on.
6. Go to the gear icon in the top right corner on-screen. Select ‘Pair Wireless Head
Tracker’ and follow the on-screen instructions.
7. Once paired, the Head Tracker blinks blue.
8. For Head Tracker battery status in the software, check the battery icon:
>Intermediate battery displays are estimations of remaining charge.
Exiting Balance Advantage will halt communication between the Head Tracker and
Receiver. Both devices will switch to solid blue LEDs If there is a communication
issue during pairing, perform the following steps:
>Turn off and unplug the Head Tracker and Receiver from the computer
>Log out of Bertec Balance Advantage
>Restart the pairing procedure from step 1
