3. Introduction
What is the IPL PureSkin Pro?
The PureSkin Pro is a light-based device forlasting hair
removal for private use. The hair removal processbased
on light is a well-known and proven method. In 15 years of
clinical applications around the world, it has proven to be a
safe and effreduction.
Before using the

After using the
IPL PureSkin Pro
How does the light remove the hair?
Light-based hair removal is founded on the principle of
selective photothermolysis, whichses optical energy to
deactivate hair growth. To achieve such a thermal effect,

10
the hair root must selectively absorb the light energy and
convert it into heat.
This selectivity is achieved when the optical energy that is
released into the tissue is mainly absorbed by the melanin
pigment in the hair. The high-energy light is converted into
thermal energy (heat), which ultimately deactivates hair
growth. Therefore, the more melanin present in the hair (i.e.
the darker the hair), the more light can be absorbed and
the more effectively the light can work for the hair removal.
What eect does the hair growth cycle have on light-
based hair removal?
Every hair on our body goes through the three phases of the
hair growth cycle: anagen, catagen and telogen. Only hairs
that are in the anagen phase, or growth phase, respond to
treatment with IPL. Although the duration of a complete hair
growth cycle differs from person to person and depends on
the area of the body the hair is growing on, the cycle generally
lasts 18 to 24 months.
Please note that at least one complete hair growth cycle is
required in order to achieve permanent hair removal using
the Beurer IPL PureSkin Pro.

Skin types are depicted on the Fitzpatrick scale below. Darker
skin contains more melanin, which competes with melanin
in the targeted hair for energy absorption. When more light
energy is absorbed into the skin, there is a greater risk of
adverse effects and epidermis damage. This device is only
recommended for use on skin types I through IV.

5. Starting the application
1. Insert the device plug into the device and insert the mains
plug into the main socket. The indicator lamp begins to
flash green (stand-by).
2. Press the Power Button. Pressing the button will turn
the device on at energy level 1. Each press will change
the energy level in a cyclic manner, from the lower level
to the higher, and then back to the lowest, for a total of
3 different energy levels. The selected energy level is
indicated in the ‘Intensity level display’.
3. If you wish to carry out an application at a higher intensity
level, increase the intensity by repeatedly pressing the
Power Button until you have reached the desired intensity.
4. Position the light area on the skin and press the trigger
button in order to release a light pulse. Ensure that the
light area and skin contact sensor come into full contact
with the skin. A light pulse can only be released once the
skin contact sensoris in full contact with the skin. You will
see a bright flash, hear a cracking noise and may feel
a slight burning sensation and/or warmth. The device
fan switches on after the first flash. Within 1-3 seconds
(depending ont he intensity level), the device is ready for
the next pulse and the indicator lamp on the device is
continuously illuminated green.
6. Who Can Use The Device?
The device is intended for women who desire to remove
unwanted hair.
This device can be used on skin tone types 1 to 4 as
pictured in the Fitzpatrick skin chart below and on the back
cover. Do not use on dark skin such as types 5 and 6.

13
IPL PureSkin Pro works best on dark hair, which contains
more melanin. Lighter hair will respond, but typically will
require more treatment sessions. White, gray or blond
hair shows a more limited response, but some users have
noted hair reduction after multiple treatment sessions.

Benefits:
This device features a built-in skin color sensor that
continually evaluates your skin tone and allows treatment
only on suitable areas. This safety feature also disables
treatment if the skin in the treatment area is too dark or
tanned, even if your general skin type is lighter. As an extra
precaution, this device only emits a light pulse when it is in
contact with your skin.
Notes:
Response to the device hair reduction differs between
individuals depending on biological factors and how
treatment instructions are followed. Hair removal by lasers
or intense pulse light sources can cause increased hair
growth in some individuals. Based upon currently available
data, the highest risk groups for this response are females
of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and South Asian heritage
treated on the face and neck.
7. Who Should Not Use The Device
WARNING:
To prevent the possibility of serious personal injury,
do not use this device in the following instances,
since the safety of this device in these cases has not
been fully established.
•
If you are under the age of 18.
•
If you are pregnant, nursing or might be pregnant.
•
If you have skin cancer, on areas at risk of malignancy, or
if you have received radiation therapy or chemotherapy
within the past three months.
•
If you have epilepsy.
•
On damaged or broken skin or if you have a history of
herpes or psoriasis outbreaks in the treatment area.
•
If you suffer from keloid scar formation (growth of
extrascar tissue where the skin has healed after an injury).
•
If you have been taking tetracycline antibiotics and
medication with the following active ingredients within

14
the last two weeks: Retinoid acid, Retin-A, or drugs
containing Vitamin A such as Accutane.
•
If you are photosensitive or have other diseases related
to light sensitivity.
•
If you suffer from severe or decompensated metabolic
conditions such as diabetes since it may delay healing
and infection in the case of an adverse effect.
•
If you have had a skin peel or other skin resurfacing
procedure within the last eight weeks.
•
Men must not use the device.
Note
If you have undergone any aesthetic procedures or
have any uncertainty regarding potential side effects,
consult your physician before use.
8. Possible Side Effects
If used according to these instructions, side effects from
this device are rare. Any aesthetic procedure can cause
some degree of side effects, however. It is important to
understand the risks and complications that could occur
with a pulsed light hair removal system.
Please consult your physician if necessary.
Degree of Side Effects Side Effects
Minor Skin Irritation
Skin Redness
Skin Sensitivity
Rare Skin Burns
Scarring
Pigment Changes
Excessive Redness and
Swelling
Extremely Rare Infection
Bruising
•
S
kin Redness - Redness on the treated area may appear
after treatment or within 24 hours. Consult your physician
in case the redness does not disappear after 2 to 3 days.
•
S
kin Sensitivity - You may feel that skin in the treated
area is more sensitive or you may encounter dryness or
flaking of the skin.
•
S
kin Burns - Rarely, burns on the treated area can occur
following the use of the hair removal reduction system.
The burns can require a few weeks to heal and, extremely
rarely, may leave a visible scar.

15
•
S
carring - In rare cases, long-lasting scarring may occur.
Usually when scarring occurs it is in the form of a flat and
white lesion on the skin (hypotrophic). However, it can be
large and red (hypertrophic) or large and extend beyond
the margins of the injury itself (keloid). Subsequent
aesthetic treatments may be required to improve the
appearance of the scar.
•
P
igment Changes - Use of the device may cause
temporary skin hyperpigmentation (increased pigment
or brown discoloration) or hypopigmentation (whitening)
to the surrounding skin. The risk is higher for people
with darker skin tones. Usually discoloration or changes
to skin pigment are temporary and long-lasting
hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation rarely occur.
•
Excessive Redness and Swelling - Very rarely, the treated
area skin may become red and swollen. This side effect is
most common in sensitive areas of the body. Redness and
swelling should decrease after 2 to 7 days and you should
treat the area by apply ing ice. Avoid exposure to sun.
•
I
nfection - In rare cases, infection of the skin could occur
after a burn caused by the treatment.
• B
ruising - Blue-purple bruising is exceedingly rare and
could last 5 to 10 days. As bruising fades, there could
be a long-lasting rusty brown discoloration of the skin
(hyperpigmentation).
9. Use of the IPL Pure Skin Pro
1. Remove all components from the box (handheld device
and power supply).
2. Before beginning the treatment, make sure the device is
clean, dry, and intact.
3. Plug the power supply end into an electrical outlet and
the round cord end into the AC Adapter Socket.
Preparing Skin for Treatment
1. Before treatment, make sure your skin is shaved, clean,
and dry (free of any residue such as powders, creams,
makeup, antiperspirants, or deodorants).
2.
Between treatments, you can shave but do not wax or
pluck treated hair.
3.
Never use flammable liquids such as alcohol (including
perfumes, sanitizers, or other applications containing
alcohol) or acetone to clean the skin for at least one hour
before treatment.
4.
Ensure device is clean and then perform a prelimin-
ary test on a small patch of skin in the intended treat-
ment area 48 hours prior to first full use. This test will
help determine the proper energy level setting for your
skin type (see the “Preliminary Test” section below).

16
Skin Sensitivity Test
A preliminary test will determine your skin‘s reaction to the
IPL PureSkin Pro treatment and help you set the optimal
energy level for each treatment area. Perform a preliminary
test on each area you intend to treat 48 hours prior to the
full treatment.
CAUTION:
Do not treat full areas with energy levels that you have
not tested before! Do not treat the tested area for at
least 48 hours after the skin sesitivity test is completed.
1. Select an area of skin to test and place the treatment
window in full contact with the skin. Press the Power
Switch once to select Energy Level 1 and then press and
hold the Pulse Button once to emit a single pulse.
2. If you feel comfortable with the energy level, press the
Power Switch again to increase to Energy Level 2, move
the treatment window of the device to another test area
of skin and press the Pulse Button again.
3. If you still feel comfortable, you increase the Energy Level
to 3.
4. Stop the test if you do not feel comfortable, as increasing
the energy level increases the risk of adverse effects.
5. If you see adverse effects such as severe redness or
blistering, stop the test immediately.
6. Wait 48 hours and examine the tested area. If the skin in
the test area seems normal (no response or mild redness
observed), you can proceed with a full treatment in the
highest comfortable energy level. If you see excess
redness, swelling, or blistering even in the low-energy
level settings, do not treat that area.
Treating the Skin
CAUTION:
Conduct a preliminary test before performing a full
treatment. See the “Preliminary Test” section above.
1. Plug the power cord into the device; the green power
LED will flash indicating the device is in standby mode.
Press the Power Switch to turn on the device; one
green Level LED will illuminate indicating the device
is set to Energy Level 1. To increase the Energy Level,
press the Power Switch repeatedly to select Energy
Level 2 or 3.

17
2. Position the treatment window onto the desired area of
skin, making sure it makes full contact. If the treatment
window is not properly positioned, the Power LED will
briefly change to orange. If your skin tone is too dark/
tanned, the Power LED will briefly change to red. In
either case, the device will not operate.
3. Press the Pulse Button for a single pulse or press and
hold for continuous operation. After the first pulse, the
internal fan in the device may switch on.
4. When pressing the Pulse Button you will see a bright
flash, hear a popping noise, and may feel a mild
heating sensation.
5. Keep the Pulse Button pressed and move the device
to a different area after each pulse while keeping
it in contact with the skin. Continue until the entire
treatment area has been covered.
6. After treatment, shut the device off by pressing and
holding the Power Switch for three seconds; the orange
LED will illuminate while the device is in shutdown
mode, followed by blinking green which indicates the
device is in standby mode. Unplug the device after
each treatment session.
CAUTION:
•
Do not overlap pulses in the same spot. Repeated pulses
on the same spot may cause burns.
•
Do not treat the same area of skin more than once per
treatment as it may cause skin irritation.
Application methods
Treat the skin in rows, which enables you to keep track of
the areas of skin that have already been treated and helps
you to avoid overlapping the same area. The light emitter
is designed to leave a temporary impression on the treated
area of skin that you can use for precise placement of the
next pulse.
Application method 1 “Auto Flash” mode:
Hold down the Pulse Button with the skin contact sensor
in full contact with the skin. After the third light pulse, the
device will switch to “Auto Flash” mode and will emit light
pulses at regular intervals with no need to hold the Pulse
Button. Auto Flash mode is suitable for treating large areas
such as the legs.
Application method 2 “Single Flash” mode:
Press the Pulse Button and release immediately after each
pulse. Reposition the device over the next area to be treated

18
and press the Pulse Button again. Ensure that the light area
and skin contact sensor come into full contact with the
skin. This mode guarantees precise treatment, such as for
knees and ankles.
NOTE: Allow the device to cool for a few minutes if it feels
too hot for you. Continue your treatment after a short cooling
period.
Facial Treatment Method:
WARNING:
If you have undergone any other aesthetic procedures
•
Men must not use this device on the face.
•
Do not use energy level 3 on the face. Do not use the
device on the face above the cheekbones or on the eyes,
eyebrows or eyelashes, as this could result in severe
damage to the eyes. Do not use the device on mucous
membranes in the nose or throat area.
The skin on your face is very sensitive and requires special
care. Observe all warning and safety notes in these instruc-
tions for use to prevent adverse consequences. We recom-
mend first performing a treatment on your body and get to
know the device before performing facial treatment. The de-
vice can be used to treat all areas of the face below the cheek-
bones, such as the upper lip, cheeks, jaw, chin, and neck.
1. You must carry out a skin sensitivity test 48 hours befo-
re treatment. Perform the skin sensitivity test on an area
without hair, such as below the ear or on the side of the
neck, to determine the suitable energy level. Do not treat
the tested facial area for at least one week after perfor-
ming the skin sensitivity test.
2. Mark the treated area with a white eyeliner pencil. Use
the marking as an orientation line for treatment areas.
This way you can prevent overlapping treatment areas or
treating other areas of the face by mistake.
3. Use a mirror to position the device correctly on the treat
ment area.
Treating the upper lip
Position the light emitter as shown in the gray
areas in the figure at right. Trigger a pulse
in every marked zone. Avoid applying the
treatment to the nostrils and lips, as these
areas are more sensitive.
You can “fold in” your lips or press them together to make
the treatment area flatter or apply a thick layer of white
eyeliner to the lips and around the edge of the lips. The
white line ensures that the energy of the flash is reflected
and does not reach your lips, should you accidentally apply
a pulse to your lip.

19
Treating the cheeks and jaw
Position the light area of the device as shown in the figure.
At each point, trigger a pulse and move from one side of
the cheek or jaw to the other.
Treating the neck and chin
Position the light area of the device as shown in the figure.
At each point, trigger a pulse and move from one side of
the neck or chin to the other.
Facial Treatment Method:
•
